The throw Bo made Saturday down inside the 5 traveled about 60+ yards in the air. It was a tad under-thrown but not enough to prevent it from being caught. And that's a long way to throw a football. Still no sacks given up yet. That's impressive too. After watching Lanning's interview this morning he was asked about Bo's decision not to slide when scrambling. The answer he gave convinces me Bo has the green light to do just what he did to try for 1st downs. Lanning even referenced John Elway's throwing of his body into the end zone for a game winning TD, when he was a kid. "I'm not going to tell a kid how to compete." Fair enough - But Charles, this worries guys like me because I've seen enough injuries ruin enough careers that can also affect the team's entire season to be comfortable with a QB throwing himself headlong around like that. I am probably worrying too much. And I admit Bo (by doing this) has pulled the entire team behind him and there is no longer any question who the Leader of this team is on the field.

WHEW! One soul of sanity emerges to agree. Do you suppose we're both wrong?

I know when I'm licked. Seems very few of you discerning posters here agree with my assessment that Bo may be risking too much when running the ball like he does for 1st downs. But there's one thing that I think we can all agree on: this is Bo's team now. After the last two contests the way he has Dilly's Offense humming, (along with his willingness to throw himself headlong into the fray alongside his running backs and bash heads against defenders) he's got this entire team rallied behind him right now. That I admit whole-heartedly. I don't necessarily agree with it because neither TT nor JB look ready to take this team on their backs yet should Nix go down, but ... it is what it is: Bo's Team now. GO OREGON!

Oregon/Auburn Trade. Who Got the Better Deal?
Mic replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Holy macaroni, Batman! That's a total of 35 former Ducks (by my count) playing elsewhere. One of my favs Micah Pittman just never panned out like I thought he would, even with is new team (so far) Florida St. I also forgot Henry Kattleman had transferred. -

Oregon/Auburn Trade. Who Got the Better Deal?
Mic replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Considering the fact that: 1) Ashford has at least two more years of eligibility remaining and Bo is finished after this year, and 2) Ty Thompson & Jay Butterford also have at least years remaining apiece, Then, on this front Oregon wins, narrowly. -
My dad always told me "be smart enough to know you don't know everything". I'm smart enough to know I know about as much about football as I need to make a fool of myself if I try to pretend I know more than I do. Or something like that...

George Kliavkoff Opens Up: 'UCLA Will Lose Money'
Mic replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
If Phil Knight thought it necessary he could build Oregon a cricket field. Depends on what he and others think will benefit the University. There's just enough talk going around to make us all nervous. Losing USC & UCLA wouldn't be a death blow to the Pac but if Oregon & Wash up'd stakes and left too - it very well could be. -
Yep. And though I subscribe to the theory Mario is not a very good in-game decision maker and limited in his total team vision, with the $ and clout Miami has even he won't be able to screw it all up. Miami will become a bit of a national power despite his bad decisions.

And Justin Herbert when he was hurt at the goal line and missed a good number of games. Do Duck fans think Ty Thompson or Jay Butterfield are ready to take the reins and run this new offense in his place should he get hurt? Will Oregon be as dynamic without Bo? It's funny, after the Georgia game fans were clamoring for Ty or Jay to get the start. After these last two games, fans are clamoring for Bo to do even more. Well, injuries are always a part of the game and players can get hurt on any play. Then things can change fast. Here's hoping Bo doesn't get hurt needlessly (nor anyone else) and the Oregon offensive engine continues to rev up and roar.

From the Bleachers: Kenny Dillingham’s ‘Gimme Shelter’ Offense
Mic replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I feel like I might be all alone on the forum here thinking that Bo Nix' running heroics (talking especially about the 3rd & 10 late in the 4th) might not be the 'beautiful thing' many are calling it. Yeah, it was exciting and impressive the way he fought for the 1st down (coming up just short) and yeah it was gutsy, gritty and inspiring to teammates but ... What if that hard hit he took from 2 defenders had ended in a concussion or a dis-located shoulder or knee injury? What then for the Oregon Ducks going forward? Remember, it was late in the 4th with Oregon, at that point, up by 18 pts. (three scores). Dan Lanning may have made a mistake removing Bo with nearly 4 minutes left in the 3rd qtr. necessitating Bo's return but that's precisely my point. It didn't look like our backup QB was ready to get the job done and Bo was needed to run the offense again. Some risks must be taken. Some risks should not be taken. Where's the balance? -
Well said, Debbie. Under control, for me, would include not taking unnecessary chances with his body like the one he took late in the 4th Qtr. against BYU when he attempted to get all 10 yards by himself running the ball, up 18 pts.. He took quite a hit and was lucky (imo) he wasn't seriously hurt on that play. A one-yard sneak or a four-yard dive across the down marker is one thing. That risk was entirely another.

George Kliavkoff Opens Up: 'UCLA Will Lose Money'

U could be right. But that would make me wonder why the public schools of the Big-10 would want a private "research facility" (tans: school) in their midst if the revenue gained by them isn't going to be shared somehow? In fact, a lot of things have me wondering about this whole messy deal. Gads, I hope Oregon stays out of this entanglement! -
I like your sentiments but it's a bit too early for me to form that opinion yet. Maybe after we see how they do next weekend on the road against WSU I will feel better about their chances. USC, Wash. OSU and Utah are all in the mix at this point but really, I think it too early since Pac-12 play hasn't even started yet (with one exception).

Here is How to Eliminate the Night Games FOREVER
Mic replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
How do we feel about ending these late night games? R we kidding? Because of traffic congestion our family absolutely refuses to attend night games in Autzen Stadium any longer. Getting home well after midnight is no longer an option for us, nor for a lot of our friends either. Speaking of which: isn't the next home game (just announced) one of these ridiculous night games? I think I heard it was an 8:00 pm start. That's 11:00 pm on the East Coast! Against Stanford! If streaming can change that, well ... then maybe I'll become a fan of it after all. -
George Kliavkoff Opens Up: 'UCLA Will Lose Money'

Earlier he states he "believes UCLA will lose money" when they move to the Big-..whatever they will name it. Why would they and not USC, iI wonder? -
George Kliavkoff Opens Up: 'UCLA Will Lose Money'
Mic replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
My 1st takeaway from this interview (not the last!) : • CONFIDENCE: Kliavkoff sounded confident the Pac-12 won’t lose any of the 10 remaining conference members to the Big Ten or Big 12. I mean, he sounded rock-solid certain. It dovetails with what conference athletic directors have said to me over the last couple of months, but I was still a little surprised at the level of unwavering confidence he expressed. “Listen, I think if schools would have left for the Big Ten, they would have left for the Big Ten already,” Kliavkoff said. -
Almost? Had he stayed at University a bit longer, he'd had it patented.

From the Bleachers: Kenny Dillingham’s ‘Gimme Shelter’ Offense
Mic replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Love it Charles! And who would know more about "cheap rides to heaven" then Keith Richards? -
Excellent research to flesh things out. Yeah, WSU has benefitted from a favorable schedule but any team who can travel back east and beat a Big-10 team like Wisconsin deserves respect. Yes, Pullman has often been a difficult place to play for Oregon. Wins there come with difficulty. I expect Oregon will prevail but they will need to keep up the intensity they showed Saturday because the Cougars are gonna be hyped to the max with a grudge about not being ranked. If O wins this one I think we will know Lanning's system is beginning to really work and we may see a real successful season.
-
Late in the game on a 3rd and long Nix ran for 9+ yards taking a stout hit from two Cougars simultaneously. That could easily have been a disastrous play. As it was, O went for it on 4th and got the 1st down, but go back and watch that play again. He took a very hard hit trying to reach the sticks. O was up 38-20 and later settled for the FG running the clock down. O needs the Senior at the helm until TT or JB are ready to take the reins. I don't think they are right now. Otherwise, Lanning would not have re-inserted Nix back in the game. Passing for TD's: absolutely. Running for 1st downs when the game is on the line, maybe. Trying to do it all himself, nope.
-
Nice man. Not a successful head coach for some reason I don't understand.
-
It's a difficult title, but do we really want our most experienced QB carrying the load each game? (3 scrambles for TD's last week, 2 the week before). We all remember what happened to Dennis Dixon and Justin Herbert. Losing a QB is not a fun thing, nor a good thing for the team. We've got at least 4 excellent RB's (thank's O-line!) at least 2-3 excellent TE's and several excellent WR's. Let's use them to beat heads with the enemy.

Oregon a Six-Point Favorite vs. Washington State? No!
Mic replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yes, they do. That said, they still 'deserve' a thrashing. -
Correct-o-mundo! With apologies to our Spanish speaking fans and friends.
