  1. How Oregon’s Christian Gonzalez performed at the NFL Scouting Combine Oregon’s Christian Gonzalez showcased his athleticism at the NFL Scouting Combine and received the highest overall grade score among cornerbacks from NFL Next Gen Stats. Between those measurables and his production, Gonzalez received a 92 overall draft score from NFL Next Gen Stats, highest among this year’s cornerbacks. 2. The Pac-12 Conference CEO Group voted to approve “further exploration” of four universities for possible conference expansion, I have learned. SMU and San Diego State are in the quartet, according to one of the conference presidents. Colorado State may also be among the candidates. I’m still working to confirm that and the fourth school. Canzano: Pac-12 officially exploring four expansion schools WWW.JOHNCANZANO.COM Oregon remains "way on board" with Pac-12, per source.

  4. 'A complete and utter mess:' College athletics in turmoil as model changes, revenue streams dry up The collegiate model is changing and revenue streams might soon be too shallow to adequately fill the growing money pit. Name, Image, and Likeness laws have led boosters to trim donations to athletic departments so they can instead pay players directly through NIL deals. Before that philosophical shift by boosters, the average operating deficit among FBS programs was $18.8 million in 2019. Departments were already struggling thanks in part to the introduction of cost-of-attendance stipends in the mid-2010s, when schools began paying players. More recently, the NCAA began allowing universities to pay players academic bonuses tagged as high as $5,980. Only 22 of 130 FBS institutions chose to do so in 2022, according to ESPN. Many administrators are pinching pennies, preparing for what they believe is an inevitability: the day student-athletes become student-athlete-employees at universities. It’s the most significant financial threat to the collegiate model, and the walls are closing in as the NCAA continues to lose antitrust lawsuits. 6. Will Richardson's name is now in Oregon record books, and is unlikely to be removed It’s unlikely that we ever see a career like Will Richardson’s ever again for the Oregon Ducks. That’s not because it’s been filled with endless unforgettable moments, or accolades that will have his name littered throughout the record books in Eugene. Rather, it’s because, in the new world of college basketball, where the transfer portal is ever looming and the pathway of “one-and-done” has become the norm, there are simply few players who will have the patience to stick around. On Thursday night, Richardson made history by becoming the first player in Oregon history to play in 145 career games. Before him, both Jonathan Lloyd and Payton Pritchard had reached the 144-game mark, but with 5 years under his belt, and a handful of games left to play, Richardson took the belt. Oregon Basketball: Will Richardson’s record unlikely to be broken DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Will Richardson made history on Thursday night, and it’s a record that is unlikely to be broken any time soon.
  7. Kelly Graves says Ducks would play in WNIT if NCAA Tournament doesn't work out It remains unclear what the postseason will hold for the Oregon women's basketball team, but Kelly Graves made it clear following Thursday's Pac-12 Tournament loss to Stanford that his team would be playing regardless of what tournament they're included in. While the latest ESPN bracket projections have the Ducks as the final team inside the field, they remain anything but a lock to go dancing. Should the Ducks be excluded from that tournament, they would accept a bid to an invitational tournament like the WNIT, Graves said on Thursday. "My philosophy has always been if somebody wants us to play, we're going to play. So, that's a yes," Graves said when asked about a possible WNIT opportunity. "I think the team would rather play. I've never understood why people turn things like that down on some kind of principle." 8. Ducks now last team within NCAA Tournament field in latest ESPN projection It's too early to say if Oregon's done enough to reach this year's NCAA Tournament field, but at least one media outlet thinks the Ducks would be in the field should the season end today. ESPN's Charlie Creme posted his most recent bracket projections on Friday morning, and now has Oregon as the final team within the field as a 12-seed. The Ducks would face St. John's in the opening four games in Creme's projection. Per Creme, the Ducks opened the week as the final team outside the field entering this week's conference tournament. A win over Washington, another bubble team on Wednesday, provided them enough juice to get over the hump this time around. Oregon's resume is a confounding one. Sure, the Ducks are 17-14 on the season and finished with a losing 7-11 record in conference play, but they also have far and away the best computer metrics of any team currently on the bubble. Even with the 14 defeats this season, the Ducks are No. 19 in the NET Ranking after Thursday's Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinal loss to Stanford. 9. As Senior Day approaches on Saturday the Ducks hope to send out their seniors in style Saturday night will be a chance for Oregon's fans to say goodbye to one of the program's most successful players, while also giving a large Oregon senior class a chance at walking off the floor with a win. Senior day for the Oregon men's basketball program will be held following the team's game against Stanford at 1 p.m. For Oregon, they hope this is the team's final home game of the year because they made the NCAA Tournament. The Ducks will honor senior point guard Will Richardson while fellow seniors N'Faly Dante, Jermaine Couisnard, Quincy Guerrier, Rivaldo Soares, and walk-on Brady Paris could all also walk and be honored. Everyone but Richardson still has a year of eligibility remaining if they want to use it stemming from the 2020-2021 season played during COVID, keeping the door open for a return next season. 10. The Latest With Oregon Commit Fox Crader After Landing Big Offers He'll get a good feel for other schools this spring, but he also plans to take multiple trips out to Eugene, including one to meet new offensive line coach A'lique Terry. "I'm definitely gonna be back soon to go meet the new O-line coach, Coach Terry probably at some point this month," Crader said. "And then I'll be there for a spring practice as well as the spring game in April. I don't have those dates scheduled but I'll definitely be there for all three of those." Some fans have been quick to draw conclusions as Klemm's departure coincides with plans to visit other schools but Crader set the record straight. 11. Brennan Rigsby lost for the year due to injury, Lok Wur also out with another injury The Oregon Ducks have been hit by the injury bug once again this season, and it's now ended the season of one of Oregon's guards while another reserve might be out for an extended period of time. Following Oregon's blowout win over visiting California on Thursday night, Dana Altman announced that sophomore reserve guard Brennan Rigsby will miss the team's remaining games and be out of action for the rest of the year. "Brennan has broken a finger and he's out for the year," said Altman. 12. Couisnard's hot shooting and Oregon's adjustments to the physicality power the Ducks blowout win Thursday night in Eugene the Oregon Duck men's basketball team needed about 10 minutes to adjust to the style of play visiting California wanted to play with. Once the Ducks found their groove, the game tipped in Oregon's favor and the Ducks ran away with the blowout victory. "We started off the game turning it over quite a bit, but as the game went on we did a much better job," said Oregon head coach Dana Altman. The Ducks committed six turnovers in the first 10 minutes of the game but then committed just one more turnover over the next 30 minutes of play. 13. Tyrone Williams' team-first approach draws high praise from Dana Altman Tyrone Williams arrived at Oregon this offseason with high expectations to be a regular rotation player for Oregon after starring as one of the junior college's most prolific scorers in the last few seasons. Not getting into college until late into the summer has made cracking the rotation this year difficult. Yet Williams' effort and attitude is why Dana Altman was praising the junior guard after Oregon's 84-51 win against California. "I really respect the fact that he stayed with it. I kept telling him that he was paying attention because one of these nights I am going to call on you and I hope you're ready," Altman said of Williams. 15. MBB Recap: Ducks blow out Cal, 84-51, in penultimate home game of season History was made before the first point was even scored on Thursday night at Matthew Knight Arena. As soon as the ball was tipped, Will Richardson entered the record books. Oregon’s game against the California Golden Bears marked the 145th time that Richardson laced them up in his college career, giving him the most games of anyone in Ducks’ history. Both Jonathan Lloyd and Payton Pritchard previously held the record at 144 career games. As far as the rest of the game went, it was largely uneventful. The Ducks managed to build a sizeable lead late in the first half and never looked back, which gave the starters and hobbled players a chance to rest through the waning minutes of the game.
