Stanford's Upgraded Offense: 'The Slow Mesh RPO' ?
Mic replied to DazeNconfused's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I know you aren't asking me but I will tell you that I saw a longer, more extensive video (concentrating on the extreme effectiveness on Wake's running game) on some sports program recently, highlighting Wake's wins so far. I wish I had the link for you but I can tell you that Defensive Coordinators all across the country are gaining a vivid awareness of it right now as we converse. I don't think it's entirely new ... just new to these times, with certain interesting wrinkles. God bless Wake Forest for it! It's why watching collegiate football is so darned fun and exciting. The NFL has been the same-old-same-old for so many years (just a matter of putting the right puzzle pieces together, ie players) that it's gotten boring for me. Collegiate football is where the real experimentation takes place and if it works, the Pros figure out how to make it work in their league. -
To the 1st point: yes, but only as it pertains to the performance of the Offense - his dedicated specialty (as opposed to turning an entire program around). And to the 2nd point: Bingo! Of course, I'm assuming he wants to go to the NFL. KD strikes me as the Chip Kelly 'type' in that he has ideas on how to revolutionize Offenses, move them forward, so to speak. I think (hope!) this is his sole dedication right now as he has been given a absolute plum of a job at a school that wants, takes pride in and screams for wide-open offense. Again Debbieduck, this is just my own opinion and who can really know what goes on in the minds of others?

Stanford's Upgraded Offense: 'The Slow Mesh RPO' ?
Mic replied to DazeNconfused's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I watched an even better video showing more examples of the QB & RB 'meshing together' for several seconds before the handoff allowing the RB to "wait and see" where the opening(s) are in the line. It was working with alarming frequency. The answer to this, imo, is a solid pass rush with the LB's filling the gaps. The problem for Oregon is that they haven't had a solid pass rush like they've needed. Not without the LB's rushing and thereby finding themselves possibly out of position. Maybe a guy like Dan Lanning can figure it out. He & Lupoi together. -
Lanning Calls Washington State Win “DNA Trait Game”
Mic replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm left to ponder: is USC really this good (in their backfield) or is there trouble brewing in Corvallis at the OB position. I know they're solid on their QB, but... 4 ints in one game? -
To gain experience and fill his resume', perhaps for a gig in the NFL as a QB's coach or O.C. I admit ASU would be very tempting, esp. since he's an alumni, but the program is in near free-fall right now. He may well want it - but maybe smart enough to know now isn't the right time. Just my guess. (Oh, and the pressure to win here would be nothing like the pressure to turn around a disaster at ASU).

Oregon’s Red Zone Woes Are On Dillingham
Mic replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Added to that the threat of a running QB & the RPO and you have a defense with fewer defenders loading the box. There are actual ways to "stretch" the field even inside the 10 yard line, albeit not like when on the 40. -

He did show flexibility but in-game adjustments can only go so far. The players need coaching to the new approach and practice to make it work. What most fans call "in-game adjustments" are really only "plan B's" already worked out and practiced. What I think we will see with a coach like this is an actual new approach/plan predicated on what worked against the offense and ways around it. KD seems to me the type of mind that won't be satisfied with preconceived 'Plan B's". -
10 Stats That Explain Ducks’ Season Through 4 Games

0 sacks = 72% completion rate. -
It's quite obvious to viewers that Bo Nix is getting good coaching and (just as importantly) paying attention to it. For this he deserves much credit and Duck fans should be extremely pleased - as I'm sure we are.

Oregon’s Red Zone Woes Are On Dillingham

At 32 years old, Kenny Dillingham, while maybe brilliant (offensively) is still pretty young. Experience is what he needs to round out his football acumen and that can only come one way - with time (and games). If KD's half as smart as we think he is he'll have learned something in that last game when Oregon botched it in the red zone. I expect we will see which 'adjustments' this coach has come up with this weekend. Stanford will be a stiff test down close to the goal line. -
Talk about pressure! I guess I hadn't thought all the ramification thru this far but wow. Barring serious injury/s or sudden transfer portal activity, or ???, this stable (as DnzC calls it) of QB's is gonna be scary. Scary for O's opponents and scary for DL & KD both in how they handle this much 'wealth' all at once. We'll see if it comes to pass ...

Lanning Calls Washington State Win “DNA Trait Game”
Mic replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It's only a fun thing to think about and doesn't really hold any weight - but scoring 29 pts in a single qtr., (on the road, against a 1st class team) would translate to almost 120 points per game - if they kept it up for 4 qtrs. Of course, that could never happen. But I could see the Ducks hanging one (eventually) on a ranked team just like Georgia hung it on us. -

Well Charles, if ya got have a band wagon, might as well have this one! Onward Mario !! -
That was fun! I'd sure like to hear Mike Jorgesen give us a "Quack, Quack... Quack, Quack..." too!

The Beavers have a stud in the works right now too: Jack Colletto. This guy goes two ways, seeing the ball on offense as a full back and their stud inside linebacker.

I hope you forum & Duck fans are as big a fan of 'Bucky' as I've become these last 3 games. Not since Kenyon Barner was here was a running back as much fun to watch run the ball. La'Michael James as well. This is what I personally like best about Oregon football - the breakaway run after the passing game has loosened the defense and stretched the field. Gads, he's fun to watch and this is not to take anything away from Whittington or Cardwell. I really, really hope we get to see any one of them on a long breakaway next Saturday evening under the lights at Autzen. These are special times fellow Duck fans. Enjoy them 'cause we all know what it's like when the drought season sets in - and runs get shorter in yards. I think we can thank Bo Nix for the loosening-up needed to spring those young men loose. To-The-House, Bucky!

Looking forward to the SS. This is a game Oregon should certainly win, hands down. But the Cardinal are a sneaky bunch, usually quite big and powerful along the front O & D lines. And Shaw is a cagey guy. 94-45 in 12 seasons. This guy does more with less talent than anyone else I can think of in the Pac.

Clutching Victory from the Jaws of Defeat
Mic replied to Coach Eric Boles's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This is one of those games where a case could almost be made WSU gets a ranking even in defeat. But we know that will never happen. -
Considering the competition and the fact that 2 of the 4 games were away games, these are pretty impressive all right. Add to that the fact that Oregon has yet to give up a sack. How did Georgia beat this team by 46 points?

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words...What are Your Words?
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
That's a quote he'll maybe need when things don't go so right. Oh, I don't want to sound like a 'debbie-downer' 'cause these are heady times right now. And it's all so wonderful when your team picks itself up off the turf and scores 29 points in the 4th qtr after stinking the place up for nearly 3 qtrs. This celebration is deserved. GO OREGON!
