  1. Oregon Makes Big Impression on Kamar Mothudi During Visit Oregon offered Mothudi in January and is moving up quickly in his recruitment. 024 Valley Village (Calif.) Campbell Hall linebacker Kamar Mothudi has become one of the biggest recruits on the West Coast since the turn of the calendar year. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound 'backer was offered by the Oregon Ducks in January and offers from Utah, Nebraska and Michigan weren't far behind. He made it out to Eugene over the weekend and enjoyed practically every part of the visit. "What wasn't a highlight? The whole place was amazing," Mothudi told Ducks Digest. "Obviously the facilities and just being there was awesome, but seeing the players interact with the coaches was really good." The detailed approach from Dan Lanning and his staff really caught his attention. https://www.si.com/college/oregon/recruiting/oregon-makes-big-impression-on-kamar-mothudi-during-visit
  2. Kelly Graves opens door for Kennedy Basham return on Thursday Kennedy Basham may be back on the court on Thursday when the Ducks host San Diego in the Super 16 round of the WNIT. Head coach Kelly Graves indicated that Basham, who has missed the previous two games with a concussion, was able to take the court for the first time since entering concussion protocols last week. "She actually played a little bit today. Nothing live or full contact, but she was actually on the court at shoot-around working," he said after Oregon's 78-53 win over Rice on Monday. "That's something that is good. Those concussions you just never know. I leave that to the medical staff and I trust them. They'll do what's best for her." 3. I happened to be in the Autzen Stadium press box last football season when a small number of dimwit students at the University of Oregon started a vulgar chant aimed at BYU’s football team. I didn’t hear their “fricken**k the Mormons!” refrain from the press box. I learned about it after the game and shook my head. Then, I wondered about the hearts of those students and how embarrassed their parents would be. The following morning, I made note of it when students and administrators at UO apologized to BYU and denounced the chant. At no point did I think football coach Dan Lanning should be suspended. Nor did I think his athletic director, Rob Mullens, should take a week off without pay. But as the French poet Jules Renard once wrote: “Look for the ridiculous in everything, and you will find it.” We sometimes specialize in the unnecessary and ridiculous HB2472 is Exhibit A. But it's time for our state's lawmakers to focus on things more important than trying to turn coaches and athletic directors into babysitters. I agree with Canzano. Initialize laws that make sense. 4. We knew this was coming. ESPN’s latest round of layoffs will have “no sacred cows,” meaning everybody from top on-air people to big-time executives are being scrutinized with the cuts expected to be finalized in the next four to six weeks, The Post has learned. The moves are a part of layoffs that Disney’s CEO Bob Iger announced were coming across all of the company’s units. Last month, Iger said that 7,000 jobs would be eliminated across the board. ESPN layoffs are coming soon — and nearly everyone is vulnerable NYPOST.COM ESPN's latest round of layoffs will have “no sacred cows,” meaning everybody from top on-air people to big-time executives are being scrutinized.

More notably for the Ducks, Tracey shot 43% from deep, taking 4 three-pointers per game. 6. PAC-12 ‘NOT CLOSE’ TO A DEAL WITH ESPN: REPORT Here's the latest opinion surrounding the Pac-12 media deal: "In Terms of what goes down with sports media, Andrew Marchand knows his stuff. If he says a deal isn't close, I'm inclined to believe that's the case. That would seem to go against the recent momentum the conference appeared to be experiencing." Not sure how the outcome will be exactly moving forward with this new media deal. My hope is Oregon will be very shrewd in their endeavor moving forward. Thanks Charles for a great article. I do agree, wanting the Pac-12 to be successful, but they always seem to know how to shoot themselves in the foot. I think the BIG conference will eventually come knocking and Oregon should make the move. 7. Five takeaways from Oregon's first two days of spring practice The first glimpse of Oregon's 2023 football roster came last week, as the program held its first two practices of spring. The team now goes on a two-week break (here's an explanation for why) before reconvening on April 4. Media was able to watch about 18 minutes from both workouts and Dan Lanning spoke following each session as well. These practice opportunities offered limited information but enough to draw some early conclusions. Below are the five things I found most interesting from the opening of spring practice. 12. There is an interesting debate that’s taken place over the past few years when it comes to high school prospects who continue to take recruiting visits to other schools after they’ve already announced their verbal commitment. It’s understandably a topic of conversation that has some real pros and cons, depending on which side of the fence you stand. On the one hand, some people feel that a prospect, although verbally committed somewhere, should have the opportunity to get out and see as many schools as they can to make sure that they are confident in the choice that they’ve made. As a coach, I suppose it makes sense that you’d want to feel confident that your player is 100% confident in their decision to come to your school. On the other hand, it feels completely fair that a coach wouldn't want a player who is committed to his team having eyes for other schools. Many would argue that if you still have an interest in looking at other schools, then you may have committed too early in the first place. More mentioned in article below with Lanning's philosophy on the matter. 13. Social Media Buzz: Top recruits, transfer portal players react to weekend visits at Oregon As spring football got going again for the Oregon Ducks this past week, we saw the activity pick up around campus as the recruiting staff got to work and hosted some highly-rated recruits. There were some top high school prospects on campus, like 5-star CB Bryce West and 4-star S Aaron Flowers, as well as USC transfer WR Gary Bryant. While it’s always important to get these types of players to Eugene in the fall so that they can experience gamedays at Oregon, head coach Dan Lanning told me on Thursday that it’s just as important, if not more so, to get them on campus to see practices as well. “Our best pitch in recruiting is when people come and watch that practice and they see the way we work,” Lanning said. “They see how we develop talent and they see how much our guys enjoy practice. So it’s really important for us to take advantage of this beautiful place. Get people here where they can experience it firsthand and see it for themselves.” After the weekend was over, a lot of those players took to social media to reflect on their visit, Oregon Recruiting: Top prospects rave after weekend visit to Eugene DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Some top-rated recruits and high-profile transfer portal players were in Eugene this weekend. 16. Conference sounds tired of the noise. (When you go on Canzano's site to read article, if you get a pop up you should be to click on 'Continue Reading' to see the whole article.) The conference’s public-relations strategy in the last nine months has been puzzling. The silence in Las Vegas last week at the men’s basketball Pac-12 Tournament, in particular, fueled another round of fear-mongering click bait from the Big 12 footprint. I wondered why commissioner George Kliavkoff refused to hold a news conference. But industry insiders cautioned me against banging my shoe too hard on the table. I was told by more than one veteran media-world source that ESPN, FOX, Amazon and Apple likely appreciate that the Pac-12 hasn’t engaged in orchestrated leaks aimed at taking the negotiations public. Decide for yourself if the collateral damage to the Pac-12’s brand over the last nine months is an acceptable byproduct. If the conference gets a good deal, maybe the Pac-12 walks taller knowing it did so while refusing to play a less-dignified version of the PR game.
