Oregon lands Top 100 and four-star linebacker Brayden Platt Yelm (Wash.) linebacker Brayden Platt breaks down his commitment to Oregon... Platt picked the Ducks from 20 offers, narrowing it down to Oklahoma and Oregon. But the Ducks had emerged over the last few months, with Platt planning to both play linebacker and do track and field for Oregon. "I knew it was the place for me on the last official visit and kind of at (USATF) nationals," said Platt. So Platt let the Oregon coaches know he was in. Ducks jump up recruiting rankings following commitment from 4-star LB Brayden Platt As the 2023 college football season got underway, the recruiting world for the Oregon Ducks has taken a back seat as far as the public news cycle has gone for fans. That changed on Monday night, though, as Dan Lanning and the Ducks landed one of their top prospects in the 2024 class — 4-star linebacker Brayden Platt, the top-ranked player in the state of Washington. Platt is rated by 247Sports as the No. 8 LB in the class, and the No. 72 overall player. He is now the third linebacker that Oregon has gotten a commitment from in this cycle. Coming into Monday, the Ducks had the 14th-ranked recruiting class in the nation, but that number got better with the addition of Platt. Check out where they now rank... USC, UCLA, Washington, and Oregon are off to the Big 10 in 2024 while Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and Arizona State head to the Big 12. What we get though is maybe the most loaded conference we've seen in some time as five Pac-12 teams are ranked inside the Top 25 by major polls and seven or eight teams could make a bowl game. Here are our Power Rankings heading into Week 2... Pac-12 Power Rankings Week 2 247SPORTS.COM We rank the 12 Pac-12 football teams from first to worst every week. Here is week 2's rankings. -

2023 Season: Outlook, Projections, Opinions

ESPN FPI: Ducks' championship odds see a bump; Oregon favored to win all but one game The Oregon Ducks beat up on an FCS school in the first week of the 2023 season, beating the Portland State Vikings 81-7. A lot of Oregon fans and college football fans, in general, are looking past the result as much more than a beatdown on a tilted field. However, the stat tabulators that work for the ESPN Football Power Index seem incredibly impressed by the Ducks’ performance. After each week of the season, we like to look back at the ESPN FPI and see how the projections change based on the previous result. For the Ducks — who were favored to win all but two games coming into the season — the expectations have gone up. Oregon is now favored to win all but one game in the season, and in that single game, the percent chance at a victory went up. On top of that, the Ducks saw their odds to win the Pac-12, make it to the College Football Playoff, and win the national championship all rise as well. Take a look at the latest FPI predictions following Week 1... On game weeks, we will have a Pregame thread. Usually, these will start on Sunday/Monday as that is when the Pregame articles will start coming out. Because advertising only appears on the first page and we want to earn as much money as possible for OBDF, this will be a continual thread. This means that older articles will be deleted as the page fills up. After the game, I will start a Postgame thread. Be sure to check in often to keep up with the news as we have some big games coming up.

After Further Review: Oregon football win over PSU offers progress report on key positions Oregon head coach Dan Lanning, along with 45,723 fans, breathlessly anticipated his second year as the Ducks opened their last season in the Pac-12 against underdog Portland State, a better choice for an opener than last year’s trainwreck against national champion Georgia. The end result was an 81-7 shellacking that was mostly well executed, with only two penalties, no turnovers and scores on 12-of-13 possessions. The Pac-12 Is Not Going Gently Away

Week 1 Overreactions: Making sense of the Pac-12's undefeated start to 2023 We all knew that in the last year of the Pac-12 Conference as we knew it, there was an expectation that the league would be as strong as we’ve ever seen at the top. With USC, Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Oregon State all being ranked inside the top 25 going into the year, there was no question that conference out west could hold their own in 2023. I don’t think anyone expected the conference to go undefeated in Week 1 of the season, though. Ducks Set Scoring Record In Opening Win On a nearly flawless day at Autzen Stadium, even a brief afternoon rain shower waited to begin falling until after the Oregon football team had left the field with a season-opening win. It was that kind of day for the Ducks, who opened their 2023 season with an 81-7 victory Saturday before 45,723 fans in Autzen Stadium. The UO offense set a modern program record for points scored, the defense bounced back from an early scoring drive to lock down the Vikings, and nearly the entire 2023 recruiting class made their collegiate debuts for the Ducks. No doubt, film review by the coaching staff will reveal some flaws. But from the stands in the stadium, it was just about a perfect afternoon. This site offers a lot of info. If you want to see final stats, check out the menu at the top of article... Ducks Set Scoring Record In Opening Win - University of Oregon Athletics GODUCKS.COM Oregon beat Portland State on Saturday, 81-7, to set the modern program record for points in a game.

Two-sport athlete Bryce Boettcher excels in first career start Bryce Boettcher narrowly missed announcing himself to the Autzen faithful on the first kickoff of the 2023 season. Boettcher just missed a big hit to open the season but, instead, surprised the stadium by starting at linebacker with Jeffrey Bassa lining up next to him. Boettcher, a two-sport standout playing baseball under head coach Mark Wasikowski, transitioned from safety to linebacker just this fall. Last season, Boettcher forfeited his baseball scholarship to live out his dreams of playing for the football program. During the 2022 season, Boettcher only played special teams, charging down the field and looking to make a tackle. In year two, special teams again brought him his biggest college football moment yet. Following another Oregon touchdown, Camden Lewis booted one on the following kickoff, returnable for Portland State's Christian Grubb. Grubb, taking his eyes off the ball for a split second, coughed up the pill as Boettcher flew in from the left side, dove, and secured the fumble, putting the Ducks in prime position at the 13-yard line. "I saw it on the ground and my original reaction was to try and scoop and score it," said Boettcher after the game. "And then the back of my mind I realized I was probably running a little bit too fast, so I was just going to jump on it. Give it back to the offense and let them take care of the rest." Two-sport athlete Bryce Boettcher excels in first career start 247SPORTS.COM Two-sport standout Bryce Boettcher made his first start on the gridiron on Saturday, recording four tackles and a fumble recovery.

It should not be said that Portland State got “nothing” out of Saturday’s game against the Oregon Ducks at Autzen Stadium. The Vikings were paid $575,000. They got beat 81-7. It’s like Kurt Vonnegut wrote: “In this world, you get what you pay for.” Except I’m pretty sure on Planet NCAA those poor PSU football players will have to share proceeds with the school’s other sports programs. None of those other athletes spent three-plus hours on Saturday getting turfed. Still, that’s the game. I’m not here to criticize UO coach Dan Lanning’s team for scoring 11 touchdowns and a field goal in the season opener. The Ducks lined up and ran regular football plays. PSU couldn’t stop them. As coach Bobby Bowden once told an angry opponent after a blowout victory at Florida State: “It's your job to keep the score down, not mine.” When it was finally done, Oregon had 729 yards of offense and the Duck mascot — who performs push-ups after every score — had a case of compartment syndrome. Ty Thompson took advantage of the opportunity given against Portland State With Bo Nix returning for a second and final season for the Ducks in 2023, Oregon's starting QB role was filled and instantly viewed as one of the best in the country. But what did Oregon have behind him? Sophomore Ty Thompson entered his third year with the program with little production to show. Over the course of the season, the Ducks need to figure out what Ty Thompson can do and where his improvements are to further help in the decision at QB for next year. Saturday against Portland State the Ducks were able to get Thompson into the game with Oregon's first-string offense and the 6-foot-4 strong-armed QB looked perhaps as good as he's ever looked in a Duck uniform. “I think that’s a sign of what Ty’s capable of, right? Because Ty performed exactly how we expected him to perform today," said Oregon head coach Dan Lanning. Ty Thompson took advantage of the opportunity given against Portland State 247SPORTS.COM Oregon got an impressive performance from backup QB Ty Thompson and his teammates and coaches were impressed.

Gary Bryant Jr. makes strong first impression with 100 yard performance in debut Few questioned who would be Bo Nix's favorite target in 2023. Troy Franklin emerged as the unquestioned top choice a season ago. What was less clear entering Saturday's season opener was the hierarchy and chemistry between Nix and the rest of the receivers. For at least one day, Gary Bryant Jr. emerged as the clear No. 2. The USC transfer started the game opposite of Franklin at outside receiver and nearly matched the star junior's production with a seven-catch, 100-yard and two-touchdown performance. "It feels great to go out and compete with this team and see where we're at as a team," Bryant said shortly after Oregon blasted Portland State 81-7. "It's week one. It'll be an uphill battle from here, but it feels great to go out there and get back on the field." After a breakout season in 2021, the sophomore played sparingly for the Trojans last fall, utilizing a redshirt season before entering the portal. Despite falling out of favor in LA, Bryant never lost faith in his own abilities, he says. Oregon makes the Top 5 for 4-star IOL out of Florida The Oregon Ducks got some good news on the recruiting front Sunday afternoon as one of the top offensive line prospects in the state of Florida announced he's down to a select few and the Ducks made the cut. 4-star offensive lineman Eddy Pierre-Louis of Tampa Tech Catholic in Tampa, Florida announced he is only going to consider Miami, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, UCF, and the Oregon Ducks. He announced his final five on social media Sunday morning. Oregon hosted Pierre-Louis for an unofficial visit during spring football and then had hoped to get him out to campus for Saturday Night Live in July, but that visit didn't happen. The Ducks are expected to host him for an official visit this fall or winter. The Ducks offered the 6-foot-3, 335-pound lineman a scholarship back on January 20, 2022. He's ranked as the No. 246 player overall in the 247Sports Composite and ranked as the 15th-best interior offensive lineman. Within the state of Florida, Pierre-Louis is ranked as the 36th-best player overall. Currently, the 247Sports Crystal Ball has one prediction, and it's for UCF, a school near Pierre-Louis. He holds over 40 scholarship offers at this time. Oregon makes the Top 5 for 4-star IOL out of Florida 247SPORTS.COM The Ducks have made the top five for one of the top interior offensive line prospects in the state of Florida.

Stock Report: Ducks see nothing but risers in 81-7 win over Portland State With an opening game against an FCS school where you put up a program-record 81 points and win by a margin of 74, it feels wrong to say that anyone saw their stock drop on the day. For the Oregon Ducks, there was a long list of players — mostly young players — who got onto the field Saturday afternoon in the 81-7 win against the Portland State Vikings who showed what they could do after a long and hard offseason. We want to highlight them. Throughout the season, we will bring this Stock Report to you every week after Saturday’s game, singling out the players who performed the best and saw their stock rise the most, and also identifying a few players who may have had a tough day.
