  1. Although of course I wish the best for the student athletes, something has to give - this is too much already. The innocence, fun and wholesomeness of college football has all but disappeared. Yeah, I do feel a little bit of hypocrisy in saying this as I love watching college football as much as the next guy and want the best players on OBD roster, but it's just sad to see what the landscape is evolving into.
  2. I'll be honest - in a way, I do hope that ESPN, Fox and all the other corporate media that destroyed college football as we know it go belly up due to overextending themselves from all the TV money they have to pay out. Then maybe from all the pieces that have to be picked up and put back together can emerge a college football landscape that is generally fun again with the regional conferences and rivalries and all - including a resurrected PAC-12.
  3. Sad to see him leave Oregon State - what a gut punch for the Beavers. And possibly to add salt to the wound, I can see many of the best OSU players flocking to the transfer portal as a result. Can't really blame JS though, with the Beaver football program in a state of limbo and inevitably being relegated to G5 status. It's just really sad to see what has become of college football.
  4. I guess OBD were firing on all cylinders tonight while maybe things just didn't click for the Beavs today. I was expecting another nail-biter, especially looking at the Beavs' last game against UW. Just wish the best for OSU going forward - hope they are able to keep Jonathan Smith as HC. As for OBD, PAC-12 Championship Game, here we come! Go Ducks!
  5. Man, lucky that OSU WR tripped over his own feet. Otherwise, that would have been a TD.
  6. Where I'm at, the Fox online broadcast is defaulting to the Spanish version. I don't understand Spanish, but just happy I have a chance to watch the game lol.
  7. Feel badly for Camden but it's time now to give our other K a shot when the opportunity arises.
  8. Seems to me like the legal counsels at the 10 departing PAC-12 schools were either asleep at the wheel or otherwise were not consulted before the respective institutions bolted.
  9. Probably a more appropriate question is would Tyler Shough want to come back to Oregon? I highly doubt it. I wish him the best wherever he lands.
  10. Rich Brooks planted the seeds, Mike Bellotti took the Ducks to the next level and Chip Kelly just shot the Duck football program into the stratosphere. I would always be grateful for Chip's innovations to revolutionize Oregon football and perhaps all of college football in general. I'm really saddened that Chip only found limited success in his stints post Oregon. However, just like the Wishbone, I-formation and other offenses that provided schematic advantages at the time, rule changes are made, defenses adapt and the cycle continues to come up with the next hot scheme. Watching some UCLA games, it seems that Chip still has some offensive genius left in him. IMHO, it's his dislike of recruiting - even though he's right in the middle of a recruiting hotbed - and his loyalty to a fault to stick with old buddies on his staff who probably don't quite cut it, such as when he stubbornly refused to let JA go when it was clearly evident that his defenses were the weakest link, that limits him.
  11. I'm really rooting and hoping for DL to stay in Eugene but the fact of the matter is we don't know what aTm may be negotiating with him as well as what kind of discussions DL is having with his family. I'm sure too that the Oregon AD and Uncle Phil are working on their end to convince DL to stay at the U of O. Unfortunately some things are beyond our control and if the worst happens, I'm sure there are other capable candidates out there that can fill in the void should DL be offered and accepts the HC job at aTm. I sure as heck hope he stays with OBD.
  12. Thank you for the article. Imagine what could have been if Texas and Oklahoma were allowed into the PAC-12 when the conference had its chance. It's a shame the PAC-12 is dissolving but hopefully when everyone realizes that the grass is probably not greener on the other side, the conference can be resurrected again like the Phoenix rising out of the ashes.
  13. I guess to paraphrase a quote by a famous boxer: Everybody has a plan, until they get a lot of $$$ shoved in their face Lol! On a more serious note though, I do think DL is more conscientious than the other two previous HC we had and if anything, would ponder over the pros and cons of leaving more than the other two did. I really hope DL decides to stay if offered the HC position at aTm.
  14. Lol! I hate to think that up to now, the U of O is probably still viewed as a "stepping stone" program. Yes, we were never considered a blue-blood either, but I guess there are no guarantees anymore as to whether we will see the kind of coaching stability/passing of the torch the U of O had starting with Rich Brooks and ending with Marc Helfrich's firing. I guess the motto of the day now is to enjoy the ride while you still can.
  15. Let's say the worst does happen and DL bolts for aTm. Maybe promote Will Stein to HC if he doesn't follow Lanning? Offer Tosh Lupoi a better contract to entice him to stay? I think I'm done with the "hiring outside" thing lol.
  16. On a previous list just posted, if aTm wants an almost sure guarantee that they'll be in CFP contention and possibly win a natty in the shortest period of time, Urban Meyer is probably the man for the job. Questionable character, but the guy can coach - at least at the college level.
  17. As others have said, "here we go again". Looking at what happened with Willie Taggart and Mario Cristobal, the grass is not always greener on the other side. IIRC, Taggart in an article that I read did express some regret at leaving Oregon as the support system was actually there to help a HC be successful, which he didn't appreciate at the time. I was resisting the move at first, but now that Oregon is going to be in the B1G, I hope that would be an incentive among other things to remain at Oregon. Even Kalen DeBoer from "that school up north" has been announced as a possible candidate. Here's hoping that DL decides to stay at Oregon and finish what he started.
  18. I really hope that the Big 12 has a change of heart and takes in both Oregon State and Washington State. Both schools belong in P5 (soon to be P4) programs IMHO.
  19. I honestly never thought Lincoln Riley was ever a good fit at USC and just kind of cringed when the news came out that he was hired to be the next Trojans HC. As I've said before, prototypical USC football is a pro-style offense and a solid defense. Right now, USC is a glorified Texas Tech with blue-chip players IMHO. Sure, USC can replace the DC, but without Caleb Williams next season and no heir apparent in sight, I wouldn't be surprised if USC is a sub .500 team next season. Also, it's kinda funny how the two prized schools in the LA market that the B1G pursued just both fell out of the top 25, while the two schools that the conference was hesitant to add, "that school up north" and OBD, are in the top 10 and in line for CFP contention.
  20. If Oregon goes up 42-6, I say put Ty Thompson in for the entire 4th quarter and see what he can do against a decent defense. Utes really missing Cam Rising, especially in high stakes games like this.
  21. TD by Bucky Irving! Ducks still can't take their foot off the gas pedal. Utah is a very capable team.
  22. Well, I just hope this game will be ugly in the way we want it to be ugly lol. One thing I hate about the PAC-12 but love too is that even the worst team in the conference is certainly capable of beating the best team on a good day.
  23. I agree with Jon Wilner. If I was HC, I would've gone with the surer probabilities and kicked the FG's and punted the ball on 4th down especially given the position around midfield and game situation. Then try to rely on our D to stop the Washington offense. The 4th down conversions may have worked against the lesser talented teams we had played, but UW's D was at another level higher, and the probabilities of converting obviously would be lower. But of course I'm just giving my opinion as a naive spectator and Ducks fan lol.
