Stanford edges Ducks in final frames to pick up pivotal series win
Stanford scored three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to overcome a two-run deficit and claim the series win over Oregon at Jane Sanders Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Led by a standout performance by pitcher Alanna Vawter, who allowed just two earned runs compared to three strikeouts on Sunday, the No. 7 Cardinal edged past the No. 20 Ducks 3-2 in the third defensive battle between the two teams in as many days.
“I think we had plenty of opportunities,” Oregon head coach Melyssa Lombardi said. “We lose by one run, but we get our lead-off on five times and we’re not able to come through — it could’ve looked different.”
