Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted September 4, 2023 Our fellow Duck-Buddy, Jon Joseph, pointed out in another thread the low scoring and boring offenses of the B1G this last weekend. What if....?? Oregon and USC come into that conference and simply outscores everyone, and leads the damn thing from the get-go? How would that go over in the Midwest? (Would Fox heads explode?) Fun to Ponder? Not if you are in the B1G! 1 1 Mr. FishDuck
Krsmqn No. 2 Share Posted September 4, 2023 Good point, considering no B1G team scored over 38 points this week. That's with 5 ranked teams (3 in the top 10!) The future looks bright!
GatOrlando No. 3 Share Posted September 4, 2023 They'll just assume you don't have the line play, or defensive toughness. SEC fans feel the same way. Forget the fact that Ohio State and Georgia set the Peach Bowl record for points last year at 83, would have been 86 had Ohio State made that field goal to end the game. But don't let facts get in the way of presenting the story. Anybody remember the blackshirts of Nebraska? Or three yards and a cloud of dust between Michigan and Ohio State? Yeah not in my lifetime dudes.

If "Oregon and USC come into that conference and simply outscores everyone", then one would have to assume it's their opponents line play, or defensive toughness that should be questioned. Is this what you meant? Edited September 4, 2023 by Krsmqn

Is this what you meant? No. If Oregon and USC go into the B1G and score sixty points, it's because your team got tougher up front. You see when you switch out the PAC sticker for the B1G one, you automatically become tougher. Never question the patch power. Also you must forget that 2021 game ever happened. Ohio State players all had the flu that day. 1 1
DanLduck No. 6 Share Posted September 4, 2023 The SEC, led by Saban, resisted fast football. Now, even they embrace "tempo". When Oregon et al, start scoring at will, even the B1G will adapt.

It was contagious and the entire tOSU team was afflicted. Certainly wasn't that they were outplayed by the Ducks. That game and the Rose Bowl were the two shining moments in the Cristobal firmament.
DrJacksPlaidPants Moderator No. 8 Share Posted September 4, 2023 I think Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan will always have great offenses. I also expect Wisconsin and Nebraska to improve once Fickell and Ruhle get a few recruiting classes under their belts. All it takes is a great QB and a few playmakers. Look at what Russell Wilson did for a Brett Bielema coached team. Their offense put up some big numbers.

Just Ducky No. 10 Share Posted September 4, 2023 Actually Wilson was on his way to winning that game but he ran out of clock.
Solar No. 11 Share Posted September 4, 2023 Fun to ponder. I'm also pondering how well the air raid will work in late November. Wisconsin just switched to it. I recall that UW WSU game in Pullman where WSU was the better team that year, but the snow just took out their offense and they lost.

Wow, blast from the past: watching Ron Vander Kelen in that game was eye-opening for me. You had to pull for the kid as he kept passing and fighting. I was sorry to see him lose. But that game, more than any other up to that time, provided a terrific example of the power of the passing game. RIP Ron.
HDuck No. 18 Share Posted September 5, 2023 It also was an example of the power of the Rose Bowl in that era. That was the 1962 season, with Rose Bowl 1963 being one of four games on January 1st, out of 9 bowls total. It was a really big deal to be in the Cotton, Rose, Orange and Sugar bowls. One of 14 Rose Bowls with broadcaster Mel Allen, who about had to eat a plateful of USC praise as Wisconsin rallied.

See you get it. You must also forget the last two times you played Michigan. Those games were just an illusion, in 2007 Michigan players all missed the bus. So in order to not disappoint the paying customers, Lloyd Carr arranged for the whole Eastern Michigan squad to play in Michigan uniforms. The game in 2003 saw the plane take Michigan to Corvallis, but luckily the whole Western Michigan football team was in Eugene. They just so happened to have the Michigan uniforms shipped to the right city. So yeah, those games were not really against the all time leader in wins, those mighty Wolverines.
