  1. In the 'Lanning era' we have just one road game to judge things by and we all know what happened in Atlanta. But that was Georgia. This will only be Oregon's second road game and we get another chance to see how the Ducks play on the road against another tough opponent. It's a fact that some teams travel & play better than others. The Palouse isn't a massive, intimidating arena but it is one the Ducks have struggled in before. Will Lanning have the Ducks ready to play with the same intensity they had Saturday? Will the secondary hold up under a pass-heavy offense? Will the focus be there as well as the resiliency to react quickly in a hostile environment? Under Lanning, will Oregon be just as tough to beat on the road as at home?
  2. In-game matchups, perhaps? We should see them more against WSU as Lanning & Dillingham like to spread the ball around. We have at least 2 good TE's, these 5 receivers you mention and 4 RB's. There are only so many plays in a game and with Bo running the ball, that makes 5 RB's. That's at least 12 good options to distribute the ball to. More, really.
  3. Or at least one who embraces the 'Kellesqe' philosophy of hurry-up offense after a big play, and before a big play, and anytime the ball's ready to snap unless clock burning's called for. Yeah, it's a big reason why Oregon football caught on nationwide when Kelly was here. Fans love it and it wins games.
  4. But, does Bo have the arm? Some of his worst picks have been on the deep pass where the ball was under-thrown. He has nice zip on the ball underneath and to the perimeter but downfield? I'm not so sure yet. Might it not be why Lanning & Dillingham have him throwing shorter passes and the team running the ball more?
  5. Me too. I'd be a Beaver fan if I weren't a Ducks fan first.
  6. I suppose you're right Charles. I guess from his time here at Oregon I should known better by now. I don't want to dump on MC, I think he was a pretty decent coach when he was here and we liked him ... until game day. He just didn't seem to have the broad picture of what a head coach needs to be and do to put his team in the winning column against ranked teams. His lineman's experience doesn't seem to have given him the whole picture of a complete team's performance. How Dan Lanning got it is beyond me - but he seems to have it.
  7. From Twitter (even that sewer can be entertaining once in awhile) Wyatt Gladden @wyattgladden Dan Lanning went for a 4th and 1 on his own 30 today, up 10. Mario Cristobal punted with 3 min left in a game down 8
  8. One of the rather negative tweets (I hate Twitter!) yesterday about Mario C's play calling really did underscore an apparent difference between him and our new HC Dan Lanning: Yesterday, Oregon, on 4th and 1, on their own 30, up 10, went for it (and got the 1st down). Mario, at mid-field, down 8, punted. That is something else we learned yesterday.
  9. pretty succinct ...
  10. Tough way to start the season: on the road against Georgia. Tough way to start the pac-12 season: on the road against WSU.
  11. I'm thinking, right about now after watching Georgia play three games, NO ONE is gonna beat this team, sans a few key injuries and a bolt of lightening. Maybe Alabama? Maybe Ohio State? Naw, not tOSU. Of course, matchups bing what they are, the right matchup could prove me wrong. But I get your gist. Oregon could be in for a pretty successful season. To be playing this well with 53 Freshmen and 43 Sophomores, a transfer QB and an entirely new coaching staff is pretty impressive. We'll know even more after they fly home from Spokane next weekend. Or whether BYU was over-rated or not.
  12. Actually, the entire staff seems to be working well together. Localyn seems to be of a simple frame of mind when he speaks, but that's exactly the type of teacher you want when you're teaching young men mechanics and techniques. I, for one, am the most impressed with the production out of his RB's. This guys must know what he teaching. Locklyn gets my vote.
  13. LOL. Let's hope not! Next year, maybe ...
  14. Now this isn't at all surprising. It was Mario's theme the entire time he was at Oregon. Yes, a team needs to get physical and learn to out-hit the opponent. But that's only part of the equation and maybe Mario just doesn't get the rest of the equation. From an offensive lineman's point of view, everything is directly in front of you and comes down to physicality. Maybe he didn't learn what all went on behind him to make a play work. Block left, block right, defend the passer. He's pretty good at that, esp when he had Steve Greatwood helping him teach it to his players. But that appears to be as far as his "offensive mind" works.
  15. I know it's hard to root for the Trojans and Huskies (I grit my teeth every time I do) but when they play out of conference opponents it makes all the sense in the world. The one time I can root for USC without gritting my teeth is when they play Notre Dame.
  16. Of course not. It's just his 1st season. Miami can (and likely will) be a national power again soon. Mario my need to learn that he needs a first class Offensive mind brought in and then let that "mind" recruit offensive talent. If things don't pick up in a few years, he may end up like Willie Taggert, but I doubt it.
  17. I think we all learned why Nix is the starter. And that Oregon's season, after that 49-3 debacle, isn't going to be a bust. And that there's still a lot of reason for optimism for the team going forward, but that there is still a lot of things needing fixing and a lot more talent needed to fix them.
  18. Yeah, I think everyone was puzzled to see Lanning start to sub in the 3rd QTR. Unlike last weekend, BYU was a dangerous team and just the team (ranked #12) that Oregon needed to throttle. Nix should have remained in for at least one more series of downs (and score) before sending in Thompson. But, alls well that ends well, in the end. Just glad that no players got hurt after coming back in which sometimes can happen. I guess we all know now why Nix is the starter.
  19. We had all hoped Dan and his new staff and our new players would get a sense of how special Autzen Stadium can be as a home venue for the team. It sounds like he got it. That was a great crowd yesterday and it came thru (disrespectful slurs from a few fans not-with-stnading) on Fox TV loud and clear. It's clear, the team really feeds off that crowd energy!
  20. I'd never thought this would happen in Eugene. Silly me. Why wasn't security notified? I can remember several fans being ejected from a game at Autzen a number of years ago when their drunken tirades got out of hand. Everyone around those crude fans cheered and clapped when security yanked them out. The same thing should have happened yesterday or why else is security there?
  21. Next time I'm in the Lincoln City area 'sunshine' ... great analysis guy!
  22. We won, covering the spread. So, I love 'em!
  23. Yeah, if that's supposed to br a 'green' color ... I'll eat dirt.
  24. Oregon is showing more improvement that I would have thought - this fast. BYU is a good freak'in team. Oregon is looking like ... Oregon again!
  25. 24-7 and the Half. Boy ... was I wrong... can I re-predict? You guys are so tough ...
