I was bummed for Dillon Gabriel (and the other players from the South Pacific) that this year’s game in Hawaii had to be canceled. I’m sure that they were looking to play at “home” in front of family and friends.

Please take note, he said his name was “The Duck”, not Puddles during the intro. Hopefully that settles it once and for all.

I can’t wait to see what Oregon’s offense is able to do against the B1G defenses this year. That said, it will probably take years for the majority of B1G teams to transition to modern offenses.

Didn’t Tennessee just flip an Oregon commitment? Must be nice without offering an NIL…

Thanks for the article. The title might be a bit misleading. Perhaps intentionally to be provocative? We can only hope that Oregon is able to establish big leads, forcing teams to be one-dimensional and then getting turnovers. However, I hope that Lanning and Tupoi being the Georgia and Alabama defensive philosophies to Eugene. Those defenses are stacked with NFL talent (their front sevens just look different), relentless and smothering, trying to get the opposing offense off the field as soon as possible. I’ll take the turnovers but, please, no more bend-but-don’t-break defenses. A stop on defense (especially a 3-and-out) and punt is just as good as a turnover, IMHO. NA was also a bit too inflexible and did not adjust his scheme/play calling for the talent on D. I still feel bad for those young corners that he insisted on playing man, who were consistently beat deep series after series (note: they turned into good CBs by their junior/senior seasons, if IIRC). As you pointed out, Lanning and Tosh already proved that they are adaptable in the first season at Oregon. It will be interesting to see how the defense plays this year and if they can continue to make steady progress to Lanning and Lupoi’s vision. GO DUCKS!!!

That has to be alarming to Texas fans. When USC was on top under Pete Carroll, he had Southern California locked down. You have to win your backyard, if you want to remain a top team in a fertile recruiting ground.

I just wish Oregon was allowed to retain 100% of its bowl/college football playoff earnings, if we had to take a 50% share of the TV distributions.

As I mentioned, the reporter (probably an Ohio State beat reporter) was asking Dillon Gabriel leading questions during the interview. I don't think his interest in Ohio State was as much as the articles are making it out to be. Given the Marcus Mariota/Hawaii tie and seeing what Bo Nix was able to do as a transfer QB on Oregon's system, I wouldn't doubt that Oregon was his preferred destination. Dillon Gabriel seems to be extremely happy to be a Duck!

I listened to the interview at the B1G media days and the reporter was really leading Dillon Gabriel. Not sure how serious he considered Ohio State.

If true, I’m fine with him going elsewhere and I’m sure that our coaches are, as well. He might be uber talented but we want players who want to be at Oregon and aren’t here only for the NIL money. The goal is to win a national championship. We need talented players who are all in, are good teammates and willing to work their tails off. GO DUCKS!

If Coach Lanning can bring a national championship to Eugene, he will be legendary at the University of Oregon. (I could care less about how he is perceived nationally.)

I’m hoping Dan Lanning can be Florida States’ Bobby Bowden (without the off-the-field issues) or Duke basketball’s Mike Krzyzewski. As someone said: “Why follow the legend, when you can BE the legend?!”

The Beavers are going to be at a severe competitive disadvantage, going forward. OSU is going to have a mid-major roster and will not be able to afford to retain a top coaching staff. That said, they will be dangerous, especially in Corvallis.

USC’s over/under is 7.5. If I were a betting man, I’d go with the over. I think 10 wins is a stretch but believe 8 or 9 wins is possible, if the defense improves even slightly.

I think that USC will do a little better than expected. Riley is a really good offensive coach and their DC should be able to improve the defense. The issue is recruiting and Riley’s ability to meet USC football expectations.

Coach Stein has to be salivating over how he will be able to use Tradarian. He is fast (10.51 100M), shifty and has great hands (you can line him up in the slot, out wide or have him catching passes out of the backfield). Very exciting weapon to have on offense and I expect him to be the lightning to Jordon Davison’s thunder. Very exciting times. GO DUCKS!!!

Back in the day of network TV broadcasting, only the top college football teams were featured on TV. With the proliferation of cable and steaming, every program of note will have a chance to be featured resulting in exposure for the players (for family and NFL scouts). Therefore, I do not expect the same roster stacking as before. You don’t need to got to Alabama, Notre Dame, USC, et al to get exposure to have a shot at the NFL.

Getting the #1 recruiting class would be nice, but it’s more important for Coach Lanning to get the right players with the right attitudes and work ethics.

I saw the interview as well. Lanning clearly is very thankful for all the coaches he has worked under. Below is the quote, per CBS Sports: "I think it's impressive that guys like Kirby have been signing the No. 1 class in the nation without any NIL money this entire time," Lanning said jokingly. "Obviously, Coach Smart took a little shot at us. If you want to be a top 10 team in college football, you better have great support. We have that."
