An Oregon Ducks Fan Guide to the Big Ten Conference
All about the Northwestern Wildcats Comedians, actors and journalists of renown have all made their way through the Northwestern University campus, located just north of the bustling metropolis of Chicago. The only private university in the Big Ten before USC joins up later this year, NU is one of the conference’s founding members. While the Wildcats are still picking up the pieces in a football program plagued by scandal, and outside of lacrosse don’t boast many team national titles, the school’s investment in sports is arriving at a new peak. And you’re bound to hear about many of the developments, given the number of sports writers and broadcasters who hail from the school. As the Oregon Ducks prepare for a move to the Big Ten in 2024, The Oregonian/OregonLive is taking a look at all of their newest conference rivals. While Ducks fans might be deeply familiar with fellow Pac-12 departees Washington, USC and UCLA, they have 14 new teams to get to know this year. Next up is Northwestern. Ducks Land Two Projections to Secure Commitments from Blue-Chip Players in 2025 Class
The Oregon Ducks have been off to a hot start on the 2025 recruiting trail, sitting with one of the top classes in the nation and coming off of a couple-weekend stretch where they hosted some of the most coveted players in the nation. One of the players that visited — 4-star EDGE Nasir Wyatt — is really starting to trend Oregon’s way. The blue-chip defender from Mater Dei down in California has been projected to land with the Ducks, with a few 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions coming in earlier this month from Steve Wiltfong, Brandon Huffman, and Greg Biggins. On Wednesday, 247Sports analyst Tom Loy also put in a prediction for Wyatt, the No. 2 EDGE and No. 27 player in the 2025 class, to choose Oregon. Loy also placed another Crystal Ball prediction on Wednesday, saying that 4-star safety Jadyn Hudson is likely to commit to the Oregon Ducks as well. Hudson is rated as the No. 8 safety and No. 96 overall player in the class. At the moment, Oregon has the No. 11 class in the 2025 cycle, but if they could add both of these players, Dan Lanning would be well on his way to securing another top-5 ranked class this year. College Football Coach Rankings: Kirby Smart, Ryan Day Highlight Top Coaches Five Years from Now
He did make a mistake as far as Oregon's 2023 win record. Was 12 win season unless he's not counting the bowl game. It’s a new era of college football, and the transfer portal, NIL and conference realignment have forced the nation’s premier coaches to adapt. Coach rankings for the 2024 season have the usual suspects at the top, but who will reign supreme five seasons from now? National recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna weighed in recently on the Football Recruiting Podcast. Several factors went into these rankings. Petagna looked at the coaches with the most noticeable momentum coming out of the current season and whether they’re poised to build off it thanks to strong results on the recruiting trail. The program leaders best adapted to NIL and the transfer portal found their way into the rankings. Age was also a big factor and kept guys like Brian Kelly, Willie Fritz and Mike Gundy from making the cut. Petagna saw value in several other coaches who didn’t make his top five, including Hugh Freeze (Auburn) and Lane Kiffin (Ole Miss), who barely missed the cut. He also shouted out Kalen DeBoer (Alabama), Marcus Freeman (Notre Dame) and Eli Drinkwitz (Missouri). Here are college football’s top five coaches five years from now: College football coach rankings: Kirby Smart, Ryan Day highlight top coaches five years from now 247SPORTS.COM Who will be the top coach in college football in five years? 247Sports Crystal Ball Pick: West Coast Safety to Oregon
This is behind a paywall, but I could see this portion of it. The 247Sports Crystal Ball is a tool recruiting analysts use to show exactly where a recruit might end up. On Wednesday, a new prediction went in regarding a top target potentially landing with the Oregon Ducks. As it stands today, I believe Oregon is the team to beat for Pittsburg (Calif.) high school four-star safety Jadyn Hudson. My Crystal Ball is on the Ducks. Over the weekend, I was in Las Vegas for “The Next Ones” event presented by Nike Football. I was able to sit down and talk with Hudson for a few minutes. My biggest takeaway was that head coach Dan Lanning, his stability, the fact that he chose to stay in Eugene instead of leaving for Alabama, is the driving factor here. The 6-2, 175-pounder loves the Ducks and is fired up about a potential future there, but knowing that Lanning is not likely to leave anytime soon is really hitting home for Hudson. Ohio State and Tennessee are the two heavy-hitters also in play, but it’s tough to see the Ducks missing on the West Coast standout. 247Sports Crystal Ball pick: West Coast Safety to Oregon 247SPORTS.COM The 247Sports Crystal Ball is a tool recruiting analysts use to show exactly where a recruit might end up. Former Pac-12 Schools Likely to Still Play in Bowls With Pac-12 Tie-Ins
The 10 schools leaving the Pac-12 likely will still play in Pac-12 affiliated bowls the next two seasons and not in bowl tie-ins with their new conferences, sources told Action Network. The former Pac-12 schools are not expected to play in bowls with their new conferences for multiple reasons, conference and bowl sources told Action Network. The contracts between the conferences and the bowls don’t end until after the 2025 season. With only Oregon State and Washington State remaining in the Pac-12 in 2024, the six bowls with Pac-12 ties could not be filled without drawing from other conferences. Because of the mass exodus of Pac-12 schools, all the stakeholders involved are seeking a temporary solution until the new bowl contracts begin in 2026, sources said. “Out of a series of not-great options, the most workable — short of blowing up the bowl system and the (35 non-playoff) bowl contracts — is to have the former Pac-12 schools sent to Pac-12 bowls for two more years,” a source said. https://www.actionnetwork.com/ncaaf/former-pac-12-schools-bowl-tie-ins?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=BrettMcMurphy

College Football Bowl Projections: Our Expert’s Early Predictions for 2024
Remember, this is just for fun. Even though, cough cough "click bait"🙄 is not happening here. Projected number of teams per conference: 4 Big Ten 4 SEC Notre Dame 1 ACC 1 Big 12 1 Group of 5 Why release my never-too-early 2024 bowl projections in February, while several critical details impacting the bowl system are still pending? For example, where will former Pac-12 teams be placed, or how many automatic conference championship bids will be included in the new 12-team playoff? Some skeptics and conspiracy theorists will claim this is all a ploy to get clicks — "EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Taylor and Travis abducted by UFO after Super Bowl party." Google, are you seeing this!? "Taylor and Travis engaged! Pregnant?!?" I, for one, am offended by those baseless accusations. This is simply continuing a tradition like no other — "Tiger Woods joins LIV Tour for $5 gazillion" — here at Action Network in providing the best bowl projections on the planet, no matter what month it is. #TAYLORSWIFT #SUPERBOWL #ENDOFWORLD This season marks the debut of the 12-team playoff, as chosen by the College Football Playoff selection committee. The Cliff Notes version: the five highest-ranked conference champions — regardless of ranking — receive an automatic bid to the playoff with the final spots going to the remaining seven highest-ranked teams. The four highest-ranked conference champions receive byes into the quarterfinals and will be seeded Nos. 1-4 regardless of their ranking (yes, even if they're “ranked” No. 3, 5, 12 and 24.) Onto my never-too-early 2024 bowl projections, along with the projected point spread of each matchup from Action Network senior writer Collin Wilson’s power betting ratings. *Conference champions projected to receive automatic bids https://www.actionnetwork.com/ncaaf/college-football-bowl-projections-early-predictions-2024

For the Oregon Ducks, a move to the Big Ten Conference will have us enthralled as we try to figure out where they stand among their new foes, and how quickly they will be able to find success in the new landscape. This past week on the Sco-ing Long Podcast, I had the pleasure of talking to Dan Rubenstein, a well-respected football voice who is the co-host of the Solid Verbal College Football podcast.
