  3. Around the Pac-12: Loaded conference begins farewell tour in search of elusive College Football Playoff bid In a cruel twist of fate, the Conference of Champions will enter its farewell tour in a position to contend for something that has eluded it for the better part of the last two decades. A … well … championship. The Pac-12 is so stacked with talent and top-end teams, it could pose a legitimate threat to the normal cluster of contenders shortly before more than a century of history and tradition are obliterated and scattered across the country. The conference enters the season with five teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25, as the USC Trojans (6), Washington Huskies (10), Utah Utes (14), Oregon Ducks (15) and Oregon State Beavers (18) cracked the preseason poll. Only one conference — the mighty SEC — boasts more (six). The Pac-12 is loaded with star power, featuring a returning Heisman Trophy winner, six preseason AP All-Americans, an impressive list of high-profile quarterbacks and multiple players projected to land in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. Things are so exciting, Deion Sanders couldn’t help but join the party, cowboy hat and all... American record-holder Athing Mu finished a disappointing third in 1:56.61. Nia Akins, who trains with Brooks Beasts in Seattle, finished seventh in 1:57.73. See article for more results... 5. Oregon Football: A dozen juicy prop bets for the Ducks in 2023 The start of the 2023 college football season is less than a week away for the Oregon Ducks, and as the first kick against Portland State fast approaches on Saturday afternoon in Autzen Stadium, football fans across the nation are likely heading to their local sportsbooks and working to get a few futures bets in before the markets close. For those who aren’t familiar with what a “futures” or “prop” bet is, it’s simple. Basically, it’s a wager that has to do with a season-long outcome, rather than a game score or prediction. There are game props as well, which might ask you to wager on whether or not Ducks’ running back Bucky Irving will rush for more or less than 100 yards on Saturday vs. the Vikings, but today we are looking at the long-term wagers. After scouring both BetMGM and Fanduel over the weekend, I gathered a dozen futures and props that concern the Ducks. For Oregon fans, you may want to try and get some money on these soon if interested, because the numbers are juicy... 6. Popular CPF analyst picks Oregon to make the College Football Playoff With the college football season now underway, the time for predictions is coming to a close, and the time for results is beginning. However, I want to highlight one recent end-of-season prediction before we get too far into the 2023 season. On Sunday, Josh Pate of 247 Sports announced his picks to win each Power 5 conference as well as who will make up the College Football Playoff this season. Contrary to the opinion of most analysts, Pate predicted that the Oregon Ducks will not only win the Pac-12 in their final year in the conference but will also make the College Football Playoff as a three-seed. “I think Oregon’s the most underrated team in the Pac-12,” Pate said on his live show. Pate had plenty more praise for the Ducks’ 2023 team specifically about Bo Nix and the defensive line, but he also highlighted that there are plenty of other contenders in the Pac-12 this season saying, “It’s anybody’s ballgame.” One of the reasons Pate values Oregon more than most of the media is his belief in the Ducks’ offensive line. A prediction is just a prediction, but Josh Pate has a pretty good track record when picking games in recent years so it is worth taking note of... 7. Injury Report: Updated news for Oregon Ducks ahead of game vs Portland State As expected, the injury report is short this week as the Oregon Ducks football team prepares for its season opener on Saturday against Portland State. The injury report was quite extensive last season, even before the season began, so it’s refreshing news to know the Ducks are fairly healthy as the 2023 year approaches. Obviously, that’s bound to change as the season goes along, but hopefully Oregon can stay as healthy as humanly possible in 2023 in order to see their true potential. It’s also important that the injury bug stay away in a game with the Vikings, a team the Ducks are expected to handle with ease. 9. PREDICTION: Forecasting a 2024 Running Back to the Oregon Ducks Oregon football has been operating quietly behind the scenes on the recruiting trail. After a strong summer, all eyes are on 2024 Yelm (Wash.) linebacker Brayden Platt, who's set to announce his college commitment on September 4. I logged my prediction for Oregon earlier this summer and he continues to look like he's trending to the Ducks. But now it's time for another prediction on a top Oregon target. Today I'm predicting 2024 Seattle (Wash.) O'Dea running back Jason Brown Jr. to commit to Oregon. Confidence meter: 6.5/10 To access the article from Max Torres, click here.

Now, with the season beginning on Saturday, it's time to see what the analytical model thinks of this Oregon team. The Ducks are currently ranked No. 13 in ESPN's FPI projections, third highest in the Pac-12 behind USC and Utah. 12. Know the Foe: Five Portland State players to know This will be a weekly feature published each week and one of three weekly "Know the Foe" stories" per game week. We'll also educate fans on the opposition using recruiting rankings weekly, while a Q&A with the opposing school's beat writer will complete the "Know the Foe' series. Because, as the headline suggests, it's important to Know The Foe. This week will be different though. Because Portland State is an FCS foe, we won't be looking at their recruiting rankings and the beat writer Q&A will be held one week later as well. Here are five Viking players that will be worth knowing when the teams square off on Saturday afternoon at 12 PM from Autzen Stadium in Eugene. This week's game will be aired on the Pac-12 Network. 13. How will transfers Traeshon Holden, Tez Johnson, Gary Bryant Jr. enhance Oregon Ducks receiving corps? The long overdue overhaul of Oregon’s receiver room began this offseason. The Ducks saw five receivers transfer, though only Dont’e Thornton had more than 100 receiving yards among that group, and replaced them with five other wide outs, including transfers Traeshon Holden, Tez Johnson and Gary Bryant. Oregon hopes the result is a significant upgrade in talent, experience and production that will help take what was a top 25 offense last season into an even more productive and explosive group this fall. 14. A nice article about Bo on Auburn site... Goodman: A tribute to Bo Nix, a sport’s finest showman Here at the beginning of the 2023 college football season, with everything happening so fast, it’s important to take a moment amid all the changes coming for this glorious sport and first offer our sincerest measure of gratitude for those elder statesmen of college football who have dedicated so much of their lives to giving us a form of entertainment that’s so … what’s the right word … unpredictable? Nick Saban? No. I’m talking about Bo Nix, of course, and if you’re wondering why the lede of this column ran on and on and on like a quarterback scramble on fourth-and-long against LSU, then it’s because the combined beauty of those 67 words stand as a metaphor for the length of Nix’s snaking, complicated career. This is a Bo Nix appreciation column because maybe there’s no better way to welcome a new college football season here at what feels like the end of a sport’s greatest epoch than with a tribute to a player whose time in football has spanned some of the most transformative years in collegiate athletics. Is Nix the face of change in college football? No clue, really, but he was once the face of Milo’s Sweet Tea and that feels like ages ago. 15. This is perspective from Portland State site... PORTLAND STATE VIKINGS at #15 OREGON DUCKS The 2023 campaign opens for Portland State Football this Saturday as the Vikings take on FBS #15 Oregon at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. Kickoff is scheduled for noon as the game is televised on the Pac-12 Network. The Vikings begin their season in familiar fashion, taking on a pair of Bowl Subdivision programs before getting to the meat of their schedule and the Big Sky Conference season. PSU comes off a 4-7 season in 2022. The Vikings were 3-5 and seventh place in the 12-team Big Sky. Head Coach Bruce Barnum begins his ninth season at the helm of the Viking ship. He has 38 returning letterwinners, including 14 starters (6o/5d/3st). The Vikings have 31 returning redshirts, 20 with game experience who maintained redshirt status. The Vikings should have a dynamic offense, led by returning JR QB Dante Chachere who, as a pass-run threat in the pocket, had 2,565 total yards and 26 total touchdowns in his first season as a starter in 2022. He is backed up by great depth in the backfield, on the outside and the offensive line. Barnum will continue to call the plays for the Vikings offense while elevating Assistant Coach AC Patterson to the role of offensive coordinator in 2023. The Vikings defense will be led by a pair of veteran coaches as Colin Fry and Mark Rhea will share coordinating duties. Fry, in his seventh season, will be co-defensive coordinator for the defensive backfield, while Rhea, in his third season, will be co-defensive coordinator for the defensive line. Rhea is charged with rebuilding a re-stocked line as the Vikings lost four senior starters from 2022. Fry has quality experience at defensive back while the linebacking crew, also loaded with experienced players, will have heated competition for playing time. 17. Chip Kelly names Ethan Garbers as UCLA's starting quarterback UCLA has hosted one of the larger quarterback competitions coming into the fall with three players vying for the spot previously held by Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Now, Chip Kelly has his man as he has officially named Ethan Garbers as the Bruin’s QB1. In the end, Ethan Garbers won out over Collin Schlee and Dante Moore in Los Angeles. Garbers’ experience at UCLA may have helped him win the job in the end. He has spent the past two seasons with the Bruins after transferring in from Washington. In total, he has seen action as a reserve in a dozen games and has thrown for 599 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions off of 88 attempts. 20. LOOK: Bo Nix Heisman campaign spreads to New York Times It all started with Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix hovering above a street block in downtown New York City a couple of weeks ago. Then the movement spread to Dallas, where Nix could be seen winding up for a deep ball in the larger metro area. Now the Heisman Trophy campaign for Nix has hit the Sunday edition of the New York Times. So will we see the Nix advertisements pop up anywhere else over the next few days leading up to the season? Who knows, but Oregon fans should keep their eyes peeled. 21. On game weeks, we will have a Pregame thread. Usually, these will start on Sunday/Monday as that is when the Pregame articles will start coming out. Because advertising only appears on the first page and we want to earn as much money as possible for OBDF, this will be a continual thread. This means that older articles will be deleted as the page fills up. After the game, I will start a Postgame thread. Be sure to check in often to keep up with the news as we have some big games coming up.
  22. Report: Big 12 'has no intention' of adding remaining Pac-12 members Despite the Big 12 reportedly emerging as a spot for Cal, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington State, Action Network’s Brett McMurphy reported the opposite. The Big 12, which expanded with the additions of Colorado, Utah, Arizona and Arizona State this summer, won’t pursue two more Pac-12 schools for further expansion. Oklahoma and Texas will move to the SEC in 2024, giving the Big 12 a totally new look. The conference also expanded prior to this year by adding new members UCF, Houston, BYU and Cincinnati. “Despite various reports to the contrary, Big 12 has not had conversations w/any of the Pac-4 schools & has no intention in engaging w/those schools, multiple Big 12 sources told Action Network HQ,” McMurphy wrote on Twitter. 23. Former Oregon WR released from hospital after injury scare in preseason game Former Oregon wide receiver Daewood Davis has been released from the hospital and will travel home to Miami, as the Miami Dolphins announced in a statement on Sunday. Davis was taken to a Jacksonville hospital after he was carted off the field during the fourth quarter of Saturday’s contest between the Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars in a very concerning situation after he took a hard hit from Jaguars defender Dequan Jackson while trying to reel in a pass from James Blackman. Jackson was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play. Davis remained motionless on the field after he was tackled, immobilized and carted off of the field before being taken to the hospital. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel and Jaguars coach Doug Pederson agreed at that point to stop the game with over 8 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
