Great news. I’ve come to dread the constant churn of rumors and disdain for the PAC that many of the most prolific posters seem to share. It will be great to get back to football for the next few years.

We will never get SEC teams to play us in Oregon. The trip and playing in Autzen is just too hard for SEC teams wanting to keep their mystique in place. Come to Oregon and lose…well the SEC becomes less of a juggernaut. “You lost to Oregon?!” I am all for scheduling cupcakes. Being 11-1 with several cupcakes is seen as better than 10-2 or 9-3 after playing tough teams. More energy and fewer injuries at season’s end means a deeper run in the championship. That exposure means more than any preseason game. The negative to cupcakes is loss of national exposure and season ticket buyers upset about weak games.

Not buying a month of streaming on Peacock for one game. Watching football is going to get expensive.

In large part because winning in Autzen is tough even for good teams. Being a SEC or B1G powerhouse coming to Autzen and getting your butt kicked doesn’t play well into the carefully crafted mystique built around these teams.

Given the cesspool that is social media comments I don’t hold it against Trojan Wire that they disable comments. Without good content moderation the comment section will be nothing but hatred, bile, and mean spirited snark by people who are not nearly as smart as they think they are (but are great bullies). Ask @Charles Fischer about the work he and his moderators do to keep things civil here. if you don’t have the budget or stomach for aggressive content moderation you are better off without comments. Very few commenters have the knowledge and skill to say anything useful. Reading through the hate and contempt filled comments to find the 1 in 100 insightful comment is something I and most people can do without.

No one except for a few higher ups in the PAC and bidders know for certain what is happening. What I do know is if folks are optimists or pessimists since the uncertainty allows us to project our base personality on the situation. I also know that the B1G announcing a deal that isn’t finalized is considered a major mistake. Already the deal which was supposed to be in the mid-70s is down in the mid-60s and has the potential of dropping further. I also know I don’t trust the noise, mostly generated by people and organizations (including one or more conferences) who wish to destroy the PAC. Canzano and Wilner for all their flaws and limitations are not in the group of PAC haters, so I give them more credence. We will know relatively soon. I hope we stay in the PAC. Having to move to a conference which has been actively working to harm the PAC and reduce the money Oregon will receive does not inspire me about Oregon’s future if that scenario plays out.

Well, either the PAC leadership is lying to us with its recent positive statements or this is another example of the outside attempts to destroy the PAC. I’ll bet on the later.

Pretty hard to cover anything well with such a small, inexperienced (cheap) staff. Good journalism is hard and takes skill, experience, staffing, and time. The private equity model of business was clearly a scam whose only "benefit" was to make a handful of people richer while making the rest of us poorer.

Well, when a coach can "fire" 90% percent of his "student athletes" and shove them out the door, then maybe schools and coaches are already treating players as employees. If schools move to conferences that pay more without consulting or considering the needs of their players then maybe the schools are treating their players as employees. Every time fans says their school needs to chase sports money then maybe they are treating college sports as a business (with players working for teams, e.g, employees). If schools and fans prioritize money then they are saying players are employees. Don't blame the players. College sports increasingly act as a business.

Our current OOC schedule was done years ago in an environment where two losses meant you don’t make the four team national championship field. Since no one has gotten through the current PAC-12 conference lineup without a loss, a strong non-conference schedule likely meant not being in contention for the national championship most of the year. NOW (next year, really) it makes more sense to schedule a blue blood in non-conference play since you can still win the conference and get in with two (or more) losses. Mullen has done what many of thought he should do in the current environment and given us a non-conference schedule we can sweep.
