A way-too-early look at the balance of power in the Big Ten Conference going into the 2025 college football season.

Oregon is ranked 2nd behind the usual suspect, Ohio State.

On the Ducks 2025 schedule, OBD plays at 16 Northwestern, 13 USC,  at 12 Rutgers, 11 Minnesota, at 10 Iowa, No. 9 Wisconsin, at 7 UWho,

5 Indiana, at 4 Penn State.

OBD misses No. 3 Michigan and No. 1 Ohio State.

Illinois at No. 8 is too low IMO. 18 of the players who started in the bowl win over South Carolina return for the Illini including QB Altmeyer.

Illinois misses Michigan and plays Ohio State and USC at home. Two Donut Holes and at Duke (that lost its QB to Beavis!) OOC.

Tough road games at Indiana and Wisconsin. The Illini are off the week before tripping to Seattle to play UW.

I think Illinois should be ranked no lower than No. 5.

This is the first I’ve paid attention to the Ducks 25 schedule.  I gotta say, I’ve seen much tougher schedules, looks very good for making the Playoff IMO.  That trip to Beaver Stadium likely won’t be easy.  I think I read that they have chosen that game as their White Out game.  I’m not sure if that’s good or bad for us.

Rutgers and Minnesota ahead of USC?

Trojan fans are good with it...

Mr. FishDuck

Well this is just way, way to early but alot of fun to ponder and discuss.

The top 4 are a safe bet, however nothing is concrete until after the spring games. Transfers out have to factor in. Additional key portal additions?

It is just to fluid and only time (games played) will tell how the players on the the #1 undefeated Ducks team will respond to their butt whooping in the Rose Bowl.

Go Ducks - 11-1 in 2025!

IMHO Michigan and fuskies are ranked too high, Illinois and Indiana too low.

My top 5 would be:

1.  Ohio St.

2. (tie) Oregon/Penn St.

4. Michigan

5. Indiana or Illinois

Sleeper to watch: Nebraska, I think Raiola is going to be really good in his second year.

Boy there are a lot of dregs in the bottom half of the conference though.

Agreed, as the Cal QB that Cignetti got is good, and I agree with Jon about Illinois.

Mr. FishDuck

I think UW is about right. Indiana is going to drop off with a new QB.

But they still have "I win, google me", COY! 5 seems about right, I'd prefer 8th or 9th.

He doesn't have the same experience as Rourke but transfer from Cal Mendoza probably has more natural talent and as good or better arm strength.

The games Cal lost last season, especially the meltdown vs. Miami were not on Mendoza.

Cignetti's QBs have played well everywhere he has coached. Looking at the champ game opponents the loss at Ohio State and the loss at Notre Dame are understandable.

My sincere apologies for the source. 🦨 This is an excellent look back at the strength of schedule for B1G teams in 2024 and a look ahead to B1G teams' strength of schedule in 2025.

The 2024 and 2025 rankings are based on the SP+ rankings which will change at the end of the Spring practice and when rosters are known after the second round of portal signings.

With the season complete, here’s a look back, and a look forward, comparing the schedules for the Big Ten teams

Looking past the source, the info told us what we knew all season.

Another team with a relatively easy schedule was Indiana. They only played one top-25 team (Ohio State). In fact, they only played two teams in the top-50 (the other was Michigan). Plus, they played 5 teams that were ranked below #100 (Florida International, Western Illinois, Charlotte, Northwestern, and Purdue).

Again we see that Indiana and Iowa each only played one team ranked above them (both lost those games). The difference is that Indiana won all of their games against teams ranked below them while Iowa lost 3 of those games.

Bad for Iowa, but those were the only W's for Indiana.  Also, with this, for most of the season, every team Oregon played was ranked below them, every team Indiana played was pretty much ranked below every other team.

I couldn’t open the link but I would put Oregon even with Ohio State and Penn State (maybe even Michigan?) heading into next season.

It seems like all the top teams will lose a lot of players to graduation and the NFL Draft, after this year. The above teams are the ones that have recruited the best over the years, so they have the highest likelihood of winning the conference.

I’m not sure you can put one of those teams ahead of the other until you see how they look on the field against good competition. If Dante Moore is able to play, as well as many of us hope he can, Oregon could be as good as any team in the country next year (and we have a really favorable schedule to get the new players up to speed).

CBS Sports with some Dark Horse love for the Illini.

The Oklahoma pick is not OK. Oklahoma has the same brutal SEC conference schedule in 2025 and plays what should be an improved Michigan team OOC albeit in Norman.

Why in the heck is there an 8-month gap between CFB seasons?!

A 2025 Way Too Early Ranking By The Sporting News.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day has his hands full next season, regardless of how the national title game against Notre Dame plays out.

TSN predicts a 2025 Battle of the Os. PSU, which hosts OREGON and plays at Ohio State, is projected to be No. 3 in the B1G.

Wedding Planners?

LOL. How did Oregon finish 3rd in their 2024 B1G power rankings behind Ohio State and Penn State?

I can understand being #2 behind Ohio State but did the author not watch the B1G Championship Game?

Not only the B1G Rankings. If Osu2 wins the Natty, 13-1 Oregon should be No.2. it's 1 loss being to the champ. Notre Dame would have 2 L's, to osu2 & N. Illinois. Penn State, L to osu2 & Oregon.
