The NCAA is reportedly considering a rule change that would allow schools to display corporate logos on their football fields and potentially even corporate patches on uniforms in the future, according to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports.

Another revenue stream helps the budget....especially when you have to pony-up a new 20 million per year to players!

If I start seeing college football players looking like race car drivers with a bunch of corporate patches on, I'll be done with college athletics.  This all has gone a long ways from kids getting a free college education in exchange for playing a sport they love  for a school.  Seems like the kids would become more concerned keeping their sponsors happy than the school they represent.

Keeping the sponsors happy is great performance.  Everybody wins.

I am not wild about it either, but I gotta roll with the punches because just as fans see great racing regardless of patches...we will see great football.

Interesting.  I think Nike and Addidas already pony up quite a bit to have their logos on the uniforms.  Wonder how they might feel about sharing the real-estate.

I get the desire for schools to put sponsorships on the field...

But it feels tacky.

Kinda like many of the bowl names these days.

Didn't the Ducks play in the Foster Farm Bowl in 2018 or something like that?

NFL-Lite has now grown in size to NFL-Medium. The ACC imploding will likely be the final step toward big-time CFB consolidation and NFL-Lite. B1G/Fox American Conference; SEC/ESPN National Conference and the G6.

'Sod Story?' Not bad.

Imagine LSU’s “eye of the Tiger” replaced by the Raising Cane’s dog. Or Alabama’s script ‘A’ replaced by a Nike swoosh.

It hasn't been kids getting a free education for decades.  Not to mention coaches started being mercenaries  over a decade ago.

If purity is what you're looking for, Harvard, Penn, Howard and Gambling have much to offer.

You can dream for days past, but again, we were in High School when that ended ( if you're a  grey beard like most here).  I know this personally, because I talked directly to many a  Fusky when I attended Washington.  Players got "deals".  And let's remember Don James got probation for his efforts. He wasn't the first, or the last.

It's either the schools generate much more revenue, or college sports are dead.   All of them.

Now, I was a pretty damn good intramural football player ( 2 titties, one as a freshman, one as a junior), but the biggest crowd we got was two hundred folks. That's the future if you get your wishes.

So my question for you is, is purity really that important to you?

I love college football.  I want to see Toledo at Akron on TV still because it's like watching Creswell at Oakridge, you know, those kids that aren't talented enough to play at OBD or USuck. You know, the kind of scenario you want college football to be

That's going away unfortunately.  And so will all of college football if we don't see investment from Venture Capital ( remember the PAC12 was offered that nearly ten years ago), and corporate sponsorship.

I hate to preach, but it's absolutely necessary.  The good old days weren't always good and tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems. So Bye Bye Miss American Pie...you have a choice to make.

Another wise post by Mike West. It seems like college football is starting to look more like an English version of the second tier English Championship League, second to the NFL's Premier League.

The day may come where corporate sponsor logos that are larger than any identifying information for the team in question are pasted all over the jerseys of players just like they are for European football clubs.

I don't like it, but I agree that most of us tend to over idealize the past and dread change. If I get to see my Ducks play, I'll still be a happy man.

There's not much purity in life. Look for it where you can, but moving forward, I think it's a fool's errand for us to expect it in college sports.

Now THAT is wisdom for us all to accept.  His words are true....

Personally... I can live with corporate logos on fields. I don't like it, mostly because I feel it looks tacky and diminishes from a cleaner look.

But corporate logos on uniforms is something I absolutely hate the look of entirely.

Just the thought of it is revolting.  I've seen the WNBA tastefully.  But it's just hard to stomach full blown commercialism.

Let's hope the guys in charge are creative enough to find more palatable solutions.

Isn't that what Knute said about the Gipper? Nothing new under the sun.

Interesting indeed.

In their next contacts they will probably limit the size and/or the number of other logos on their uniforms.  Unless of course, that is already in the contracts.

Although, we already see in on bowl game unis.

$ (shocking) will likely have the SEC going to 9 conference games in 2026. BTW, someone please tell CBS that it no longer covers the SEC!

SEC still looking into the idea of a nine-game conference schedule.
