Posted January 2, 20214 yr Administrator My FishDuck Friends, Let's discuss the game in this thread and have fun with it! Here's hoping for a big game from Johnny Johnson III! Mr. FishDuck
January 2, 20214 yr Well, I guess that answers the QB question. Per Moseley Shough takes warmup snaps from Forsyth, and Brown takes them from Denis. Show 'em your best stuff, Tyler!
January 2, 20214 yr Not feeling too good after that drive from Iowa state... The defense lacks the fire that carried them in the oac-12 championship game.
January 2, 20214 yr If Jamal Hill makes that fairly easy tackle on 3rd down that drive is a whole different situation. That's the fundamentals of the game. That's how you lose if you don't play fundamentals.
January 2, 20214 yr Like a knife through butter for the O. Hope they stay consistent with Shough throwing it down field.
January 2, 20214 yr In the USC game the D got better as the game went on. Hopefully they will do the same here.
January 2, 20214 yr Offense looked good ... They gutted the Iowa State defense pretty well there. Happy to see a successful drive after the first run by Shough of that drive.

January 2, 20214 yr Better at slowing the run this second ISU drive... But struggling pretty bad to get any pass rush in.
January 2, 20214 yr Unable to get stops on two big third downs (including the busted coverage touchdown pass) and one fourth down play during that drive. Those are back breakers for a defense. I am concerned our D is going to get winded in this game. Somebody should be assigned to Koler full time. Purday will look for him time and time again. Edited January 2, 20214 yr by C J
January 2, 20214 yr Author Administrator With Iowa State taking a half of the entire first quarter their first scoring drive--it means that Oregon will have far fewer possessions in this game than normal, thus you have to make the most of every possession on offense and the defense has to make some stops! The big play by Dye effectively had a slice block by our TE, but not on the edge defender, but on an Inside Linebacker, and THAT is an interesting variation! Mr. FishDuck

January 2, 20214 yr Moderator My biggest fear coming into this game was that the Ducks would lay a massive egg.

January 2, 20214 yr Some will not be happy about this comment but I would bring back Helf--we are not prepared well Edited January 2, 20214 yr by 1Ducker1
January 2, 20214 yr Moderator It's only partway through the second quarter with a one-touchdown deficit. Let's quell the panic. Iowa State is a really good team.

January 2, 20214 yr Just now, 1Ducker1 said: Brown is the man!! Be nice if he sticks around one more year.
January 2, 20214 yr Thing is..........Shough looked really good in the first drive as well. I don't mind the committee.

January 2, 20214 yr How about Popo's submarine move on that fourth down stop at the goal line? Two epic plays by Oregon's big men in this game so far. #1 was Kampmoyers block and #2 was Popo's. Further proof that the big guys make a huge difference in the game. Edited January 2, 20214 yr by C J

I know there is a FishDuck article somewhere that talks a lot about that. Though it does look like Oregon is figuring things out.
January 2, 20214 yr Well that's the game for ISM. Hopefully someone will step up for his loss. Dru Mathis? What happened to Isaac Townsend anyway? Edited January 2, 20214 yr by C J

January 2, 20214 yr Well, save for one great play by Popo the D does not look good at all. Granted ISU has a very good looking offense with great play calling but....................... Edited January 2, 20214 yr by C J

Helfrich had a completely different HC to work for back then, won't work with Cristobal, as we saw when Helfrich went pro.
January 2, 20214 yr Wow........special teams is a major achilles heel for this team. Year in and year out.
January 2, 20214 yr Moderator Iowa State is what a well-coached, disciplined, cohesive team looks like. They're really good.

Though what is also showing right now is how much more expirence this iowa state team has over Oregon. They are loaded with seniors and have almost played double the games of Oregon. More practice time, more game time and it is all very hard to make up. Especially for the youngest team in the country.
