  1. I'm happy others with more football smarts than me think Oregon has a chance, let alone win the game. I'm thinking of just covering the spread (17+) at this point. I had no idea some think Oregon would actually upset Georgia. I guess it's a possibility. A nice one...
  2. I don't think Oregon had to "chase" Bo Nix at QB... the last statement in the article 'A Little Oregon Talk' above. Nix sought out his old coach and Oregon welcomed him because they're developing two huge talents at QB. I guess the idea is to stay near the top of the collegiate ranks without having to go thru any down years while they develop them. We'll see who gets the most starts this season: Nix, Thompson or Butterfield. It's not a case of needing Nix to be able to compete.
  3. The article above by Alan Lohner is a good one, Charles. I like his writing style, sarcasm with wit. Points made, tongue-in-cheek. Life is too full of negatives without a little fun and levity injected to make it lighter. I'm glad someone doesn't think USC and UCLA moving out of the conference is a good thing, or even a positive thing. I sure hope Oregon doesn't follow suit but finds good, up and coming programs to fill the "void" left behind by the Trojans and Bruins. Montana would do, for a start. Seriously. At least we know they'd be happy to be included and Oregon wouldn't have to cross 3 time zones to play them. Let USC and UCLA go get pummeled by the Big 10. T'would serve them right, imo.
  4. This must be where Phil Russo got his material. I can't believe it. Talk about putting pressure on Dan Lanning & staff to perform, let alone the young men they're training! All's fun, I guess. If I were Georgia this'd motivate the beegeezus out me. As if they need any motivation.
  5. Sorry, should have included the link, but it's just above this posting. I'm still wiping coffee off my shirt.
  6. Will the Oregon Ducks Return to the College Football Playoff in 2022? WWW.YARDBARKER.COM The 2022 college football season is upon us, with the Week 0 slate starting on Saturday and headlined by an international matchup between Northwestern and Nebraska in Ireland. While Oregon...
  7. Imagine the surprise. Sipping coffee, catching up on the morning news, reading Russo's latest article "Will the Oregon Ducks Return to the College Playoffs" where he takes his stab at this seasons predictions. (Why not? Everyone else seems to be doing it.) I find this: (spoiler alert!) "Russo believes the Ducks finish the season as the fourth-best t"eam in the country behind Clemson (#3), Ohio State (#2) and Alabama (#1). This would hypothetically create a Peach Bowl matchup of Oregon vs. Alabama". I've coffee all over my shirt. So, how's this for gist with the morning bagel, guys? What's that tell you about Saturday's matchup with the Bulldogs?
  8. Does it count against us if I say I hope the Dawgs go 0-1 next week?
  9. Good, Charles. For those of us who are lost with the name terminology for all the defensive positions. Wherever Lupoi puts him, Funa will contribute.
  10. Ah, what a pair of classics those 2 shows were/are. I remember them so well...
  11. It's tough on reporters wanting to fill space in their columns and Lanning will probably get better at giving them bones w/o divulging secrets. That's one key to being a good HC, I think. Public relations - something they all probably dread but must be addressed.
  12. Great answer but I'll challenge you on: 1) 3rd down efficiency. That's not teaching, that's the in-game decision making we all talked about throughout the season, 2) Teaching Brown & Herbert to be better across the board. It seems more like he didn't use them the way he should have or, in Herbert's case, kept him on a leash he didn't need. Not teaching. Brown & Herbert obviously left the university knowing very well how to play QB in the NFL. But you gave a reasonable and passionate answer so I gave you my thumb's up. MC's tenure at Miami ought to be an interesting one to see if they respond the same way Oregon did under his leadership.
  13. Kinda mimics my guess 20-10 Georgia. But that's pretty optimistic. I do think the Ducks will cover. First game jitters on both sides.
  14. A good point. Everyone will be watching to see if the ball carriers can hang on to the ball when Georgia hits 'em.
  15. Doing my math: If Oregon loses (failing to cover the spread) they still remain in the Top 20? Possibly. My guess is no, the pollsters pounce! If Oregon covers the spread (my guess) they rise 3 to #8? Bit too low, imo. They rise 5 spots to #6 (this is the defending champs) If Oregon wins somehow they come in just behind OSU? Depends on what OSU does, of course. (but we beat OSU last year) Also, if Oregon wins somehow I hate to think what will happen to Georgia and Kirby Smart. As you say, without good teams to face till 'Bama it could be awhile before Georgia sees a Top 5 spot again. Good answer though!
  16. Ok, it was July 14, over 6 weeks ago, but little should have changed since then with the rosters of Oregon & Georgia. Dylan Mickanen of Fan Nation was making his "way too early" game prediction for this game: 45-17 Georgia. wow. Personally, 'too early' or not, that's rather high, imo. How far will Oregon fall (from #11) if this occurs? How far will Oregon rise if the Ducks cover the spread? How far will Oregon rise if (the sky falls and) Oregon squeaks out a win? The same questions could be asked about Georgia, in reverse. But, let's stay with the Ducks, if anyone's interested in commenting.
  17. Then every yahoo out there will think the "starter' is injured....lol ! I think Fischer is right, why give the Bulldogs anything when there's nothing to be gained? Plus, this keeps the players themselves in the 'competition for play' mode and, (sadly) staves off any thoughts of transfer for a bit longer, maybe.
  18. Yes. Or at least the DC and his assistants do. They've got film on all of them and it's always nice to know who's lining up across from you. If Georgia isn't concerned every game, they will not be challenging for another title.
  19. Could mean a lot of things but the simplest is usually the best: he either isn't sure at all the positions yet and/or he feels nothing to be gained by revealing anything to Georgia. Hey, I liked Kelly's closed-mouthed approach so why wouldn't I like Lannings?
  20. I think you might be underestimating Utah's talent. That said, where Utah beat the Ducks was thru better scheming and fully understanding how to exploit weaknesses. They were perfectly built and structured to neutralize anything Oregon was schemed to do on offense but they needed high caliber talent to do it. In my opinion.
  21. Would you care to explain this to us? We all had head-scratching moments throughout the last few seasons regarding game-time decisions by MC but I'd like to learn why you feel he wasn't a good teacher.
  22. Realistically speaking, (keeping in mind Oregon has yet to play a single game under Dan Lanning) Oregon has about as much up-side potential as any team in college football right now. More than most. Whether they'll get there or not is the question.
  23. Bridges, in his interview yesterday, admitted he was practicing mostly at the Corner position. I think Lanning and Lupoi think that might be where he's most effective. But there's a lot to learn when moving from Safety to Corner. He has the speed for it, tho.
