Dan Lanning: "I think we have a program that can be the best in the nation" On Thursday, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning announced he was staying at Oregon instead of going after the Alabama head coaching job following Nick Saban's retirement. Lanning gave an exclusive interview about the decision with ESPN's Pat McAfee on ESPN's broadcast of the Pat McAfee Show. Here are a few notes of what Lanning said during the 8-minute interview. Lanning said he never was in the state of Alabama and was watching a movie with one of his sons Wednesday night when he started receiving text messages from players, people within the college football industry, and other outlets. Lanning said the noise was a bit of a distraction Wednesday night but that he quickly shut it down to the people he needed to tell. "They know where I am at. 10 toes down," Lanning said of his message to his team. Why stay at Oregon over Alabama? Lanning referenced the same talking points he's repeated repeatedly: Oregon has everything he wants at Oregon. Go into article to read more of what was discussed... Dan Lanning shuts down potential of NFL coaching leap in near future Oregon Ducks football coach Dan Lanning made it crystal clear that he wasn’t going to leave his current job for any college job in the nation. He just told the whole world that he wasn’t leaving Eugene for Tuscaloosa as Lanning posted on social media that he wouldn’t be going to Alabama to replace Nick Saban. College football is one thing, but the NFL is another. Lanning was recently on the Pat McAfee Show on ESPN and discussed several subjects, including the possibility of leaving Oregon for a head coaching job in the NFL. I used to dream of coaching in the NFL. I’m from Kansas City. I gew up a big Kansas City Chiefs fan. But I’ll tell you this, there’s nobody in the nation that I want to coach the Chiefs other than Andy Reid. He’s got to keep killing it. This guy solves problems. I’m cheering for Andy every week, Pat Mahomes, Travis Kelce. The Chiefs got to keep winning. I love where I’m at. I think that’s really clear. This is where I want to be. The Duck fanbase can relax a bit as Andy Reid isn’t expected to leave the Chiefs any time soon, but with the stunning announcements of Pete Carroll leaving the Seahawks and Bill Belichick leaving the Patriots, anything is possible... Dan Lanning shuts down potential of NFL coaching leap in near future DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Dan Lanning says he has no NFL head coaching aspirations at this time, but Duck fans better hope the Chiefs Andy Reid doesn’t...

2024 Duck Commits (Thread No. 2)
Pennsylvania Duck replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Oregon Football Signee Spotlight: Defensive Lineman Xadavien Sims Xadavien Sims heads to Eugene as the No. 1 recruit out of the state of Oklahoma in the 2024 recruiting class. They were a lot of gifted players in San Antonio last week for the Adidas All-American Bowl, but one I was most looking forward to seeing was 2024 Durant (Okla.) defensive lineman and Oregon signee Xadavien Sims. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive lineman was ranked the top player in his state and spoke with Ducks Digest about his recruitment and what's next when he enrolls at Oregon. Sims was born in Alabama and spent his first two high school seasons at Denison High School in Texas before transferring to Durant, where he became a national recruit. One of the many talented defensive linemen set to play for Tony Tuioti, he reflected on what it was like getting recruited by the Ducks. "As soon as you get on campus you just feel the vibe of the place," he said. "I don't see how somebody could get on campus and not wanna go there. It's like everything you need plus more, plus you have great coaches to coach you and develop you that have been in the NFL and all over the country developing great players and getting all these defensive linemen and defensive players to the League." Duck fans celebrate after Dan Lanning emphatically turns down Alabama job With rumors swirling that head coach Dan Lanning was the leading candidate to take over as the next head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide in the wake of Nick Saban’s retirement on Wednesday, the Ducks’ coach put that all to rest with the posting of a video from Oregon’s team meeting on Wednesday afternoon. In that video, Lanning assured players that he won’t be leaving to take the Alabama job, and that he was staying in Eugene. “If you’re scared your coach is leaving, then come play for us. The Ducks aren’t going anywhere, and I’m not leaving,” the video said. As you would expect, Duck fans went absolutely wild with celebration on social media, knowing that they had their coach. Lanning Video This Morning: He is STAYING!

Dan Lanning in video confirming commitment to Oregon: 'You be the best where you're at' On Thursday morning, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning released a video reaffirming his commitment to Oregon. "Who has goals and aspirations, raise your hand up," said Lanning in the video posted on X (formerly Twitter). "Everybody's got goals and aspirations, you want to know how you get those? You be the best where you're at. That's how you reach goals and aspirations. That's how great things happen. It's not about worrying about the next thing it's about worrying what's right in front of you; six inches in front of your face. I want to remind you guys what that means. You guys that just got here, you don't know but that's what it means to be an Oregon Duck. Everybody makes commitments on the things they're going to do. A lot of starters, the world doesn't have a lot of what? Finishers. We're finishers." As Alabama circles, we'll wait for what Dan Lanning says and does Oregon, yet again, has another SEC program being linked to wanting to hire Dan Lanning, and this time, it's Alabama. I was at the school parking lot to pick up my oldest son from the school when he hopped in the car and asked me if I knew Nick Saban had retired. Funny how sometimes things work like that. My first thought was that today and the rest of this week will be wild and stressful for Duck fans to play out as they wait for the fate of their head coach, Dan Lanning. Alabama will most certainly come calling for Dan Lanning. They'll probably try and get him to interview. Lanning should interview for that job if I was his agent telling him what to do. Will he take it if offered? Who knows. That's where the mystery lies right now. My gut says Lanning will remain at Oregon, but I'd be lying if I felt 100 percent confident in that feeling. Why do I think Lanning stays? He's different than most head coaches. He's not afraid to go out and say something brash because he's not worried about having egg on his face for something he might do later on down the road. Lanning loves Eugene and he loves the school at Oregon. He's said that time and time again, and he said he's committed to Oregon for the long haul even just two weeks ago. Explaining Dan Lanning's connection to Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide Oregon Athletic Director Rob Mullens hired Dan Lanning out of SEC country with the hopes he would bring an SEC mentality to the football program. But with that came the possibility of an elite SEC job could draw Lanning away from Eugene and in just two seasons, that job opened up. Alabama’s Nick Saban just announced that after 17 years and seven national titles in Tuscaloosa, he would be retiring and the Crimson Tide are now in the market for a new coach. Everyone is saying Lanning’s name will be on the top of the list of replacements. But what is the tie between Oregon’s head coach and the historic program that makes it such an obvious fit? Column: Oregon's Dan Lanning may end up at Alabama, but not in 2024 Here we go again. Oregon Duck fans over the years have gotten used to the rumors circulating about their head coach potentially having eyes for other schools, and ultimately leaving the program to “go back home.” It happened with Willie Taggart, who left for Florida State, and it happened with Mario Cristobal, who left for Miami. Minor rumors have swirled over the past two years concerning Dan Lanning, with both Auburn and Texas A&M jobs opening, but neither gained much traction in the end. The main reasoning was that the two jobs didn’t offer a step up for Lanning, who has it pretty good at Oregon, and neither offered a “return home” for the Ducks’ coach who went to William Jewell College. In reality, there were thought to only be one or two jobs that could ultimately lure Lanning away from Eugene if they opened up: Alabama and Georgia, two previous stops in the coaches’ career. Well, one of those jobs just opened up... Oregon Ducks: Dan Lanning may end up at Alabama, but not in 2024 DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning is a top candidate to replace Nick Saban at Alabama. Here’s why he will stay.

Duck fans react to Nick Saban's retiring, news that Dan Lanning is top Alabama candidate The Oregon Ducks’ fanbase had quite a bit of fun on Wednesday morning with the rumors that Washington Huskies’ head coach Kalen DeBoer could be a candidate to replace Pete Carroll With the Seattle Seahawks. Those jokes about a coach potentially leaving became a lot less funny in the afternoon, though, when it was announced that Alabama head coach Nick Saban was retiring, and Oregon coach Dan Lanning was being considered a top candidate to replace him. While Lanning has continually said over the past couple of years that he has no intentions of leaving Oregon, and that he could see this being his last job, there is still some worry among fans that this could be a job big enough for Lanning to jump ship for. As you would expect, there were some worries aired on social media...
