Thanks Dazencofused for another great article! I agree with your assessment. Bo Nix's 2021 year at Auburn was his best stats. 61% completion, 7.1 per pass avg., rating of 130. He for sure needs to step it up. What is scary is his single game numbers against against UGA in 2021: 55% completion, 5.7 per passing avg., rating of 98. Against TAM game in 2021: 48.8% completion, 3.7 per passing avg., rating of 75.2. Yikes!
These are some of the reasons, I'm sure, you wrote the article on "Regarding Bo Nix: Beware Bandwagon Buy-In." His production numbers were not stellar.
Hopefully with this coaching staff and a better supporting cast around him, I am optimistic of what you mentioned in this article that he could achieve. I also agree Bo being on a short leash.
I am excited at what this defense will be able to do this year! That will be a difference maker for the offense as well giving them opportunistic in game situations to score. Looking forward in seeing our special team unit this year and what they can produce.
I am betting on this coaching staff giving our young QBs every opportunity to play if Bo is successful, or be the starter if he fails.

I do agree that the Pac-12 should expand, but somewhat disagree who should be the six schools. Here are my choices:
* SDSU - #27 TV market value in the San Diego area, but will give us the foot print to pull Southern California.
* FSU in the #55 in their TV market value. But, can you stretch their viewership to include the Sacramento and as far South as Bakersfield? That is approximately 2.3 million people.
* Houston - Houston is #8 in TV market value..
* SMU - Dallas/Ft Worth is #5 in TV market value. The author does list some compelling arguments to include.
* BYU - BYU is a good brand with a large following. Ranked 21st nationally in academics amongst all universities. Great rival with Utah. They both would draw the Salt Lake City (#30 TV market value).
* UNLV - In this article he failed to mention UNLV is a tier 1 research university. Ranked #40 TV market value, but Las Vegas area is growing. This city is turning into quite a sports mecca.
I would have included other Big 12 schools instead. Instead of SMU I would take TCU. Instead of FSU I would take either Baylor or TT. Instead of UNLV I would take OSU, but their exit fee could be too much. Around 80 mil per school? Houston and BYU might not be have signed the dotted line yet with the Big 12.
It would give us the Pacific, Mountain, Central time zones. Again, hopefully some media deal would include cross-over games with the ACC.
This could make the Pac-12 a strong football and basketball conference. I know we lost millions due to USC and UCLA leaving, but by expanding the conference will have the ability for future growth in value and possibly regain back millions.
Six schools that the Pac-12 should consider adding
WWW.SI.COMThe Pac-12 needs a contingency plan for the days after USC and UCLA and expansion may be the way to go- 2

Loving all these articles. I agree, this should be in the play book to become a perfected end zone play. Always loved the End Zone Fade. As you mentioned, I can't imagine KD not adopting this into the Oregon playbook with the size we have on this team to make it successful.
Here's a youtube showing End Zone Fade plays to go along with this great article. Thanks again, for pointing out this important scoring play.

Yes, we won it in overtime. I love it that Browning went out his last year as QB for Washington losing to our Ducks!

Canzano: Kicking off the Pac-12 in a big way

Yes, Larry Scott did so much damage to the Pac-12. Unbelievable that the presidents/chancellors just stood by and let it happen instead of kicking him to the curb years ago. When they finally did, the damage was done.
It's still hard for me to believe that grabbing the best in the Big 12 and the best in the Pac-12 to form a new conference would not bring them bigger media dollars.
Too bad the following would not work, but I am sure there are too many obstacles in the way to make it happen: TCU, OSU, TT, Baylor, Huston, BYU, Kansas, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Cal, Utah, SDSU, ASU, Arizona
* Biggest TV markets: Bay Area, Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Denver, Seattle, Phoenix
* Biggest Brand: Oregon with Portland TV market
* Utah/BYU with Salt Lake. BYU has a independent national brand rated 21st in academics amongst all universities. Of course we know where Stanford is rated in academics.
SDSU would help bring in some Southern California TV market with San Diego and surrounding areas.
Strike a deal with the ACC in cross games. This would bring in Pacific, Mountain, Central time zones with possible games with the ACC would include Eastern time zone.
The conference would have 9 schools in the top 30 media markets (5, 6, 8, 11, 12, 16, 21, 27, 30) in the nation. Plus the media markets in the ACC with cross games. I would think this could make a strong conference in football and basketball.
This is just my personal opinion. But again, those who have such knowledge think differently.

Here's Canzano's article on Michael Schill. Timing is not good. Hopefully Oregon will find someone who is savvy/big supporter of athletics leading Oregon's future endeavors.

Thank you for this excellent article on DeBoer. I agree with both Notalot's and Wrathis responses. It has opened my eyes in what he can produce, raising his team's on field prowess to a higher level. I decided to call his scheme 'Everything Including The Kitchen Sink" offense.
I do believe in what coach Landing is producing at Oregon. We will always muzzle and put the mutts down!
Yes, I too will root for the Huskies to drag the trojan off his high horse and defeat him!

The origins of what Coach Lanning is doing now--has it's beginnings from the Oregon defense over ten years ago under Nick Aliotti!
I always liked Nick Aliotti. I don't think we appreciated how good of a DC he really was. During the Chip Kelly era the total amount of minutes per game our offense was on the field compare to the defense was big.

Thanks again for a great article! Wow, a healthy defense with all this talent and DL's schemes, looking forward to this year's games!
Looking to see how our front seven stack up against UGA's run game. This defense will give our offense, with KD's schemes, scoring opportunities to capitalize on.
This year's home game against Utah will be a much different game.

It seems to me due to what just took place with the Big 10, Pac-12 should add SDSU which is a no-brainer. Maybe rustle away Houston to join the Pac-12 instead of the joining the Big 12. We could entice maybe BYU, SMU, TCU? Two big city tv media markets, BYU, great athletics, strong fan following, ranked 21st in academics amongst all the colleges, great rival to Utah. 14 schools stretching across 3 time zones.
Or, add SDSU, maybe UNLV or FSU or SMU. Get a deal with ACC for cross games.
Whatever is the best deal possible, GK and university presidents/chancellors need to get this right. They need to get creative the best way possible to get the most for the schools. There should be a flexible easy exit out of the conference and merit incentives.

With the Big 10, Fox Sports tier 1 rights (500 million) NBC 2nd position (380 million), CBS 3rd position (350 million), ESPN out. Interesting read on this situation and about Fox Sports sitting in on the Big 10 negotiation meeting with the other networks. Unusual and uncomfortable.

Haha I knew someone was going with that old saying... this isn't about confidence it's about development.
Last year it was AB who had 28 games experience, Bo has 34 games. The safe bet is to start those guys and it's a huge ask to expect the young QBs to beat them out for the job in fall camp when they have hardly any college game experience. Even if Ty was better some days than Bo, it's always safe to give the Vet the job.
Just because AB was the best QB at the end of fall camp didn't mean that if they went with Ty or Butters they wouldn't have improved during the season to the point they were better than AB. Matter of fact AB's play didn't get better as the year went, he was the same dude.
Bo if he is the starter isn't going to get a bunch better from game one to game six, or game 14. Bo is who he is for the most part, he's developed for three years.
Ty or Butter will improve each week if they play, and you can find out how good they can be as they improve.
If we don't play Ty or Butters this year and then Moore comes in, who is the next transfer we bring in next year with three years' experience? DJ Ulagalelei?
Lastly if Ty or Butters hardly play this year do you think they stay or hit the Portal?
If they stay and we bring in another transfer QB do you think they stick around then?
I agree 100% with what you are saying Daze.
Thank you so much Charles for this article and completely fully agree with your assessment.. My hope and belief we finally have the coaching staff that embraces top notch QB development.

Thanks again Daze for another fun article. Very entertaining! Loved the take on the Slurps and the Mopes at Miami. You've done a superb job explaining the definition of the word 'corch' and MC's connectivity to that word.
MC excelled as a recruiter and brought a supporting cast who recruited well. As a HC he had flaws. Not going to rehash what you already mentioned in your article and other fellow OBD members have mentioned here on those flaws.
Though OBD pointed out the infractions of these flaws during his time at Oregon, we patiently hoped MC would grow, learn, mature and correct these flaws, potentially become the HC/CEO at Oregon we thought he could become. Unfortunately it seemed he was not willing to change. Majority of the time offense became vanilla and predictable.
We are now in the Dan Lanning era! I love so far what I am hearing and seeing about him and his coaching/supporting staff. it's infectious! That you can also see from the players.

Wrinkles for the Irish to consider in their decision making to stay independent or move to the Big 10.
Where is all this going to lead to for the Pac-12? For Oregon and Washington and others, the conference will need to be creative, monetary wise, to entice them from getting restless. My own personal feelings, Oregon should push for an easy early exit clause to leave the conference if the Big 10 should come knocking.
I agree with Canzano, the conference needs to go slow and only make no-brainer moves when looking to expand the conference. Good read on what the Pac-12 is looking into and considering what their plan might entail for the next contract.
