  1. 4-star QB Air Noland puts Oregon Ducks among top schools When it comes to the quarterback position, the Oregon Ducks are still actively working to get their guy in the 2024 class. There is some positive momentum on that front, though, with 4-star QB Air Noland announcing his top schools on Saturday and keeping Dan Lanning’s squad in the mix. Noland is rated by 247Sports as the No. 55 overall player in the 2024 class, and the No. 7 quarterback. He has yet to take a visit to Eugene, but that will likely change in the coming months. Outside of Noland, the Ducks are also expecting a visit from 5-star QB Dylan Raiola for the annual spring game, and they also have some positive momentum when it comes to the recruitment of 4-star QB Michael Van Buren and 3-star QB Luke Moga. 6. One School Leads for Elite CB Miles Lockhart Entering Spring Miles Lockhart is one of the defensive backs out West and has been on Oregon's radar for a long time. Including Oregon, Lockhart said he's hearing the most from a trio of schools. "Oregon, Utah and Ohio State. Those are the three that come after me the most. That's why they're my top three cause I'm just really big on relationships, how they treat me. If you treat me good I'm gonna want to be at your school and come after you guys as well." He has a few schools in mind for visits this spring, with one being a recent offer in January. "I have Ohio State locked in for April 10 for spring practice and I'm trying to make it up to Oregon actually or maybe their spring game or just a practice," Lockhart said. "Just trying to figure out those dates. I may also go up to Wisconsin as well, go check out a practice and get a little visit in." Sprague is rated by 247Sports as the No. 133 overall player in the 2024 class, and No. 12 OT in the nation. 9. Where Ducks' 2024 recruiting class stands after rankings shake-up While we get settled in the middle of the spring football season for the Oregon Ducks, recruiting is starting to pick up across the nation. Already we have seen a number of high-profile visits to Eugene over the past couple of weeks, and more will continue to take place as Dan Lanning and his crew ramp up for the annual spring game on April 29. Another thing that recently took place in the recruiting world is a rankings update across the board. Both 247Sports and On3 recently went through and updated where the top prospects in the 2024 class stand both in the Top247 and the On300. So where does that leave the 5 players who are currently committed to Oregon? Let’s take a look. 10. Spring Check in: Recruitment Ramping up for Brandon Baker This spring will be an important one for the nation's No. 1 offensive tackle. The Oregon Ducksare still looking for their first commitment along the offensive line in the 2024 class. Fortunately, there's no shortage of options for A'lique Terry, particularly out west and in the state of California. Santa Ana (Calif.) 11. Ducks pick up prediction to land 4-star OT after weekend visit It appears that new Oregon Ducks offensive line coach A’lique Terry is putting in some work early on in his tenure. One of the main reasons Terry was brought to Eugene in order to take over for Adrian Klemm, who left for a job in the NFL with the New England Patriots, was to keep the high level of recruiting up on the offensive line. So far, it appears that’s working. After a big visitor weekend in Eugene, the Ducks have picked up a prediction to land 4-star offensive tackle Bennett Warren, a 6-foot-7, 315 pound player from Texas. 12. Experts say Pac-12 really could have used BYU when it comes to media rights negotiations The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel, Forbes’ Jim Williams sound off on the value of BYU in TV negotiations, expansion When the Big 12 added BYU, it may have made all the difference in the muddled world of college football media negotiations we have been witnessing with the Pac-12 the past nine months. The Pac-12 is losing UCLA and USC and considering expanding to help in negotiations with Apple, Amazon and other potential media partners. The 10 remaining teams have vowed solidarity. Last week presidents at Utah, Arizona and Arizona State made positive public declarations of hope that all will be just fine and negotiations will conclude very soon. The Pac-12 presidents passed on adding BYU eons ago and repeated that in 2010 when Texas and Oklahoma turned down invitations that ultimately went to Utah and Colorado. It became very clear in the past two decades that the Pac-12 did not want to include a religious institution like BYU, declaring “cultural fit” and “research institution” qualifications in its exclusivity decisions. But from a purely athletic and football brand perspective, many experts are now declaring that was a shortsighted move by the “Conference of Champions.” One that is costing them now. Interesting take if we had added BYU. As we all know, It's the would-of, could-of, should-of syndrome of the Pac-12's shortsightedness, one of many. The Pac-12, at this point, is trying to find a way to get the best deal possible. Hopefully with a short contract. If it seems best to add SDSU and SMU (religious institution) to the Pac-12, in 5 years time could boost the conference in their growth. SMU is financially very well endowed. Next contract down the road could find more realignment with Oregon and Washington going to the BIG, or Pac-12 conference grows stronger. Either way we need to get through the next 5 years. 13. Andrew Marchand on Pac-12 Media Rights Negotiations: ‘It’s a Dicey Situation’ 'All though it is coming from Marchand, Interesting that Heartland, which covers BIG 12 Sports, is all over this.' The Pac-12 has been in ongoing media rights negotiations since last summer, and time is starting to run out for the conference to get something done. Pac-12 schools currently receive $21 million annually from their deal with Fox and ESPN, which expires on July 1, 2024. That means, the conference is just over a year out from having no representation for its televised events, which sounds like a long time, but in the media rights world, the clock is nearing 11:00 p.m. There have long been reports that the Pac-12 was set to have a substantial meeting on Tuesday, March 21, but that meeting was rescheduled to Wednesday, March 22 for undisclosed reasons. Perhaps a deal is close for the conference and George Kliavkoff needed a few more hours to finalize the terms? Or maybe, and perhaps more likely, there’s just not much on the table right now that is going to excite Pac-12 school presidents and CEOs. In a recent episode of The Marchand and Ourand Sports Media Podcast, Andrew Marchand spoke about the situation that the Pac-12 finds itself in with monumental meetings coming in the next few weeks. Phillipina Kyei's improving shot-blocking prowess, and more Oregon WNIT storylines Phillipina Kyei admits she was confused by how Rice's players chose to attack her with such consistency and fervor in Monday's WNIT second round game. The 6-foot-8 center swatted away two Owl shots in the first quarter and yet they kept on coming, allowing for her to block two a quarter for the game's duration to finish with a career-high eight blocked shots — the 10th most in program-history. "It started as one block and then the energy kept going from there. They kept driving so I didn't really know what to do," Kyei said with a nervous laugh after the 78-53 win. Swatting a shot in front of a home crowd is the pinnacle for many bigs, and Kyei is no different. Sending a shot into the stands and the glow the crowd provides after is unparalleled, she said. Newport Harbor junior wide out Jordan Anderson is the latest four-star prospect added to the 2024 Polynesian Bowl. It’s a really strong year for wide receivers in the California ’24 class and Anderson is one of the very best, not just locally but nationally as well. He’s a player we’ve been watching for a couple of years now and gets better and better every time we see him. In 12 games last season, he finished the year 47 catches for 984 yards (20.9 ave.) and 13 touchdowns. He added 38 tackles while playing part time duty as a defensive back and has the skill set to play on either side of the ball in college but wide receiver is his meal ticket. “I”m really excited about this opportunity, I’ve been wanting to play in the Poly Bowl for awhile now,” Anderson said. “I was actually going to go to the Poly Combine just to try and make it so to receive the invite now is a blessing. On the recruiting front, Anderson has already locked in his commitment to Oregon and still feels very good about the Ducks. “I still love Oregon, my commitment is very strong,” Anderson said. “I love everything about the program. I love the the team, the players, the coaches and the Oregon brand. “I love the fan support and the football program in general and where it’s going. 25. The college sports world is waiting to see what happens with the Pac-12 Conference as it tries to negotiate a new television contract. It’s the last of the Power 5 leagues to sign a deal beyond the middle of this decade and has been in a state of flux for the last several months. Brett Yormark the Big 12 Conference beat the Pac-12 to the open market to lock up their next television deal last fall and ever since then, the Pac-12 hasn’t had the market for its product that league leadership thought it would. After last week’s media tour from some Pac-12 presidents, another one spoke on Monday. University of Utah president Taylor Randall said on Salt Lake City radio that media rights talks “still got a ways to go”, however said that there is “solidarity” amongst the Pac-12 members. Randall said on The Bill Riley Show, “There’s been a lot of comments from the media about how this is taking a long time, but it’s really that we started a year earlier than expected. So on our end, as Presidents, we’ve been really patient with the negotiations because they’re happening on an advanced timeline and will be done ahead of the original schedule regardless of when it comes through. I think we’re in a good spot, and I like what I’m hearing out of the President’s office both in terms of compensation and in distribution. I think we’ve still got a ways to go, but I think we’ve got solidarity in the President’s room of the remaining schools in particular. I don’t talk to a President from one of the remaining schools who’s not confident in the deal that’s being worked on.” Randall becomes the latest in a list of Pac-12 presidents who have spoken to media in recent days. The transcript of the interview can be found here on Reddit. Utah President on Future Pac-12 Media Deal: 'Still Got a Ways To Go' WWW.HEARTLANDCOLLEGESPORTS.COM The college sports world is waiting to see what happens with the Pac-12 Conference as it tries to negotiate a new television contract. It's the last of the Power 5 leagues to sign a deal... I added the following articles here as well since it's on the Media Deal: Report: Pac-12 TV Deal Could Change Depending on Apple’s Timeline “For the Pac-12 to reach the $300 million per year mark to basically match the deal the Big 12 received from ESPN and Fox Sports, the most likely platform to pay that at this point would be Apple, as we reported last month,” Andrew Marchand writes. “To be clear, we aren’t saying that is happening, but Apple is the company that could potentially reach that number, and adding Pac-12 rights does fit what Apple seemingly is trying to do in sports. But it figures to be an all-Apple deal.“ The problem is, Apple isn’t in a hurry to get anything done and the Pac-12 has been saying that something is coming down the pike by the end of the month. When Apple doesn’t jump, because it doesn’t for anyone, what is Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff going to try and sell to his member schools’ presidents? Report: Pac-12 TV Deal Could Change Depending on Apple's Timeline WWW.HEARTLANDCOLLEGESPORTS.COM We are just 11 days from turning the calendar over to April and the Pac-12 still hasn't locked in a television deal for the future. The most suitable buyer for the Pac-12 product, Apple, hasn't been in... Will Amazon Or Apple TV + Offer The Pac-12 Deal They Can't Say No To? If we are to believe what we read in trade publications the Pac-12 new media deal is in the works with ESPN, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV+ presently left at the table. What we have been able to read from the tea leaves is that the conversation about a possible deal is one that is heavy on streaming distribution over a more traditional model of liner TV. In a perfect world Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff would have CBS, ESPN, Fox, NBC and maybe even a streamer like Amazon or Apple taking part of the package. Kliavkoff, does not live in that world his options remain dealing with Apple, Amazon, and ESPN which means a strong possibility of more streaming and fewer games on traditional outlets. Will Amazon Or Apple TV + Offer The Pac-12 Deal They Can't Say No To?
