  2. This is a great Jon Wilner article that is wonderful news for the Pac-12. Business of Sports – No, UCLA and USC won’t take their NCAA Tournament units to the Big Ten Time for Pac-12 fans to embrace the enemy within. UCLA and USC are departing for the Big Ten in the summer of 2024, but the March Madness units they collect in the NCAA’s complicated revenue distribution formula will remain bound to the Pac-12 for the full payout cycle. The schools are leaving; the units are staying. USC was eliminated Friday by Michigan State, while the Bruins have advanced to the second round and a date with Northwestern on Saturday. Their success will impact Pac-12 budgets for years to come. So if you’re wondering whether to root for the L.A. schools, keep in mind the endgame: Their success in the NCAAs could be worth $1 million or more to your school over time. 3. UCLA only Pac-12 team remaining after NCAA Tournament first weekend The 2023 NCAA Tournament began with four schools from the conference of champions, but after the first two days of action only one Pac-12 school – the UCLA Bruins – remained. It’s another disappointing year for the conference, and the impending departure of both UCLA and USC – half the Pac-12’s Tournament teams – makes it hard to be optimistic about the future. Conferences secure a ton of money from NCAA Tournament appearances and wins, and while football is king it is absolutely an issue that this conference has very little basketball pedigree beyond 2024. Of course, potential addition San Diego State already punched their ticket into the Sweet 16 with wins over Charleston and Furman, showcasing one of their biggest arguments for inclusion in the conference. 4. Hi Duckdude. I had to investigate who Freddie Blassie was. This was a great description of him: "Blassie's legacy all comes down to having one important trait: He could make anyone hate him in an instant. And boy, did he ever."

  6. Oregon offense explodes with 14-8 win over Washington State After a fairly uneventful series opener, Saturday’s game was anything but. Oregon and Washington State went back and forth for much of the game, but it was Oregon that prevailed, beating the Cougars 14-8 in an offense-dominated contest at Bailey-Brayton Field. Six Ducks had multiple hits. Drew Cowley reached base five times, while Gavin Grant hit a grand slam and Tanner Smith had four hits and three RBIs. They combined for 17 hits and nine walks as a team. It ended the Ducks’ four-game losing streak, rejuvenating life into a squad that had struggled to keep the energy up over the last few games. "We've been pushing a big boulder uphill the last couple games," Smith said. "And today, we really wanted to come out and slow everything down, and really capture momentum every pitch and every play. I think we did a really good job with that." Read how the Ducks' bats finally came around in the Daily Emerald. 7. Morgan Scott shines as Ducks end Stanford's 21-game win streak Morgan Scott picked up a complete-game victory on Saturday, as Oregon outlasted Stanford 2-1 in a defensive battle between ranked teams at Jane Sanders Stadium. After dropping the series-opener against the No. 7 Cardinal, the No. 20 Ducks picked up their first home win of the season, forcing a split against a Stanford team that had won 21 straight games entering Saturday. After surrendering two hits and a run in the first frame. Scott subdued the Cardinal for the remainder of the game, allowing just two hits and no runs over the final six innings. The UNC Greensboro transfer finished the game with four strikeouts, one base on balls, and zero earned runs in a full seven innings of play. “Morgan’s good,” head coach Melyssa Lombardi said. “She’s got good movement, throws the ball hard, and it was great to see her really thrive in this game — and it was a tight game all the way through.” Morgan Scott shines as Ducks end Stanford's 21-game win streak 247SPORTS.COM Morgan Scott picked up a complete-game victory on Saturday, as Oregon outlasted Stanford 2-1 in a defensive battle between ranked teams at Jane Sanders Stadium. After DUCKS TAKE DOWN NO. 7 CARDINAL The No. 20 Oregon softball team on Saturday recorded its third win over a top-10 opponent this season, beating No. 7 Stanford 2-1 behind the pitching of Morgan Scott and a couple of clutch hits by Allee Bunker. Scott (4-3) allowed only an unearned run in a four-hit complete game, outdueling Stanford starter NiJaree Canady, who hadn't allowed a run all season entering Saturday. Bunker changed that with a run-scoring single to tie the game in the first inning, and the UO senior drove in another run with her fifth homer of the spring in the sixth. Stanford (23-3) had won 21 straight entering Saturday, needing extra innings to extend that streak in the series opener Friday. But the Cardinal had few answers for Scott, who struck out four and walked just one. "We call it 'demon mode' — she just has a look about her where we're pumped up to play behind her and we know when she's locked in and in the zone," Bunker said. "I think just the energy and her pace of play is what really helps us to thrive." Morgan Scott’s gem, Allee Bunker’s bat send No. 19 Oregon softball past No. 7 Stanford Since the day Melyssa Lombardi arrived at Oregon she’s spoken of the importance of having staff of pitchers and not relying on a single ace, yet for the past four-plus seasons the question has loomed as to who the second capable arm would be for the Ducks to turn to. For the first time in Lombardi’s tenure Oregon may very well have a formidable pitching duo. 9. Oregon Previews provide perfect weather for distance racing as Oregon Track and Field team opens its outdoor season As darkness fell and the temperature dropped, the lights were bright at Hayward Field for the first time this year as the Oregon Previews kicked off the 2023 outdoor season on Friday night. Day one featured the women’s and men’s 10,000 meters. The 25 laps for the women were paced by junior Izzy Thorton-Bott, who finished ninth in the mile at the NCAA indoor championships earlier in March. Eight women toed the start line, including regional cross-country qualifiers Harper McClain, Malia Pivec and Maddy Elmore. After taking the lead at the end of the third lap, Emilie Girard led the pack in the first mile with a time of 5 minutes and 22.93 seconds. Pivec began falling behind the lead pack 12 laps in, with Thorton-Bott urging her to keep up. Thornton-bott pumped her arm in the air every time she passed the finish line, causing the Hayward crowd to clap, yelp and cheer on the athletes. 10. Hi Mudslide. I am sorry I do not know what the reasoning was. I was ready to post that we were up 3-1 and noticed that it was taken off. I was actually watching the baseball game when all that occurred as they were having a big inning at the same time! I am sure when the articles come in, it will be mentioned.
