Ducks Win 8-5, Take ASU Series from Walsh's GRAND SLAM and Mercado's Relief
Great for the Ducks to take the series in Tempe. Walsh is now coming through with his bat. While starting pitching is still an issue, the bullpen has plenty of fresh arms and Oregon fights back from the early deficits. The Oregon bats are starting to come to life. Thursday's Duck Insider pointed out that between Heard (.414 BA) Boettcher (.333), Aroz (.423) and Cassella (.259) there are four solid hitting OFs that play good defense. Three home series with Cal, Arizona and Seattle are next up.

Steph by Three Over Sabrina.
NBA All-Star Weekend: Stephen Curry wins unprecedented 3-point contest against Sabrina Ionescu SPORTS.YAHOO.COM The highly anticipated competition didn't disappoint. Both are GOATs and Steph won this battle. So good for women's hoop. A bit of sunshine in a tough year for Oregon WBB.

Dante Moore Analysis by AddictedtoQuack
ATQ's Hythloday1 does a very good job of breaking down Moore's tape and exposing both the good and bad of his freshman year. Spectacular arm strength, delivery and accuracy with fixable read and progression issues that you would expect from a first year QB. CK, with all of his past offensive innovation, really didn't modify his offense enough to train Moore up and did him no favors with the gawdawful O-line UCLA fielded last year. As a former QB, Stein will tweak the offensive scheme for Gabriel this year and as needed in 2025 for Moore's skill set. Not discounting Novosad out of hand, Moore has to win the job first. Looking at the ATQ film study though, Moore is mechanically the far superior talent and the right system, elite O-line and skill players around him will make Oregon the best B1G offense in 2025.

Pritchard Explodes For 28
I respectfully disagree and just say to give it time. PP had great talent surrounding him on that Final Four team: Brooks, Bell, Dorsey, Ennis and Boucher. As a freshman he didn't need to score much, just learn to be a floor general at the point and run Altman's offense. Brooks was the 'assassin' on that team and Bell the inside enforcer. It wasn't all on Pritchard's shoulders to carry the team like he did as a junior and senior. Shelstad is in a trial by fire situation with this Duck team and aside from Cousinard and Dante, doesn't have the weapons PP had. If Evans and Bittle return and stay healthy, if Altman can fill in the big man gap when Dante departs and if two or three other shooters can be found via the portal or developed internally, JS will be able to refine his own game. Aside from the Steph Currys of the world, PGs usually don't lead their teams in scoring and I don't expect JS to. Their job is to be a big enough scoring threat to keep defenses honest and allow the offense to flow through them. PP managed to be a big scorer his last two years at Oregon in large part because he had to while still distributing the ball to others. I have been very impressed by the flashes of great play that Shelstad has exhibited at such an early stage. He has all the tools and should develop just fine. I anticipate a big year two leap in production.

ESPN Thoughts On the 12 Team Playoff
Like Arte Johnson used to say on Laugh In, "verrry interesting". Georgia would be sponsored by the Falcons. Fans would get the added bonus of having the Falcons actually play the Bulldogs in the preseason. Given how the Dirty Birds have been the last several seasons, Vegas would have the Dawgs by a FG.

Would TV Execs WORK with Taylor Swift...for Ratings?
Like most old boomers, I am '"who cares" neutral on the Swift-Kelce issue. Marilyn Monroe-Joe DiMaggio for the social media age. Best of luck to them but Vegas has a running book on how long the relationship will last. The NFL would be fools to not capitalize on it for the SB. Ad costs for a 30 sec spot already run at $7M a pop. Those eyeballs are guaranteed as companies are willing to unveil their best ad campaigns and pony up the bucks. The Swifties impact will be known soon after the game when viewer numbers are released. If the Chiefs pull off the win don't be surprised to see Kelce and Swift, arm in arm, looking into the camera saying "We're going to Disneyland... to buy it!"

Tasty Tidbits for Devoted Ducks...
DL and crew have taken several 'meh' or 'not too bad' players and turned them into 'my oh my'. I think that Stewart has the chance to be the next one (along with Muhammad and Savage). TexA$M has been a bit of a dumpster conflagration and I believe that Eugene is a great Oddball landing spot for Stewart.

How Much Interest Do You Have in Other Duck Sports?
Spartan2785, since you asked: My personal scale of 1-10, 10 highest. FB. 10 MBB. 8 MBaseB. 8 WBB. 7 WSoftB. 6 WVB. 5 T&Field 4 Interest in following details may go up or down based on the time of year and how the team is doing (WBB down some now, WVB was up given the season they had). Football is always a ten. Media coverage also seems to echo the above hierarchy so commentary on OBDF mirrors that narrative. And for whatever reasons, the misfortunes of the Trojenz and Fusky always seem to tug at the old heartstrings and usually warrant a thread or two. Ditto the travails of former coaches that thought the grass would be greener elsewhere, when we know the grass is damn green in Eugene. I for one am always interested in information or stimulating thought about the Ducks. Mr Fishduck has created a space where all things Quack are invited, so bring it on and let's talk it about it!

Quaaack! Washington CB Jabbar Muhammad Is a Duck
Last defensive piece to fall into place. JM is a real get and kudos to DL and Hampton/Wadood for bringing him into the flock. He did a great job controlling the Oregon WRs in the Pac-12 CG. Maybe a bit handsy and grabby, but if the zebes don't call it, it don't count as a negative. Happy he elected to not follow DeBoer to Bama or stay with Fisch. May very well be the next Oregon DB to follow Gonzo and (hopefully) Jackson to the NFL. Not much else to add on either side of the ball unless a critical player leaves or is injured after spring ball. Another safety, inside DL or a TE maybe. I'm comfortable with the roster they have now.

Cool! Jan. 24th Jabbar Muhammad Update!
Hard to make out a lot of info on the J Florence pic. It isn't dated and could have been not long after the injury or any surgical repair. Does anyone know when it was posted? There does appear to be a joint support at the knee so he is able to move it, always an essential sign for rehab. Pretty good bet though that he won't be ready for spring ball and that adding Muhammad is being figured in as an important option. All the best to JF and his recovery.

Jedd Fisch Explains if Washington is Where He Sees Himself Long-Term
I'm not a huge Harbaugh fan at the college level, but he's a good pro coach and did well with SF years ago. Probably the best prospect out there for a JH led offense.

Over a Dozen Incoming Ducks See Big-Time Ratings Adjustments in Latest Top 247 Update
It's nearly obligatory for the top ACC team to get in. I can understand no Miami, as the post season will likely find Mari-No-O clenching his jaw and mumbling "More physicality needed" to himself. But no FSU or Clemson? To quote one prominent public figure, "C'mon, man!"

Where the Ducks Ranked Among Most-Watched Football Teams in 2023
The bloom is likely off the Buff rose after their underwhelming 2023 season, as Neon is no longer the novelty he was last fall. That said, Coach Prime certainly delivered in prime time and was money for broadcasters. Since the article didn't cite the match-ups with the most viewership, here's one with the top 101. Aside from the two Duck-Fusky contests, Oregon-Colorado, the Buffs early games and UW in the CFP, the Pac-12 (R.I.P.) didn't get too many eyeballs compared to the B1G and SEC https://footballscoop.com/news/the-101-most-watched-games-of-the-2023-college-football-season It'll be interesting to see what the numbers look like for Oregon-tOSU and Oregon-Michigan this fall.

Wow, Soap Opera Results in Arizona Players Not Following Fisch to UW
The big time coaching carousel has a flip side that has become painfully (for some, like Fusky) obvious this cycle. Jilted wealthy and high profile donors aren't usually so public with their disdain, so kudos to Lopez for calling Fisch out and doing what it took to keep Fafita and TMac at Arizona. Undoubtedly there was serious NIL involved, but an element of loyalty was probably in play as well. I lived in Tucson several years ago during the Lute Olsen/Sean Elliott/Steve Kerr era. The town embraces U of A sports and much like Eugene, really celebrates when both hoops and football are good. More power to the 'Cats as they enter the B12 with so much offensive firepower intact. The assumption that a departing coach can pilfer a roster, àla Riley-Williams to U$C, will hold less weight going forward. The failure of the "what's good for me is good for thee" conceit will leave more coaches like Fisch grasping to fill a roster when their best players don't follow them to their new school. In the case of the mutts, it couldn't happen to a nicer pack of dogs.

3 Oregon Football Players Who Should Be Replaced In 2024
There is an old saying about statistics: "Figures don't lie but liars will figure" The author is very selective with the numbers and like the other posters on this thread have noted, ignores situations and the true meaning of those statistics. James did a good job in 2023. Florence missed 5-6 quarters of the UW games and can hardly be blamed for the troubles with Odunze et al. He only had one PBU because he hardly ever was the target of the opposing offense. Boetcher was a backup that played because Jacobs was not recovered from injury and filled in well against TxTech

Update: Jan. 22 News on Lock-Down Corner Transfer Jabbar Muhammad
Noted that Muhammad mentioned Wadood recruiting him but not Coach Meat. I'll bet that this move was anticipated. Sorry to see him go but hopefully existing DBs and recruits were in the know and we won't see a lot of movement of players.

Gut Punch: The Truth About Local Sports Journalists...Not What I Thought
Yeah, let's get this context right. I'm not a huge Crepea fan as I think he is a bit of a pompous know it all, but he was specifically talking about WBB, not football.

IT'S OFFICIAL...HE GONE!
Alabama called: Lanning....Nope Sark.......Nope Kiffin......Nope Norvell....Nope DeBoer...... Well, OK Tough to follow St. Nick in Tuscaloosa in spite of it being the premier CFB job. The success needle that needs to be threaded is very narrow and that fan base will be very unforgiving if big things don't happen. DeBoer is a great coach and may do well there for a couple years, but the pressure cooker/cauldron of expectations at Bama will not tolerate many 9-3 seasons. He may not be an elite recruiter but he darn well better have a few on his staff to make this a smart move for both him and the Tide. In the meantime we at OBDF can luxuriate in the turn of fortunes for our canine rivals to the north. Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Lanning Video This Morning: He is STAYING!
No equivocation at all in that video, short and direct. Lanning just raised the OBD brand a level or two by staying put. Eugene is now a destination and not a coaching layover. The only one possibly heading back to Tuscaloosa for a new job is sportscaster Kamerman at KVAL for his Bama insider sourced 'scoop' that DL was there last night.

Reports: Oregon HC Dan Lanning a 'Top Target' for Alabama HC Vacancy
Not much discussion so far about Lanning's family. I can just imagine the dinner table conversation tonight in that household. DL has made a point of saying he wants to do what is best for his family and not jerk his wife and kids to yet another destination. Everything I've heard says that his family loves it here and is not keen to pull up roots yet again. I'm guessing he will not say anything yea or nay until his wife buys in one way or the other.

Fanny-Hurt Sooners Fans Cry Foul
It's not like Oregon needed to go out of their way to offend the Sooners. Here's one reason why Arizona never tried to run it 'right up the middle' in the Alamo Bowl
