I do have to ask how you left out the guy who leads the team in solo tackles, assisted tackles and of course total tackles? He also shows up in sacks and interceptions. This guy doesn't even practice with the team full-time because he plays another sport in the spring. He was also already drafted in the other sport he plays. With the team littered with elite transfers and 4 an 5* talent, he is the one guy who is a walk-on, and actually a double walk-on. He wasn't recruited, given a scholarship in any sport, let alone NIL money. I would argue without this guys motor, passion for the game and football IQ on the field and off, the Ducks wouldn't be 11-0. On top of that he is a hometown boy, South Eugene High School, you can't grow up any closer to the Oregon Program. Maybe it is just the fact that I love walk-ons, and homegrown talent, that I find his impact larger than most. With football moving toward transfers, NIL money, going after the hottest recruit, Bryce Boettcher is what is still great about college football! But I agree with Hayward, it's impossible to leave BB out of a list of the most impactful players this season. To be undefeated and No. one in the country entering the final week of the season requires exceptional contributions from many different players performing many different roles at the highest level. Here's a few more I thought of. Most Improved Unit: Offensive line. After the Boise St game, it did not feel that a special season was eminent. Quite the contrary. It felt like the O line was going to be the thing that held them back yet by the end of the year they were the strength of the team. Out playing the entire Big at their own game in season one gave the Ducks instant cred far beyond the expected dash and flash. X Factor Spark: Tez Johnson. Beyond special teams excellence, defenses needed to game plan for him specifically and that still did not help. He always makes the first defender look silly and if he does that to the second, he's gone. I'd say he's been the most dynamic play maker since DAT. Super Sub: Justius Lowe. Filling Tez's absent shoes was a monumental chore and Lowe did that exceptionally well. He became a legit threat and had to be taken seriously in defensive schemes which was important in spreading the defense too thin to deal with so many threats. Cash Money Threes: Atticus Sappington deserves special mention for being a reliable kicker that can be a difference maker in close games. After Wisconsin I think we all can feel confident that points can be put on the board when drives stall. It is the doubters who empower those who dream big. Bryce is what is so great about this country. If you want something, are willing to relentlessly work at something, all the doubters in the world are just fuel to your fire! I will also add my favorite photo of the year, where Boettcher shows why he is so valuable as a LB. Kudos again to Charles for pulling this one off a video. I guess I didn't hide it very well... This upcoming week I will be doing a feature on Monday for Bryce specifically! I've been watching his tape the past two weeks and have decided to do an in-depth analysis on his game and how he's helped the defense dominate all year. Surely should have been on this list but I felt he deserved his own space and I cannot wait to get into it this upcoming week. Really appreciate the insight!
