Alabama football: Dan Lanning would be ideal Nick Saban replacement Wednesday was the day that no Alabama football fan would ever be ready for. Legendary head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement after being with the program since 2007. During that time, Saban won six national titles and went an astonishing 201-29. His Tide were pushing for another national title this year, but eventual national champion Michigan came from behind to beat Alabama in overtime, effectively ending the impressive career of Saban. On Wednesday, he announced he would be retiring after arguably the best coaching career of any college football coach in the history of the sport. The seven-time national champion turned 72 this year and everyone kind of felt like it would be his last year even if he didn't come out and say it. So who would be the ideal replacement for a guy who has won more than anyone in college football? You can't easily replace the best head coach of all time, but if there's someone who seems to be on track to be one of the greats in the college football world, it's Dan Lanning... We've spent previews days recapping Oregon's top offensive leaderboards. I've posted the all-time statistical lists for quarterback, running back and wide receiver. The results have helped paint a clearer picture of Oregon's success in each area and which players occupy top positions in school-history. I've decided to take a similar path for Oregon's defensive players. The program has long boasted a slew of big-time defenders. A look at the leaders in tackles, sacks and interceptions does help convey more clearly who the best are though. Today, I've pulled out the Oregon official record book to run through the school's all-time defensive stats, compiling the 10 best in a variety of categories. This story will list the top individual games, seasons and careers of Ducks using a variety of statistical categories from sacks to interceptions. So prepare yourself for a trip down memory lane with the ultimate rundown of Oregon's all-time defensive leaderboards... I Was WRONG About Jackson Shelstad...

Is Jackson Shelstad A Generational Point Guard For Oregon Men’s Basketball? I was watching Oregon MBB at MKA a week and a half ago, against the LA schools. What struck me in particular was the play of Jackson Shelstad, Oregon’s freshman PG. He was the fastest player on the Ducks, and maybe on the court; made some excellent assists, and can be an assassin when knocking down a bucket. I thought to myself while watching those games that he looks like the best freshman PG we’ve had since Luke Ridnour. At least that’s what my eyes were telling me - but is there any substantiation to the eye test? Is Jackson Shelstad A Generational Point Guard For Oregon Men’s Basketball? Oregon extends offer to rising 3-star defensive lineman Dan Lanning and company continue to mine the 2025 high school defensive line prospects this offseason, and the Ducks have extended another scholarship offer to a rising prospect up front. Oregon offered 2023 defensive line talent Stephon Shivers out of Humbolt High School in Tennessee this week. Shivers announced the offer through his social media channels. Shivers was one of the early standouts at the Adidas Underclassmen All-American Combine earlier this month down in Texas. Throughout the past week I've run through the University of Oregon's statistical leaderboards. This has allowed us to take stock of who the best in program history are in a variety areas from passing to rushing to receiving to defensive categories. Today, I'm continuing this exercise by putting together the school's top special teams list. Within this story is a breakdown of the team's top punt and kickoff returners as well as who tops the school's place kicking and punting lists. Included are top single-season and career lists for each facet of the game. Specialist Camden Lewis completed his polarizing career in the Fiesta Bowl last week and now finds himself at or near the top of many of the school's leaderboards. You'll notice that numerous players from the past decade are included on these lists, including one expected to be on the 2024 roster too... Where CB Kam Alexander stands among the top-rated transfers in Dan Lanning era As the offseason continues to roll on, Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducksc continue to work their magic in the transfer portal and put together a roster for the 2024 season. While much of the roster building has consisted of stars from 2023 announcing that they will return for 2024, the Ducks also picked up a new addition on Monday, with former UTSA cornerback Kam Alexander announcing his transfer to Oregon after an official visit in Eugene over the weekend. Alexander is a sixth-year senior who will come in and compete for a starting spot right away, and could be one of the bigger instant-impact players on the defense. He was one of the top-graded CBs in the nation a year ago, according to Pro Football Focus, and has a high upside in Eugene. So where does he rank among the 28 (non-specialist) Oregon transfers in the Lanning era? There are two ways to look at it. For starters, you can take into account the 247Sports Transfer Portal rankings. However, those rankings don’t always hold true to what we see playing out on the field — for instance, Bo Nix was a 3-star prospect in the portal, who finished his college career as a Heisman Trophy finalist in New York. For good measure, I added my own rankings based on how good each player ended up being in Eugene. With all of that being said, let’s take a look at the best transfers that the Ducks have landed since Lanning has been here, and see where Alexander mixes in... 5 things to know about Oregon's new cornerback Kam Alexander All football teams have depth. But it’s the quality of depth that separates the good teams from the great ones. When Dan Lanning was hired, one of his main objectives at Oregon was to improve the quality of depth on the roster and after two seasons, he has succeeded. His success continues with the Ducks landing former UT-San Antonio corner Kameryn Alexander. He’ll be a graduate senior for Oregon in 2024 and will have just one year of eligibility remaining. Oregon’s defense just got better as Alexander is a cover corner and he’ll help out a young defensive back room with his knowledge and experience. Alexander also brings a bit of talent as well and will fight for a starting spot at one of the corner positions. Here are five things to know about Oregon’s new corner... Kam Alexander Breaks Down Oregon Commitment On Monday, Oregon picked up a commitment from USTA transfer cornerback Kameryn Alexander. He broke down his decision with Ducks Digest and shared part of his football story. "Because of the people," he said of his decision. "Also the environment is just amazing. Not many people travel to that side, especially travel to Oregon and they don't realize how great of an atmosphere they have. "The coaches are genuine, it's just a place to be. And it's just an all around good situation for me to even consider going there." Assistant wide receivers coach Antonio Parks, who joined the Oregon staff prior to the 2023 season, came over from USTA and played a big role in his recruitment. "With AP, he was the guy who pulled up my film for me to go to UTSA, so the coach could see. So when he got to Oregon, he did the same thing and he wanted me to come to Oregon." Oregon has landed yet another big transfer portal addition. Kam Alexander has committed to Oregon after officially visiting it this past weekend. The 5-foot-11 cornerback becomes Oregon's seventh verbal commitment in the transfer portal this offseason. Alexander shared his commitment decision on social media on Monday morning, a day after returning home from his visit. The expectation is that Alexander will compete for a starting spot at cornerback this coming season. Currently, Alexander is an unranked transfer portal prospect. He also holds a reported scholarship offer from Washington. Alexander is one of the top Group of 5 cornerbacks in the country and was nationally ranked 45th among all cornerbacks at the FBS level in coverage with a PFF grade of 82.6. That number is five points higher than Oregon's No. 1 cover corner Khyree Jackson this season. Jackson declared for the NFL Draft and is a projected Day 2 or Day 3 pick. Alexander's 81.2 overall PFF grade is also ranked 41st nationally and would have been tops on Oregon's roster among cornerbacks this past season.
