  1. Oregon vs. Portland State: 'Tale of the Tape' for No. 15 Ducks vs. Vikings Members of the Oregon Ducks are looking forward to hitting someone not wearing green and yellow this weekend, and fans of the Oregon Ducks are looking forward to watching some football. Media members who cover the Oregon Ducks are just happy that we will have something other than finite periods of practice to analyze for a change. That starts right now by looking ahead to Saturday’s game against the Portland State Vikings. While it’s a lopsided affair that the Ducks are projected to win by a large margin, we still can take a deeper dive into the matchup and see where the biggest strengths and weaknesses are that either team might be able to exploit. I am happy to bring our ‘Tale of the Tape’ series out of storage and knock the dust off. So when you look at the tape and get into the numbers, which team is expected to have an advantage? Let’s take a look, using numbers from last season to project ahead. Oregon vs. Portland State: ‘Tale of the Tape’ for Ducks vs. Vikings DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM A deep dive into the numbers for No. 15 Oregon vs. Portland State. TLDR: It could be a long Saturday for the Vikings.
  2. Oregon Commit Dallas Wilson Earns Five-Star Status Oregon's 2025 recruiting class is off to a blazing start. The Ducks already hold four verbal commitments, a group that's star-studded and good enough to earn them a No. 4 national ranking in the eyes of 247Sports. Their class headliner just earned a boost as Tampa (Fla.) Bay Tech wide receiver Dallas Wilson earned five-star status in the updated 247Sports Composite rankings. The rankings, which updated on August 28, saw Wilson jump from the No. 59 player to the No. 24 overall player in the 2024 class. Wilson now ranks as a top-five player at his position and a top-five recruit in his state. Both of these are notable titles as the 2025 class has five wide receivers inside the top 28. Furthermore, the Sunshine State is one of if not the most talented state in the country when it comes to producing the stars of college football, along with Texas and California. 3. 12 burning questions for the Ducks to answer in Week 1 vs. Portland State It’s been a long offseason for the Oregon Ducks that has been full of changes. While the first year under Dan Lanning was successful, there is a hope and desire from the fanbase that 2023 will bring even higher heights to the program now that the coaching staff is more established in Eugene, and more of Lanning’s players are on the roster. We saw over half of the roster from last year replaced by incoming recruits or transfers, so there are a lot of new faces to watch on Saturday against Portland State in the season-opener. While we got a look at most of them in the spring game back in April, none of that will compare to the action that we see on Saturday afternoon. If you’re like me, then I’m sure you have a ton of questions about this team going forward, from offense to defense, to special teams. Here are some of the most important things that I think we need to find the answers to. 12 burning questions for Ducks to answer in Week 1 vs. Portland State DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Can the pass-rush get home? Will Ty Thompson thrive? Is the Jurrion Dickey hype real? Our biggest burning questions going...

  6. Saturday's threads...Click to enlarge pics No. 15 Oregon announces uniforms for week one against Portland State On Wednesday afternoon, the Oregon Ducks announced what uniforms they'll be wearing for their upcoming matchup against Portland State on September 2nd. The Ducks will go with their traditional black and yellow design, with yellow jerseys, pants, and cleats featuring black accents. Oregon's helmets will be black with carbon fiber wings, featuring a yellow "O" on the back of the helmet. Oregon has updated its uniforms very slightly for the 2023 season. The school has continued the tradition of wings on the helmet. They've kept a similar design of a flying Duck inside the football complex that honors all the Ducks to be drafted into the NFL and kept the move of the Oregon "O" to the center of the uniform's collar. The uniforms have also placed the Nike iconic "swoosh" on the left breast and the Fighting Duck on the back collar. 7. Marcus Harper settling in at familiar spot: 'It's great being back at left guard' Oregon junior Marcus Harper spoke at length on Wednesday about how he's settled in at his favorite spot after moving around during spring and fall camp. Things haven't come easy for Marcus Harper since he enrolled at Oregon in 2020. After playing sparingly his first two seasons, the Chicago native made 10 starts last season in place of Steven Jones. Once Jones returned from injury, Harper was relegated to a reserve role for the final two games. Even with the departure of four starters from a season ago, a starting role was anything but guaranteed. An injury suffered in spring took away valuable reps, and the Ducks added guard transfers Nishad Strother and Junior Angilau, both three-years starters at their previous schools, this offseason to strengthen the room. "I've proven to myself that even though there's more competition that I can go out there and do what I need to do," Harper said of this fall camp. "I remember coach [A'lique] Terry after the first scrimmage said 'Everyone is doing a great job, but who is going to be most consistent?'... 9. Pac-12 Betting Guide: Spread and Moneyline Picks for Week 1 The college football season is upon us which means there is money to be won — or as it usually is in my case: money to be lost. Sports betting is estimated to be a 90-plus billion dollar industry as recently as 2022 and in many states, college football is part of the fun. Below are all the games available to bet on for Week One in the Pac-12. Some games — like Oregon v. Portland State — aren’t included in sportsbooks, presumably because one of the schools isn’t in NCAA Division I. For each game, I list the odds as they are currently listed on FanDuel or BetMGM for both spread and moneyline bets, along with some of my thoughts. I want to note that I make very few moneyline picks in this post because most of the matchups this week are out-of-conference, and therefore more likely to be lopsided affairs. Once we get into conference play and closer games, I’ll pick the moneyline. Lastly, I want to preface that I’m no gambling expert and while I do believe in the suggestions I make below, take them with a grain of salt, and don’t bet your life savings on Coastal Carolina... 11. Trav's Ten Takeaways: Mega Season Preview We’re back! Super excited to get started with football, and excited to see where the Ducks end up in 2023. The sting of last season remains, at least with me following a November that couldn’t have gone much worse. Really hope we have a season that makes us forget about two of the more painful losses I can remember. Going into 2023, the pieces are there to get to the CFP. Between a top QB, high-end pieces depth at both RB and WR, and an underrated OL, there is no reason this offense shouldn’t remain top 10 nationally. I’m a big fan of Will Stein and don’t expect our unit to skip a beat. Because of that, the defense simply needs to be solid to good, and you find yourself with a team that could be special. When you add up year two in the system, the hiring of Chris Hampton at DC, and the additions of Evan Williams, Jordan Burch, Jestin Jacobs, Khyree Jackson, Nikko Reed, and Tysheem Johnson, it’s hard not to expect a top 40 unit. We’ll get into specifics below, but overall, super excited to watch this team and get things rolling! 15. Portland State vs Oregon Football History Given that this will be Oregon’s last football season competing against traditional Pac-12 rivals, I have decided it would be a good opportunity to look back at the Ducks history against their current conference members. All three of Oregon’s non-conference opponents this season have a history with the Ducks, however brief, so I will be reviewing that as well. 16. Lawyers request meeting with University of Oregon president regarding ‘discrimination against women athletes’ Lawyers retained by members of the University of Oregon’s beach volleyball team and women’s club rowing team are requesting a meeting with UO president John Karl Scholz or the school’s general counsel to discuss what they say is discrimination against women athletes and potential athletes in violation of Title IX. The lawyers said that if need be, they will file a lawsuit. Arthur H. Bryant of Bailey & Glasser, LLP, sent a three-page letter to Scholz Tuesday afternoon outlining claims of the school’s Title IX noncompliance. One of the country’s leading attorneys specializing in Title IX, Bryant cites an investigative report published last month by The Oregonian/OregonLive detailing the disparate treatment of players on the Oregon beach volleyball team, which has never received athletic scholarship funding in its 10 years of existence and practices and plays rare home matches at Amazon Park. 17. Josh Conerly Jr. readying himself for collegiate starting debut this Saturday Sophomore Josh Conerly Jr. is expected to make his first start in green and yellow this Saturday when the Ducks open the 2023 season with Portland State. Since signing with the Ducks as the nation's top offensive line recruit a season ago, Conerly has been preparing himself to take on a bigger role. He played just over 100 snaps a season ago as a true freshmen, acting as the only member of his class to appear in all 13 games for the Ducks. "I'm super amped. Last year I was really nervous going into our first game. Being a lot more prepared and knowing what you're doing makes it a lot more exciting," he said following Tuesday's practice. "Really try to slow things down as much as you can. I feel like when I came in everything was just moving so fast, and I didn't really know how to handle everything." While an official depth chart will not be released before Saturday's game, Conerly has been working as the team's top left tackle since spring, and is expected to operate as Bo Nix's primary blindside protector this season. 19. Bassa, Lanning provide comments on matchup against Portland State Portland State played one game against a Power 5 opponent last season against Washington. The Huskies had no problem hosting the Vikings, winning 52-6, throwing for 317 yards and rushing for 240. However, despite the clear talent gap between the Ducks and Vikings, Lanning was explicit in his concerns for his team against the Portland-based school and their fifth-year quarterback, Dante Chachere. For third-year linebacker Jeffrey Bassa, maintaining a sound defense against Chachere is necessary for the Ducks to have an effective defense. 20. Top-10 2025 WR puts Ducks among top schools There seems to be a growing chance that the Oregon Ducks 2025 wide receiver class could be one of the best that the school has ever seen. Already, the Ducks have commitments from 4-star WR Dallas Wilson, the No. 5 WR in 2025 (24th overall), and 4-star Adrian Wilson, the No. 22 WR in 2025 (122nd overall). They are also in the mix to now land 4-star WR Marcus Harris, one of the top skill-position players on the west coast from Mater Dei High School in California. On Tuesday, Harris announced his top schools, keeping Oregon in the mix. Harris is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 6 WR and No. 41 overall player in the 2025 class. It doesn’t hurt that Oregon already has a commitment from 4-star QB Akili Smith Jr., the No. 5 QB in the 2025 class. By getting him on board early on, the Oregon legacy player can help recruit to Eugene and get top-rated athletes to join him with the Ducks.
