Texas Blocks Ohio State Game-Time Change...
GatOrlando replied to GatOrlando's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I get what you're saying Jon, and I can't get behind what Sankey thinks the playoffs should be. I personally believed the playoff should've been eight from the start. It was mind-blowing that there were five power programs and Notre Dame( they're special) but only four spots. I can't get into that again though. I hate the static scheduling the SEC does. Meaning each SEC team plays the exact same conference schedule in consecutive years but the home field is flipped. My reason for creating this topic was to point out a concerning trend with teams backing out of series like Nebraska did to Tennessee within ten months of the game to be played, and SEC teams refusing to play nine game schedules but still saying they deserve more respect because top to bottom the league is tougher. Texas is running from a home away game but insisting that Texas gets to host a night game next year. What if Ohio State says no? -
It appears the Texas Longhorns are more than happy to play at Ohio State at Noon. Their reason? Well apparently it's because the AD doesn't want to play Sunday night because of personal reasons. I won't mock him for his reason because I understand. However I doubt it's true because Texas has played on Sunday before. Plus Texas has a private jet that could get him from Austin at 2 pm and get to Columbus in two hours. We love football in the South and we have traditional beliefs. But I've never hear of an AD making millions blow so much smoke. Texas is no longer burnt orange, they're yellow. I wonder if Ohio State will try something next year because we all know they're very touchy about slights. I'm sure they're still chapped about Oregon beating them last year off what they call a cheap play, but it was actually Lanning knowing the rules. I heard the Oregon at Penn State game will be a 7pm btw. That's going to be an awesome environment. Oregon should wear all black and come out to the Darth Vader theme.

It's silly season. Just like I won't get too high or low on who committed or who deccommited until the guys are suiting up against Miami. I won't be looking at playoff projections or matchups until Florida is in the top 10 come November. That would mean the team has proven itself against somebody. I'll let FSU fans celebrate a preseason top 10, then they go on and win a grand total of two games.

It's a Power 2 World, and OBD is Living in It!
GatOrlando replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I've lived out in Arizona for twelve years now and I can honestly say I've heard about ASU football maybe four times in totality. Two of those came when Oregon was ranked number one or two and they had to travel to Tempe. There was the one year the Devils won the Pac 12 South and got pummeled by Stanford. The fourth was this past year when they got a bye and nearly made it to the Semis, but they let Texas score on a fourth and twelve and lost in overtime. Should ASU have gotten a bye? How about Boise with their zero top 25 wins? ASU lost to Cincy by two touchdowns btw. I can subjectively say in a real life seeding that ASU and Boise weren't better than Miami, Alabama, Ole Miss or South Carolina. But I'm glad they got in over those teams. I would prefer to see an undefeated or one loss Boise and a two loss conference champion in ASU get their shot. You can't let three loss SEC teams get the nod. You can't let a Miami team that loses to Georgia Tech and Syracuse in. Just don't give the eleven and twelves seeds byes. Heck Notre Dame shouldn't get a bye and reports coming from Jon Wilner say the Irish prefer the home game over the bye. I've heard it from Texas, Penn State and even Ohio State fans(although Tennessee fans had a strong contingency there) that a home playoff game is bigger than getting the bye. Of course Boise and ASU wouldn't get the home games most likely. Clemson might. -

Sadly the Pac 12, Big. 12, and ACC all did multiple things to lead them to their current status. The ACC signed a terrible 12 year television deal that isolated their top programs. The Big 12 gave Texas carte blanche over everybody else, and the Pac 12 arrogantly thought the B1G and Pac 12 were brothers from different mothers. -
CFP Moves to Straight Seed Approach for Byes
GatOrlando replied to HDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Two questions. Why would the ACC and Big 12 give up their last year of having their champions get that by? What the heck does Notre Dame have on the SEC and B1G leaders? Is it NBC pulling something here? Peacock power? -
USC Demands Major Date Change to Keep Notre Dame Rivalry Alive
GatOrlando replied to Annie's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
To people under the age of 30 Notre Dame isn't special. They have cool uniforms, a cool stadium and a cool fight song. The "Here Come The Irish" song is awesome, and Rudy is a great movie and real life story. But outside of all that stuff it's just another big name program. The fact that they are given a seat at the CFP negotiating table should make people question why. If the B1G and SEC froze them out would it damage the playoffs? I'm not for the whole NFL style taking hold, but if it did the one positive might be freezing out Notre Dame and forcing them to make a choice. They've played the system great and I commend them for that. But it's time to stop letting them play everyone for fools. -
Oregon is a power in track and field. UCLA has an awesome swimming and volleyball program. Since moving out West I've discovered the passion for football isn't as rabid, but the depth of the athletic programs out here is second to none. I know what water polo is now. The B1G traditionalist probably has no idea what Olympic sports means as far as it goes with collegiate athletes. I really didn't as I primarily care about football and occasionally basketball if the Gators have a great squad. In the SEC many fans do care about swimming, volleyball, softball and baseball along with track and field. But I personally really only pay attention to those things during the Olympics.
-
I'm not a huge baseball fan. But did you know the last B1G team to win a World Series was Ohio State in 1966? I find that to be an incredible stat. The SEC has dominated with Tennessee, LSU, South Carolina, Texas and Florida all winning titles in the last decade. Heck Bevis, Coastal Carolina, Vanderbilt and Wichita State have won titles since that 1966 season. USC has won numerous titles in that span. The western newbies are going to bring the conference something it hasn't had in my lifetime.
-
I do see and respect the point you're making though. I just hear Penn State being listed as a blue blood and they have the history to back it up. I place the expectations of a traditional power in one of the big two leagues higher than I even do with Nebraska or Texas A&M. People are saying they are the favorites or number one team based off their returning talent, coordinators and what the last two champions have looked like in comparison. Until Franklin wins a game against a team with equal or greater talent, I don't buy into them as a champion. Michigan and Ohio State won big games, at least one a year. Oregon has won at least one or two big wins under Lanning. That's really my entire point. But I do see your's and respect where you're coming from and how you got there.
-
I see your point with what he did at Vanderbilt and I hear the concerns from Penn State people about the financial backing. But I hear Franklin makes ten million a year and he coaches at Penn State. At worst they bring in the fifth best classes in the B1G. But that's still top fifteen, I disagree with Notre Dame being more talented. Notre Dame had one great running back in love and one good receiver in Greathouse. Penn State had a better QB, two great RBs, and a first round TE. Their defense was better up front imo. I don't see the case against Freeman other than his weak regular season. But Franklin beats everybody he's meant to and had the easiest playoff path possible. At some point the excuses have to stop and he has to win a third of his big games. I'm not asking him to even go 50/50. Just win one out of three. You are a ten million dollar coach at Penn State in the B1G.
-
I'll give you Ohio State as they have the highest collective group of five stars and cumulative grading outside of the SEC. But Michigan has been right in the same neighborhood or slightly below Penn State. Oregon really hadn't recruited at the rate they have until Lanning. Under Chip it wasn't about five stars, it was about quickness and a style. Mario Christobal got Oregon into the Penn State and Michigan range which is top 15. Under Lanning it's jumped to Ohio State level, so I'll give you that as well. But Penn State has brought in top 15 classes nine times under Franklin. I don't look at that as a sisters of the poor by any means. Franklin should have more than one career win against Ohio State. He's blown ten point leads going into the fourth against them four times in this recent 8 game losing streak and only beat them the one time off a blocked kick six in 2016. That was an Ohio State team that lost by thirty and went scoreless against Clemson in the playoff. Mario Christobal is clowned on appropriately, but he took an Oregon squad into Columbus and beat them by double digits with a roster loaded with Penn State level talent. I dog on Franklin because he blows double digits games like he's mowing a field full of dandelions with those annoying white seeds. Notre Dame was at or below the Penn State talent level and Freeman was capable of beating him. Freeman led a Notre Dame team into a stretch where he beat Georgia, Penn State and made a comeback against Ohio State. When has Franklin done anything like that? Franklin is a very good coach, but he's known as an elite recruiter. Is he even that if he has considerably less talent every year? How do we judge him fairly if we can't hold him accountable for blowing big game after big game? Where does Penn State football's 2025 recruiting class rank on National Signing Day? WWW.YDR.COM See where Penn State football's 2025 recruiting class ranks across the country and in the Big Ten on National Signing...

I think this matters most. At most you have a starting QB for three years. Nick Saban lost QBs, coordinators, and everybody else just about every two years. He was the cog, Alabama was the rehab stint for guys like Kiffin, Sarkasian and O'Brien. He was the launching point for Kirby, Locksley and MacElwain. Lanning is going to go through the same thing if he continues winning ten plus games every year and wins at least one big game a year. Who has come off a James Franklin coaching tree and been successfully? Joe Moorehead at Mississippi State? What big games has Franklin won in his tenure? 2016 when he beat Ohio State and Wisconsin to win the league. He didn't even finish that year off as he lost to Clay Helton in the Rose Bowl. Lanning had more big wins in one year and has as many conference titles as Franklin already.

I've been reading a few sites talking about the latest batch of rookies are doing so far. As far as the Ducks, I've heard good things about Tez Johnson in Tampa and Dillon Gabriel in Cleveland. I saw Gabriel a bit when he was at UCF and knew the guy had arm talent and decent mobility. He's just short and the knock is he hasn't had to play an NFL offense, he claps instead of using audible cadences. These are knocks on many college QBs. Urban had that issue for years. The analysts are so picky on such little issues that I find it hilarious. There's a video showing Gabriel making two reads and processing the info. Will Oregon have 3 starting NFL QBs this year? Are rookie training camps useful or do you think we won't really find out the mettle of guys like Tez or Dillon when the veterans show up?

30 dollars for one stand-alone is higher than the Hulu+Disney+ESPN+ bundle by ten dollars. It's more expensive than Sling, Paramount, Max, Netflix. Stand alone subscriptions are nice because you can pick and choose what you want, but ESPN alone isn't worth half of what you would be paying for your basic traditional cable subscription. Most of the sports they show are pretty low quality grade imo. I'm not paying that much for the CFP Playoff and some select SEC or ACC games in the Fall. I'd just pay the 70 to satellite or cable and get Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS and ESPN.

College Football's Top 2025 Newcomer Classes
GatOrlando replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Until this transfer portal situation gets cleared up, I can't look at a roster until August and be convinced all the guys on the roster will be season long contributors. An injury to a key starter at a place like Oregon, Ohio State or Georgia would make me nervous if I was a Washington State or Beavis. Washington State has lost it's last two starters at QB in Ward and Mateer. Lane Kiffin has lived in the portal. FSU tried to do the same but old stone faced Norvell butchered it. How can I get excited for a recruiting or transfer class when nothing is set in stone? Until guidelines are put in place and a commitment is a commitment. I will put little faith in class rankings unless it's at a few select places where the coach and program are at a point where you can't transfer to a better situation like Oregon, Georgia or Ohio State. How long until we see trades? Imagine Lanning giving up a future scholarship to Alabama or Texas for a starting CB before a playoff run. -
It's a basketball school. Whatever they get in football is just a bonus.
-
It's a mission to get it for Phil. Anybody who paints that as a negative is just blindly jealous imo.

BB will either be a complete and utter dumpster fire or he'll change CFB forever. Either way I'm intrigued. I don't understand the whole situation with his ummmm .... Personal image manager, but hey man as long as nobody gets hurt, all the power to you. Stanford and California playing in the ATLANTIC Coast Conference is wild just in name alone. SMU essentially buying their way into the P4 and making the playoff in year one was something I didn't see. But I didn't see Boise and ASU getting byes while Texas, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Penn State all had to play first round games. Notre Dame should never ever get a first round bye until they join a league imo. CFB has to hold them to some account of their weak schedule and force them to always pay for that with an extra game. As far as private equity, the Michigan spy scandal and the whole Deion changing Colorado football forever things happening. I would have guessed that players would eventually get paid and the NCAA would butcher it beyond a Friday the 13th film. We all know Michigan won't get the punishment they deserve. They're such hypocrites though, their fan base cheered while USC and Ohio State got wins and seasons erased along with scholarship reductions for doing far less. Michigan used funds and a military tactician to steal signs and it absolutely changed their fortunes. Just look at Jim Harbaugh desperately searching for an NFL gig for two straight seasons. Two of his best seasons ever btw. Have you ever seen a guy coming off a National Title looking to leave that quickly? Have you ever seen a guy with all the talent returning from the prior season to him winning the title look to leave? He's the guy who lied about buying a kid a cheeseburger, he had sleepovers with recruits and he violated Covid rules blatantly. Yet Michigan fans say he the greatest coach ever. Enough with him though. If I had a prediction for the next decade. It would be CFB being almost a clone of the NFL as far as the playoff format and salary cap rules. There has to be structure and that includes a commissioner. Probably a jointly appointed one just over the SEC and B1G head guys. I think Oregon will be the next program to win their first ever title. Clemson broke through and won two in the last decade. Georgia finally broke through for the first time since the 80's. Alabama and Ohio State will continue to roll along. Notre Dame will jump up and grab a title as long as Freeman remains there. Will USC, Miami or FSU finally be back? I don't know. You would think they have all the resources, but it takes big time money from alumni and businesses. Sports fans in L.A and Miami just don't really care as much as fans in Eugene or Gainesville tbh. So I think Oregon will win a title. Texas will as well. Georgia and Ohio State will get at least one. Notre Dame will finally breakthrough if Freeman stays. LSU will find one of those odd years where the Title game is played in the Superdome and Alabama will prove themselves to still be a power. Florida, USC and Miami will finally make a playoff and could potentially fulfill their potential. It might be under different coaches though. The Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans will still be terrible and looking for franchise QBs. BB and Nick Saban will star in a movie called "Grumpy Old Coaches".

As Charles said, I hate the play in game because it devalues the regular season too much. Take the SEC this past year, you would've had Ole Miss, South Carolina, LSU and Florida playing each other for a spot in the playoff. To me that's ridiculous, it was ridiculous to see a three loss team in the field but the ACC was terrible. A five loss Florida team doesn't belong in any sort of playoff. Objectively a three loss Ole Miss, LSU, or South Carolina doesn't either. Would South Carolina be a threat the way they closed out? Probably. Ole Miss was hyped all year but they lost to Kentucky and Florida. They lost that right because the regular season carried weight.

Scott Frost's UCF Contract Deets Revealed
GatOrlando replied to kirklandduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Look at how many first round picks came from the Big 12 compared to the B1G . In total the Big 12 had two first round picks. Oregon, Michigan and Ohio State each had more by themselves. The conference champion ASU had one draft pick in totality. That was in the third round . I can see Scott winning 6-8 games this year. Maybe even challenge for a playoff spot as early as the 4-4-2-2-1-1 model goes into effect. -
Time doesn't stop. Ten years ago today you had Oregon coming off a conference championship and making the first ever CFP Four Team Edition. They won in blowout fashion in the Rose Bowl before meeting Ohio State in the title game. Marcus Mariota won a Heisman and went number two to Tennessee to be their franchise QB. Fast forward and you have Oregon coming off a conference championship. They made the first ever CFP Twelve Team Edition. They played in the Rose Bowl vs Ohio State. Cam Ward was the Heisman runner up and went number one to Tennessee to be their franchise QB. A few things have changed though. How crazy would I have seemed if I told you Oregon won the B1G in their first year. USC, UCLA and Washington also joined the B1G. Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC while Stanford , Cal and SMU were in the ACC. The PAC -12 consists of two programs, Deion Sanders is coaching Colorado and Bill Belichick is in college coaching UNC. Would you believe me?
-
Ah the old role reversal game. A playoff game in Autzen would be quite the sight and I don't think you'd allow 35 percent of your tickets to be bought by the opponents.
-
The Big 12 is one of the most intriguing leagues in CFB. Texas Tech is spending like a B1G or SEC member so they've become a trendy pick. But would it shock anybody if any team emerged to grab a CFP spot? ASU lost to tenth place Cincy last year. As far as Florida goes I'm not in a position to objectively predict where they finish, it's one of the reasons I refuse to ever put them higher. If DJ Lagway is even half as good they are a playoff team. He went 6-1 in his starts and the loss was in a game where he went out while Florida was winning. If this was baseball he wouldn't take the L for a lost lead.
