Agreed. I’m not certain the stash act is 100% genuine. Like you suggest he always knew where the cameras were and both he and Mario always seemed to have contrived personas over simply being genuine.

I hope that many members will take the five minutes to read this, ponder it and give me feedback.  Our rules have evolved nicely, but there is a grey area that I am having trouble with and will continue to over time.  It has to do with criticizing current players and coaches, as we allow it and encourage it when it is pertaining to player performance and coaching decisions.

We do not allow anyone to get personal in their posts toward players and coaches.  (This only pertains to current coaches and players; everyone else in the world is fair-game)  The thinking is that since we are a "high-brow" site, and parents do read stuff here about their sons as players....a line should be drawn, and I agree with that sentiment.

    Obvious Examples:

    "Lupoi is a Bonehead."

"Something has always really bothered me about Moorhead. This guy has documented serious health problems and is obese. And he looks like he's 70 years old. Well, he just turned 48!"

“Our basketball players have embarrassing low intelligence.”

“Dan Lanning needs to get a good tailor.  He looks sloppy during press conferences and games. Not anything like a leader of young men should look.  Lanning looks like he should be selling insurance or maybe used cars.”

“So Dillingham brought in a Dodo to lead a flock of Ducks, who are trying to be Eagles. Sounds about right. I wonder who is the bigger Dodo...the Dodo that brought in a Dodo, thinking he had an Eagle or the actual Dodo? Dillingham worked with Nix at Auburn."

Above are actual examples of obvious violations where the OBD member got personal in his/her criticism, and we deleted the posts.  (And the OBD members received a notification/reminder email from me)

    Ty Thompson_Craig Strobeck.jpg

    What is the Problem?

It is the grey areas....as to how far members can go before we cross the line as personal?

"I don't want to see Turnover-Thompson playing anymore."  (I did not like having a label like that pinned on a player...but is it that bad?)

"Please, please, please...Never play Ty Thompson again...Horrible."   (This one is referring to player performance, but still makes me uncomfortable)

"TT is like someone who has an UZI but doesn’t know when to pull the trigger and where to put the bullets."  (This one is also referring to player performance, but doesn't it imply intelligence?)

See what I mean? The three above are much tougher, as I get responses from OBD members who tell me that, "Charles, I can't write anything without being in violation!  Can't I express my thoughts about a player doing poorly?"

Look, I don't want to be blowing my time on trying to establish where the line is...and no matter what I do, someone gets bent-out-of-shape when they get an email from me.

    Leave the Benign Ones?

Most would say that many of my violation emails sent are for benign offenses, and that is true.  But I’ve learned the hard way that the analogy provided by NJDuck is true; you must pull a weed, (remove the violating post) even if it is small and benign.

If you leave it, others on the forum will now see the “new low-bar” and begin doing the same behavior, thus I have more weeds to deal with. And the original one left alone feels emboldened and does the violation again, and thus I have a bigger weed to deal with.

Pull them all, even if benign?  If they break the rules, then it is a violation no matter how high or low the level?  FishDuck Feedback please!

How do you want this forum moderated as both someone who is posting and dealing with me, and as someone reading it?

    From the Rules:

No. 26: Do not get personal in judgments of  the current Players or Coaches: We allow commenting about the current players and coaches as that is what message boards and forums are all about. Second-guessing coaches and judging player performance is what everyone does, but we must not get personal or nasty toward them. Questioning a play-call or whether a tackle should have been made (Performance-related) is fine, and give your thoughts as to why in one direction or the other.

Whether a coach should be retained or a player replaced is also fair-game because they know they are in the public sphere and that goes with the territory. Let's discuss, but Ad Hominem attacks on them are forbidden.

(Former Oregon players and coaches do not have Rule 26 protections once they leave Eugene, as they sometimes do objectionable things that deserve to be called out.)

No such rules with current or former coaches at other teams, their players, their fans, journalists or anyone other than current Oregon coaches and players. So go for it and have fun!

I try to resist Value judgements, criticism of specific actions is acceptable.

One cannot criticize or demean the character of another but may freely criticize a specific behavior or statement of another.

    Example;

    Mario is horrible. -No

    Mario's coaching was horrible -ok.

It’s subtle but valuable technique as the value judgement is irrevocable and a statement of character and action or word specific criticism is more limited
    And directed.

  3. UCLA has a solid physical RB, a good passing game with an experienced QB. They are a formidable opponent.

Add in an improved and successful run defense and UCLA has good reason to concern Duck fans.

This like every game is just another test of the coaches and players. I trust the process. The Ducks are getting better.

So far the Ducks are best at running the ball and stopping the run. That usually matters a lot.

I think this game once again comes down to the Ducks needing above average man coverage and a meaningful pass rush. Both offenses will score points.

Offensively the secondary, like Oregon, is the perceived weakest area for UCLA and Bo needs to be smart and accurate and take advantage of that.

Running the ball well opens the passing game up and with Bo’s running ability in the forefront of Dilly's mind there are innumerable ways to exploit any weakness. The Ducks are explosive and versatile as a result.

I think this week is football 101.  Run the ball, stop the run, pressure the QB. Good on Good

This team is the same players but a very different team from week one. UCLA will be another great measuring stick. Let’s just hope the Ducks aren’t beat with that stick.

  4. I was forced by security to walk in front of the student section and got chew spit dumped on me. Fortunately the Leo’s saw the little twat grabbed him. He resisted and blew his knee out in the process. The cops asked if I wanted to press charges. “No”, but can I say something to him. I said. Every rep in rehab say Quack Quack.

....and Ducks use Horses and mules too!  Lol

There will be times when the coaches and players need to focus for the fourth quarter so I see why Lanning is trying to reel this in.

Oregon was on the door knocking on another touchdown and let's face it the red zone hasn't been good to them.

You hit the nail on the head. They were in the red zone needed to focus, and in fact the song was going on into the snap.

It’s fun but cannot get in the way of winning.

  6. Does the talent on the roster dictates bend but don’t break more than wanting to bend in the first place? Is it a strategy or the result of Jimmy’s and joes?

I suspect that if the Ducks could cover man to man, especially outside, and the Ducks tacked better in space that there would be less bending to start with.

I don’t think there’s much choice when your D line isn’t wreaking havoc and it’s risky to play a lot of single coverage. You do your best and get help from the back line inside the Ted zone.

Dilly made some adjustments going into second half. I think Dilly grew up a bit in that cougs game. He got his 1%. Going forward, KD will be a much better play caller.

    Bingo.

Our Ducks are a young team, not only the players, but also the coaches.

We forget because of recent recruiting upgrades that we are building a new football program with a new coaching staff many of whom are also busting through their own personal ceilings of achievement and experience. Dilly’s a Rook and so is Dan Lanning.

MC is far more experienced but I don’t believe he would have coached like Lanning did or made adjustments or have been nearly as aggressive as dilly and Lanning were. MC likely isn’t throwing it on 4th and 2.

watching the game again shows just how many plays WSU made. Give em credit. Some of the red zone woes were great plays, missed blocks, and calls into their scheme strength.

The players will own what could have been different and I’m pretty confident this staff will too.

Ducks have an powerful improving offense, solid run defense and a kicker.

Looking forward to seeing what each game brings in terms of improvement cause it’s really pretty nice to have a new staff, a rebuilding, year one of a new football program, and be pretty good and improving.

  8. Soooo many unknowns top to bottom, coaches to players alike.

This is a brand new Oregon Football program, one built on some solid successful recent history, some above average recent recent recruiting and a new young staff growing themselves into their newer greater responsibilities with a young team only partially of their own making.

This team looks to be growing almost immeasurably week to week. They have heart. They have size and some speed. They don't get down and play hard.

However I try to remember, optimistic homer that I am, that this Duck team is still filled with underclassmen. This team is still young and growing and learning and still getting stronger.

Each side of the ball is running a different scheme from before and there’s no shortage of transfers in the starting mix. cohesion can take time.

This team isn’t finding its identity as much as creating it week to week.

Georgia set the standard in every facet and since that lesson the team has rebounded.

Oregon has improved in some way every week. Growth mindset?

This week was the type of game that likely made the team believe in each other even more. Seeing Noah and Bo celebrate together was a glorious thing. Cohesion. Leadership.

I can’t predict the future but there are so many positives to take from what’s going on at Oregon Football, that with the schedule ahead, this team might just be able to be playing it’s best ball come late fall and be set up to make some noise.

  9. ....and it wasn’t that close.

How many of you think Mario would have pulled it out in Pullman today?

    Didn’t think so.

Ducks might not yet be a good or great team but dang, they snatched a victory with serious perseverance and grit. Lanning and Co might not be there yet but I like what I see, as bad as some of it was.

  10. Never thought they’d look so comprehensively unprepared. Tackling abysmal, coverage soft, QB play lacking, special teams more like special Olympics and a non existent pass rush. Protection and run blocking average and too many unforced errors.
no use of height and never really gave the run game much of a chance. Disappointing start.

  11. My Drugs are clearly better than ALL of yours.

I see a Duck Victory in the ATL.

I see the Ducks fielding 11 receivers and TEs topping 6’3” with 9, yes nine of them topping 6’5”. Half of them have good speed at the position. The Ducks have never had such height and speed and talent at WR. By comparison to last year, night and day.

I See a veteran top ten Duck O- line which ran the ball well last year with now 5 capable backs who could carry the rock. Several with some proven experience. It’s a Solid line with a few big nasty bodies.

The Duck O-linemen are going against a Georgia line not nearly as talented as last year. This admitted by Kirby Smart himself. “

“We’ve got good depth, but we obviously don’t have the quality at the top we had last year. We don’t have three first-rounders across our defensive line, so we can’t ask them or expect them to do what last year’s group did.”-Kirby Smart.

The Ducks will run the ball for 200+

I see the deepest biggest most talented DL the Ducks have had in years. Lost KT but added 3 talented experienced big bodied guys. More experience, deeper, and bigger with proven returning talent.

    Georgia under 150

I see a Duck LB Corp with real speed and deep again at every position who can run with and bang with Bowers get after the QB chase down RBs and bang with the less experienced Georgia o line. Duck LBs have never been more talented or gifted and last year were so depleted Bassa had to move from safety!

I see a DB room with two corners at 6’1” and 6’3” with speed toughness and some experience and many others right behind.  I see a 6’5” safety and two Stars that bring the wood. Jamal hill being 6’1”and Brian Bennet with  proven talent and toughness

I see vastly improved special teams emphasis.

I see a hungry Bo Nix wanting to prove the naysayers wrong. He’s never been bad just not ever matched the hype. With an equally hungry and more physically gifted TT pushing him I suspect the Ducks have guys that can lead the team.

This Duck team is a roster unlike Oregon has ever seen. The talent of the depth is only outmatched by the measurables of the perceived starters by comparison to previous years.

Georgia likely will not achieve end of season cohesion on day one. This is a trap game for Georgia even if they are ready. This isn’t last years team. They are not Deep or more impressive at WR. They are not as deep at RB. The QB is 5’11 195 , medium arm, and not very fast. Bennet is not likely to carry the team or survive a heavy pass rush and playing from behind.

Oregon went to tOSU and people said similar things about the game and then the Ducks won anyway, without KT, and a lesser roster than they have now.

The Ducks are a much improved team by comparison. They’ve bonded and will motivate off their fallen brother. If they’ve been coached up anything is possible and I think that this Duck team has the pieces to do something special.

That starts with a 26-19 victory in Atlanta.

    • Go Ducks! 3

  12. This Duck season has real potential. Perhaps more physical measurable potential than any Duck team previously.

I expect much much more from this team than last years. Multiple wideouts over 6’3” with wheels. 5 talented running backs. Two speedy slot guys. Tall athletic TEs all behind a veteran line.

On defense the D line is stacked as deep as it ever been. The LB group has both size and speed. Our DBs all have length snd speed and our top three CBs are over 6’ with top end speed. Safeties are tough and physical.

There are no longer glowing holes on the Oregon roster outside of a big unknown at QB. I’m cautiously optimistic there with BO having experience and TT talented humble and working hard with butters in the wings.

Utah beat the Ducks because Mario couldn’t fire up the team to beat a lesser roster. Mario had one foot out the door and clearly didn’t create the same cohesiveness being instilled presently.

This season has all the makings of a Cinderella story. New coach opening against the natty champs and his former team, combined with the emotionally cohesive motivation of coaches and the untimely death of a beloved selfless teammate who sadly helps to bond and motivate others to honor his memory. And by all accounts his memory is special and felt by a great many on the team. He’s in peoples minds on the field in the weight room and in their hearts. Look at what the deaths of Utah players did to/for them. It wasn’t insignificant snd was mentioned often.

I sense the Ducks come out hot fast and loose and shock the nation with a big Road win in ATL and are top 5 after beating BYU at home. If those things happen this Duck team will like previous Duck teams control it’s destiny.

The extra icing on the cake is Mariota having a big year in ATL while Georgia Rolls and possibly facing the Ducks again in the Natty.

If they are writing storylines this Duck team might make a pretty good one if they handle their business.

    Think we’re recruiting well now?

Pull this scenario off and the southern kids gonna start committing more often.

  13. This is the only quote out of that article that made any sense by Matt le blah

    “I don’t get it.”

no you don’t marry, as you freely admit the talent is better at Oregon and somehow think Caleb Williams is some NFL ready player and Bo nix is terrible? Ridiculous.

USC is still rebuilding from a decade or more of decay.

The lines are suspect and it’s no given that either the Ducks or Trojans will be cohesive and dominant under first year coaching staffs.

my money is on the Ducks.

Yes, this morning KPNW reported Kay announced it on Instagram.

This puzzles me because I don't understand why people would announce (to the world, essentially) news like this publicly - unless it's to get attention.  But, it's Ms. Kay's prerogative to do so.  Personally, I think she should have cleared this with Spencer's family first.  It'd sure be a lousy way to learn the news - by an Instagram announcement.

    I wish Ms. Kay well.

She was the streaker at the 2020 Super Bowl. I think it’s safe to say she likes the attention.
