The NFL has a salary cap and splits TV, merchandise and licensing revenues equally. What you are describing is more like MLB. One model creates an unequal playing field for those in the largest cities, while the other promotes parity. If I were in charge of the NCAA, I know which model I would prefer.

I don't understand why the ACC would agree to add Stanford and/or Cal without additional TV dollars for the existing schools, given the additional travel costs. The schools that are opposed to expansion want out of the conference.

Even as a fan of a rival team, you hate to see these season ending injuries to these young men. I want to beat the Huskies on the field, best on best (no excuses). I hope that both players are able to fully recover and come back stronger next year.

Unlike Joey's poster, neither of the Bo Nix billboards mention the Heisman. This is about promoting your players and program, and will show future recruits what Oregon is willing to do to for them. Perhaps this was part of Oregon's pitch to Bo for him to come back for his final year? The purpose of advertising is to draw attention to your brand and/or product. Given people are talking about the billboards are proof that they are effective.

Ohio State recruits with the best in all of college football (e.g., Alabama, Georgia) and it's going to be challenging for Oregon to catch them, until we win a National Championship (or two), IMHO. Since the B1G is a coast to coast conference, I expect our recruiting pipelines to improve in the mid-west and northeast. Lanning and company have done a really good job recruiting Texas. I wonder if we'll need to schedule some home-and-home series with some of the Texas schools to keep that pipeline going. That said, Southern California will always be crucial to Oregon's success, and it's great that we ruined USC's recruiting pitch by joining the B1G. Fight on!

Apple overplayed their hand and ended up with nothing. In negotiations, you always try to figure out what the other side wants or at least what they are willing to settle for. If I’m Oregon (or Washington) there is no way that I agree to a 100% streaming option, at this point in time, with no linear TV coverage. National exposure is still too important (e.g., for recruiting - the lifeblood of a college program). One or both programs might have been willing to entertain Apple’s offer, if there was a linear component (or if Apple or Amazon was offering Saudi level money…) The PAC-12 commissioner should have known this too and shame on him for not coming to the schools with options. He and the consultant he hired were terrible and put the final nail in the PAC-12 coffin.

They should put up another one in Auburn, Alabama. LOL.

The University of Oregon leadership has a fiduciary responsibility to the University of Oregon. Joining the B1G was a no brainier, given the instability of the Pac-12 conference, media deal with no linear exposure and the future of college athletics featuring 2 super-conferences. It's sad that a 100+ year old conference came to an end but it is a result of years of poor leadership and decisions. The move to the B1G ensures years/decades of continued financial independence for the University of Oregon athletic department, national exposure/relevance and access to the college football playoffs. The future media payout and exposure will enable Oregon to continue to compete at the highest levels of college athletics.

Cristobal and staff chased recruiting stars, instead of doing the hard work of evaluating talent. We all know that the previous staff was not good at player development or in-game coaching, and dodged a bullet when Mario bolted for Miami. I'm optimistic that the current staff is not only signing 4/5 star players but are also signing some 3 star players who they believe have some upside. Time will tell if they can develop the talent that they sign. As Charles mentioned, the transfer portal has changed the game and the recruiting services need to figure out how to incorporate transfer players into the team's overall recruiting ratings (not that Lanning and staff cares).

Oregon won the final Pac-10 football title and the first ever Pac-12 football title, so winning the final Pac-12 football title has a nice symmetry about it...

What other choice did Oregon have? It sounded as though Oregon preferred to stay in the PAC but the media deal was atrocious ($10M less per year vs. the Big XII with no linear TV coverage). If we stayed, Oregon’s program would have been on a steadily declining path to irrelevance. No, thank you.

Thanks for the welcome. Hopefully, Oregon does not adjust its style to fit the B1G. Our goal is to win a national championship so that means building a program capable of beating the top SEC teams. We tried the “3 yards and a cloud of dust” with the prior coach and it did not work out well (other than the victory over tOSU in the shoe). Hopefully Dan Lanning and company can get the defense on the same level as the offense.

It’s a sad day for a West coast college sport fan. I was hoping that the PAC could land a TV agreement that was at least on par with the Big XII and stay afloat. The Apple deal carries too much risk for the future of Oregon athletics, with the lack of linear TV coverage for exposure (e.g., recruits, pollsters, fans). I’m not sure that this new college athletic landscape is sustainable. Geography does matter. Hopefully Cal and Stanford will be added to the B1G to form a west coast pod in the not too distant future.

Bill’s entire premise is false. There are many programs who are in different conferences that maintain an annual rivalry game (e.g., Florida/Florida State, Georgia/Georgia Tech, Clemson/South Carolina, USC/Notre Dame). Why couldn’t Oregon and Oregon State do the same? Buy out some of the OOC games in the next couple of years to make it happen sooner.

Oregon State and Washington State belong in the Mountain West based on the size of their stadiums, location, fan following, recruits and on field success. They would have a better shot at the playoffs in another conference.

There is a lot of blame to go around for the demise of the PAC-9/10/12 but I’m not sure how you could blame Oregon unless you expect UO to sacrifice tens of millions of dollars per year in revenue, TV exposure and consequently a steadily declining program. That is a lot to ask a program, who has invested heavily over the years, to sacrifice to save the conference and I’m not sure if that would even be enough since every program is now looking out for their own interests. Arizona is likely gone and the remaining 4 corner schools are likely to follow. I would place the blame on the following (in no particular order): • PAC-12 Leadership: Larry Scott and the PAC-12 CEO Group • Fox and the LA schools for stabbing the PAC-12 in the back • ESPN and the other media networks for lowballing and locking the conference out of linear TV • Other PAC-12 programs for not investing in the success of their football programs to create more national/regional interest Right now the decisions are being made by B1G and Big XII, not by Oregon.

The rumors were that the B1G wanted USC and Oregon initially. Fox wanted UCLA for the LA media market.

This would be my hope as well. It would preserve traditional rivalries, while adding some intriguing new match-ups and cutting down on travel. Oregon and Washington could schedule annual home-and-home with the state schools to preserve those rivalries.

The UCLA fans/alumni that I know are not happy about the move but are also aware how much their AD needs the money. The USC alumni that I know seem to be thrilled about the move and do not mind that they stabbed their former conference mates in the back.

I would hope that Oregon is exploring every potential option from staying in the Pac to joining another conference (B1G, Big XII, SEC) to forming an alliance/merger with the ACC to going independent. It’s clear that leadership will not come from the PAC-12 commish or CEO group.
