Yeah, I wish DL chose better words when asked about Colorado. DS is a trash talker himself, but throughout his playing and coaching career, was able to back up his talk. Fortunately, the Oregon/Colorado game is at Autzen, so I guess that helps somewhat. Like another poster stated, Oregon just needs to focus and execute, as we all know DS will use what DL said as a rallying cry to his team. OBD definitely have the talent to win this game, but it's not going to be a cakewalk as in the past. Go Ducks!

Dan Lanning is SERIOUS About Michigan State?
OceaniaDuck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Oh no - I hope this isn't true. And if it isn't, DL needs to hold a press conference debunking this as this can be a major distraction during the season. -
Canzano: Finding Logic in a 74-Point Drubbing
OceaniaDuck replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
As coach Bobby Bowden once told an angry opponent after a blowout victory at Florida State: “It's your job to keep the score down, not mine.” This. At least Canzano to his credit mentioned the above in his article. Not to say that we shouldn't practice good sportsmanship, but as other posters were saying, the bench was practically emptied in the latter stages of the game but PSU still couldn't stop them. And less points were actually scored by the Ducks in the 2nd half. What's next? Getting random fans in the stands to suit up and play in an effort to not score? Don't get me wrong, I was actually feeling bad for the PSU football players and coaching staff as the game wore on. But at the same time you cannot dampen the enthusiasm of the Duck 3rd stringer who actually got out on the field and wanted to make a big play. Also read the article by Goe. I don't know if he was at any of the Duck games against B1G opponents, but the Ducks are capable of holding their own against them. Even during the lean times way back, when the Ducks demolished Iowa 44-6, beat a decent Illinois team at the time and rocked Michigan 39-7 in THEIR house. Not to mention some of the Rose Bowl victories and other regular season victories against B1G teams. -
We'll see. Of course I hope OBD wins, but some teams play up and down depending on who their competition is. I'm sure TT will be fired up when the Ducks come into their house. Ducks just need to focus and execute and all the rest will fall into place. I'm sure DL will have them prepared.

Honestly, I'm just sad for what the college football landscape has become. I honestly hope now that ESPN, Fox and all the other players that caused this whole realignment chaos go belly up and the whole thing implodes. This is just crazy. Then maybe everyone can come back home and the PAC rises again like the Phoenix coming out of the ashes.

Canzano Drops Revenue Value Bomb About LA Schools
OceaniaDuck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I guess in a sense, these revelations do kind of absolve GK. Now the onus falls of course still on LS and whoever was driving the $50 million price tag that caused the whole deal to fall apart. -
What a Tool: Oregon State AD Scott Barnes...
OceaniaDuck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
At first I thought this was a joke, only to cringe when I realized this was actually for real lol! -
That kind of reminds me of the old antics of the U of Miami, which according to a 30 for 30 ESPN episode, were responsible for the NCAA creating all of the excessive celebration and other sportsmanship rules in college football today. In a morbid sort of way, the antics of U of Miami players back in the day certainly made college football interesting and hilarious to watch lol.

I just hope the PAC-4, or at least two members of the PAC-4 for now, end up in the B1G to create a West coast pod of the conference as many have suggested. Thus that would hopefully reduce the necessity of lengthy travel and keep some of the old rivalries alive. IMHO, the excitement of playing intriguing new opponents and being in a new conference would soon be replaced by fatigue at the thought of having to travel long distances, perhaps even being away for awhile when playing against opponents on the East coast and probably even some players who want to minimize grueling travel schedules entering the transfer portal. All members of the PAC-4 have good academics, especially of course Cal and Stanford, if that's a primary concern of the B1G.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't there a clause in the alliance that each conference made a promise not to poach teams from the other respective conferences?

How Fox and ESPN Dismantled the Pac-12
OceaniaDuck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Excellent article. Everything that was said but I also believe the dismantling process of the PAC-12 began when USC was placed under excessive and unreasonable sanctions by the NCAA for the so-called Reggie Bush scandal. Love them or hate them, I believe USC was dealt an unfair hand. I did actually read the NCAA report, and the impression I got was the investigation was more about bringing down USC football rather than following the spirit of NCAA rules and regulations. Couple that with the investigation being conducted by Paul Dee, who ironically ran one of the dirtiest college football programs at the time, and IMO the integrity of the investigation was questionable. In the early 2000s. USC was a juggernaut, and was elevating all of West Coast football at the time creating a truly fascinating bi-coastal dynamic. But the horribly misguided sanctions against USC obliterated this resurgence and sucked all the air out of the room outside of the SEC. PAC-12 football has just never really been the same afterwards. Don't get me wrong, I love my Ducks, but like it or not, USC served as one of the main flag-bearers of the PAC-12 conference, and a good USC football team was also good for the entire conference. -
Where the REST of the Pac is Going...
OceaniaDuck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Just remember LS, the name that will go down in infamy as destroying the PAC-12 conference. GK is also culpable, but IMO not as much as LS. That said, I hope Oregon State and Wazzu follow the 4 corner schools at least to the BIG-12 as they are good enough to compete in that conference. Ideally, I do hope they can join us in the B1G but that seems like a stretch at least for now. -
If all the rumors turn out to be true, LS's name will go down in infamy as the commissioner who destroyed the conference. GK inherited a mess to be sure, but sadly it doesn't seem like he was up to the task of helping the conference thrive, which is what he was hired for. All the university presidents who voted to keep LS on and thus enabled him also are to share in the blame. Additionally, rooting for the rest of the PAC to beat USC/UCLA and give them "proper" sendoffs to the B1G with losing records for stabbing the PAC-12 in the back. I guess I have one foot out the door now on the "I hope the PAC survives" train unless a miracle happens in the 11th hour.

Big Ten Rumored To Be Adding Four Prominent Schools This Week
OceaniaDuck replied to OceaniaDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Lol! I understand all the skepticism. I myself didn't believe the rumors about Colorado until it happened. And with GK painfully silent about the PAC-12 media deal, I'm not surprised anymore about bombshells happening within the conference lol. -
Big Ten Rumored To Be Adding Four Prominent Schools This Week
OceaniaDuck replied to OceaniaDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This is huge if accurate - RIP PAC-12 -
In an ideal world, the PAC continues on, Oregon stays put and USC/UCLA are convinced to come back home (with penalty fees for backing out of B1G agreement paid for by the conference). The PAC gets a media deal that everyone can live with for the time being and we're all one big happy family again (minus Colorado unfortunately). Down the road, the PAC adds SDSU and the conference will be thriving moving forward. Back to reality - Oregon stays put, and GK needs to hire someone with relevant experience help him close the PAC-12 media deal asap before other teams start to leave the conference. If Colorado can go back to its original home, I'm sure the same can happen in USC/UCLA's case if they find out they weren't a good fit in the B1G after all. I want to see the PAC survive and USC/UCLA come back even though the conference would have to pay any penalty fees and negotiate uneven revenue distributions among its members. Worst case scenario - Oregon needs to ramp up talks with the B1G to let them in.

Kliavkoff Caught With His Pants Down, Twice.
OceaniaDuck replied to lownslowav8r's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Although I wish this day would have never come and I was against it from the beginning, probably now time for Oregon to knock on the B1G's door and ask to be let in. The PAC, in my opinion, is done. -
I would say with this news, stick a fork in the PAC, it's pretty much done.
-
Frankly, like what some have said, now I'm beginning to wonder if GK is any better than Larry Scott. The fact that there's still no media deal and a lot of uncertainty regarding that, I understand why some schools are exploring other options. If Colorado does leave, regardless of what they did or didn't contribute to the PAC, IMHO that would embolden other schools who were maybe just window shopping for another home to really move forward to close the deal. I really hope that doesn't happen.

Agree with this. Helfrich actually was a decent head coach IMHO. The Oregon brand at the time was the blur offense and MH was our guy. Again, IMHO, what did Helfrich in was his not-so-great hires when it came to DC. The Ducks O was actually still more or less pretty explosive during all of Helfrich's tenure. Unfortunately, OBD hit rock bottom when Brady Hoke was hired to lead the defense - our Swiss cheese D at the time just couldn't stop anybody. If Helfrich had hired a halfway decent DC, I believe he still would have been HC for at least a little while longer. There is always a lot of talk about how certain coaches are great assistant coaches but don't quite cut it being HC. I guess Brady Hoke is an anomaly as he is a not-so-great position coach but has had success being a HC lol.

Texas Tech - Don't Nap on this B-12 Sleeper
OceaniaDuck replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yup, this game should be a nail-biter - Texas Tech is no joke. I wouldn't be surprised if OBD escape Lubbock by a winning margin of a FG or less if indeed they are victorious. The possibility is very real that this could be a trap game for the Ducks if they don't play their hearts out. That said, I'm confident OBD will do well in this match-up. Go Ducks! -
Paul Finebaum Predicts Pac-12 Will Collapse by 2026
OceaniaDuck replied to Rufus's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
What I see in all of these PAC-10 doom and gloom articles is a play on the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, but sports version, where the media wants certain events to fall into place, i.e., the "demise" of the PAC-10 so the media can get its way with college football, which unfortunately it already has to a large extent. I am skeptical of whatever Dennis Dodd and Paul Finebaum have to say regarding the state of affairs of the PAC-10 conference. Probably the only journalists I feel are credible are Jon Wilner and John Canzano. All the rest is white noise. I'm just waiting in anticipation as to what happens and hope GK negotiates a deal that will help the conference to move forward and thrive again. -
