Week 1 Thread for Non-Oregon games
Pennsylvania Duck replied to spartan2785's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Cal is tied with North Texas 14-14, beginning of 2nd quarter. Channel surfing, so I really don't know how Cal looks. -
I can't tell if CU offense is good or because TCU is not as good as I thought they would be. 17-14 CU leads at half.

Colorado offense looks like they can move the ball as they were playing fast. Their first series, they scored. The defense doesn't look as organized to me but they got the end zone interception to keep TCU from scoring. Next series, Colorado had their field goal blocked. About a minute left in first, Colorado leads 7-0.

Oregon injury report for Week 1 vs. Portland State The Oregon Ducks will open their season this afternoon against the Portland State Vikings at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. PT. While there is plenty of excitement surrounding Dan Lanning’s squad ahead of the 2023 campaign, the Ducks could be missing some firepower in Week 1. Oregon does not publicly release injury reports, and Lanning has typically opted not to discuss injuries this spring. But here is the latest Ducks injury report ahead of Saturday’s matchup with Portland State based on recent observations from practice. It's Final: Cal & Stanford to the ACC
Pennsylvania Duck replied to Mudslide's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
ACC adding Stanford, Cal, SMU feels like a new low in college sports The most honest thing that will be said about the ACC’s nonsensical expansion gambit that was formalized Friday comes from deep in the heart of Texas: Pony Up. That’s the mantra from proud new ACC member SMU, but it’s also the ethos that describes exactly what kind of Ponzi scheme the league just ran on college athletics. In a transparent, desperate, pathetic attempt to take the crumbs of conference realignment and act like they were prepared by a Michelin-starred chef, ACC commissioner Jim Phillips announced Friday that the additions of Stanford, California and SMU would “strengthen the league in all possible ways.” The ACC expanded because there was a pool of television money ESPN was contractually required to give it because of conference expansion, and most of that money will be hoarded by the existing members while the newbies subsidize their athletic departments in other ways. In SMU’s case, the desperation to get into a power conference was so strong, it reportedly agreed to forego a media-rights distribution for its first nine years as a member of the ACC. In other words, SMU is going to literally pay to play in its new league despite being competitively irrelevant in its old one. There will be three presidential elections by the time SMU gets a dollar from television. 2023 Season: Outlook, Projections, Opinions
Pennsylvania Duck replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Bill Oram: Welcome to the college football season that is guaranteed to break your heart College football is back. Pour one out for college football, may she rest in peace. Of all the emotions I’ve ever known to accompany the start of a football season — excitement, anxiety, apathy, relief — this blanket of sadness is a first. Oregon kicking off what could very well be a Pac-12 championship season rings a bit hollow. Oregon State peaking right as it gets kicked to the curb feels unjust. So, consider that intense melancholy a passenger on this final trip around the Pac-12 sun. A constant companion. Bill Oram: Welcome to the college football season that is guaranteed to break your heart WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM The death of the Pac-12 makes this final football season feel a bit hollow and, for Oregon State, downright cruel. -

Where Oregon's opponents rank in the 247Sports Team Talent Composite Earlier this week, 247Sports released its Team Talent Composite, and Oregon is in the top 10 for the third straight year at No. 10. In 2022, the first year underDan Lanning, the Ducks ranked No. 7 overall, the highest Team Talent Composite ranking in program history. In 2021, with former head coach Mario Cristobal leading the way, the Ducks were No. 9 overall. The Team Talent Composite ranks every team in the country based on the talent they've accumulated through recruiting. Since the Team Talent Composite debuted in 2015, every national champion ranked within the top 10 of the rankings. And every title winner but one (2016 Clemson) ranked within the top six. While the Team Talent Composite cannot predict who will win the national championship, it provides a baseline of talent for every team across the country. This year's Team Talent Composite does not take transfer portal rankings into account. Instead, it uses a player's high school composite rating. Of the 12 programs Oregon plays this season, their average composite ranking is 57th in college football. Essentially, Oregon's average opponent matches Vanderbilt's talent level... Portland State coach says Oregon has fastest team in Pac-12 Portland State coach Bruce Barnum couldn’t miss Oregon’s spring game earlier this year. “They are more popular than us, so their spring game was all over the TV,” he said this week ahead of their clash with the Ducks. “So we watched that even though they didn’t really show much.” And, of course, the Vikings have watched plenty of film of Oregon in the months since to try and prepare. They’ll meet on Saturday at Autzen Stadium for a noon PT kick. What does Barnum expect? Lots and lots of speed... 2023 Oregon Stock Draft: Picking unheralded Ducks with 'The Flock Pod' It’s becoming a time-honored tradition that I look forward to as much as anything we do each year — the annual Oregon Ducks Stock Draft conducted between Zachary Neel, and the hosts of The Flock Pod, JD Pluid, and Shane Potter. Essentially, the trio goes through the Oregon roster and drafts unheralded players who may blow up over the season. If you were to think about it as buying stocks, the goal is to buy as low as you can and watch that stock — or player — grow and mature over the season. We did this last year and found great success. Here are the draft results from a year ago... 2023 Oregon Stock Draft: Picking unheralded Ducks with ‘The Flock Pod’ DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Once again, @ZacharyCNeel got together with the boys from @TheFlockPod to go through an Oregon Ducks stock draft. Big Ten ‘committed to nine’ conference games, maintaining Flex Protect Plus football scheduling model with additions of Oregon, Washington Four weeks since it accepted an invitation to join the Big Ten, Oregon is still awaiting details on its 2024 football schedule. The Ducks, who have four nonconference games scheduled in 2024, can rest assured that they won’t be required to break any of those contracts. Oregon will continue to play rival Washington, which also moves from the Pac-12 to Big Ten next year, but who its other conference opponents will be is still being determined, as UO athletic director Rob Mullens said during an in-house radio interview on Thursday that he did not have details about the new schedule. In June, the Big Ten announced its first divisionless football schedule format for 2024 and 2025 that preserved many of the league’s most significant rivalries in what it called a “Flex Protect Plus” model. The league is “committed to nine (conference games) for the foreseeable future” and will not be abandoning much of what was previously announced, according to Big Ten COO Kerry Kenny. What we know so far about Oregon’s 2024 Big Ten football schedule WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM Oregon will continue to play rival Washington but who its other conference opponents will be is still being determined. -
I am starting this thread for B1G 10 info that will be pertinent to Ducks in 2024. This thread will be kept to one page as advertising only appears on the front page and we want to make as much money as possible for OBDF. This will be a continuous thread which means old posts will be deleted to make room for new ones. Be sure to check in often as we head off to B1G next year.

CB Trikweze Bridges sees chemistry and depth as defensive upgrades heading into week one Plenty of question marks surround the 2023 Oregon Ducks as they embark into another college football season, this year beginning with Portland State at home. Specifically, many of those questions revolve around the defense and the unit's disappointing season a year ago. Rather unfond reactions are exhibited when reminding returning defensive players of the shortcomings against Washington and Oregon State a year ago. With that in mind, a simple yet important question was asked to junior cornerback Trikweze Bridges on Wednesday: How has the defense improved? Bridges, who started every game at cornerback a season ago, smiled before politely answering the media, saying, "I believe that question will be answered for you on Saturday." Gold: Forget the long bomb, Utah showed its might on 2 big defensive stands Well, that didn’t take long. For anyone wondering how Utah’s offense would look on Thursday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium with Cam Rising sidelined for its rematch with the Florida Gators, Bryson Barnes answered the question in about 3 seconds. On the Utes’ very first play of the game, Barnes uncorked a 70-yard touchdown bomb to the aptly named Money Parks, giving the team an early lead it would not relinquish in an eventual 24-11 win. But, believe it or not, that was not Utah’s most impressive play of the game. That was razzle-dazzle, good timing, and a bit of zigging when Utah normally goes zagging, which head coach Kyle Whittingham highlighted in a halftime interview with ESPN’s Holly Rowe, telling her, “We’ve opened up, fairly conservatively the last several years, I figured let’s change it up this year.” Exciting or not, relieving or not, stomach-settling or not — that’s not Utah football. What they did on defense on back-to-back drives in the third quarter? Now, that was Utah football... Offensive Line Spotlight The 2023 Ducks offensive line is shaping up to be drastically different from the 2022 iteration. Four of the five starters, along with offensive line coach Adrian Klemm, departed in the offseason. That is not to say that there isn’t a great group of talent competing for spots on this line. New offensive line coach A’lique Terry is set to begin his first year in charge of this unit, and will try and recreate last year’s magic with a very different group. Terry has previously coached in Eugene during the 2019 and 2020 seasons as a graduate assistant and was aiming to join Dan Lanning’s staff last season, but decided to take the opportunity to coach with the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL. He has previously been the head offensive line coach at the University of Hawaii in 2021, so he is bringing a lot of experience to this group. To assist on the staff, Oregon brought in a 30-year veteran in Mike Cavanaugh, who has spent the last two seasons at Arizona State coaching their line. After losing star center Alex Forsyth, junior Jackson Powers-Johnson is expected to step into that role, which are some very big shoes to fill. Having played center, guard, and tackle last season, he is a very experienced and versatile lineman. The Ducks have four offensive guards that have all started more than 10 games in their careers, so JPJ will have to adapt and move to center in order to get into this starting unit.
