GeotechDuck No. 2 Share Posted yesterday at 04:53 AM This would be a massive win, but a loss doesn’t really hurt you. Hopefully, they can pull this out. Need to get that first round bye for the BIG tourney. 1

30Duck Author Moderator No. 4 Share Posted 16 hours ago 38-26 Wisconsin at halftime, 26 of the Badgers' point are in the paint. If teams never attempted 3's against this Ducks team, they'd win for sure.
Dave23 No. 5 Share Posted 16 hours ago Pretty typical for this team, as soon as they get behind they just start jacking threes right and left without moving the ball without throwing it inside or going to the rim. Evans had good energy down low, feed him already. If Oregon doesn't take another 3 this game they have a chance to win.
GeotechDuck No. 6 Share Posted 16 hours ago This is hard to watch. Oregon is getting murdered inside. Bittle had ZERO rebounds and three fouls the first half? ZERO? As Randy Moss would say, “Com’on man!” Angel has no points, no rebounds and a turnover. Ouch. Bamba shooting around his typical game average at 1-4 from the floor, but at least he plays defense, I guess? Once again as a team, poor play on defense, losing responsibility, out of position, and giving up 50%+ shooting. On offense, settling for contested jumpers. The one bright spot is Evans. He missed a couple shots, but had 5 rebounds, an offensive rebound, a huge block and a couple of nice takes and buckets. Gotta get that kid into the starting lineup and get him 24+ minutes a game. Tracey playing well too. I would leave him on the floor right now. I can’t believe this is a 12 point game right now. Should be 20+, but Wisconsin can’t buy a three. Hopefully, Dana turns some tables and chairs over in the locker room at half and they decide to defend a little bit in the second half.

Signoramous No. 17 Share Posted 14 hours ago Steady improvement from Kwame Evans is wonderful to see. He is as big an x-Factor for the postseason as the Ducks have. I have had my doubts whether Evans will finish his career as a Duck but when I see him fit into the rotation more and more it gives me hope. Tied to Evans in my mind is Mookie Cook. I look for an explanation in this forum about Mookie Cook his lack of playing time. It confuses me. Today I got to see him used effectively to help apply full court pressure. I would love to see someone post an article or comment to give some insight on Mookie's progress or lack of same. Great win today! Dave23 No. 18 Share Posted 14 hours ago (edited) So that's what I get for giving up and going plowing snow. Granted The snow is not going to plow itself but it looks like I missed a really good half of basketball. Go Ducks! Let me guess they stopped jacking threes and started going down low with the ball. GeotechDuck No. 19 Share Posted 14 hours ago Evans has been a real bright spot the last month or so. He had a lot of Angel’s typical minutes in the second half today and I think the team played better with him on the floor. IMO, Oregon needs Evans to continue to play like that and take that spot on the floor in order to make a run in March. If Angel is not making 6-8 shots a game or consistently getting to the line, then he is not adding a ton of value when in the game. I think an announcer said it best about a week ago. Angel is not a great athlete, but he is a very good basketball player. That sums it up perfectly, and is the reason he struggles on the defensive end.

And they played defense like they wanted to win in the second half. They forced 17 turnovers and shut down their scorers. If they gave that kind of effort on the defensive end every game, they might be in the top 4 in the conference standings. Let’s hope they figure it out. When he comes out with energy he's tough to stop on both sides of the floor and Angel can be good but I haven't seen much energy from him lately. When Evan stays in his Lane and isn't out shooting 3's he can be more dynamic in the rebounding game. For that matter, there's only three people on this team. I want to see shooting threes Shelstad, Bartholomew, and Tracy everyone else is better off rebounding. 1

30Duck Author Moderator No. 28 Share Posted 13 hours ago Angel: 19 minutes, 0 points, 1 rebound, 0 assists, 1 turnover, 1 foul, and this wasn't a particularly bad game for him this season. Evans needs to get more PT, if it's at Angel's expense, all the better, this game, and all season, Angel is better on offense than defense. It wasn't a miracle that they won, and not to take away from the win; as great as it was, it just makes me shake thinking about the losses. Oregon really just played harder in the second half than in the first. Is this the Altman turnaround? Three games left. USC, Indiana @ home, finish @ Washington. 1

30Duck Author Moderator No. 32 Share Posted 11 hours ago I'm thinking, hoping, that consistency for Evans will come with consistent minutes. This was a particularly bad game for Angel, but it isn't like we're all saying, "how'd that happen?" He's awful on defense, doesn't rebound and can't score in the paint. Bamba's D has kept him in the line-up, and his offense has been better in the winning streak. Making sure Bittle at least gets a touch in halfcourt possessions is a must. Early 3's are a killer, especially when you're 4-16. 1

GeotechDuck No. 34 Share Posted 10 hours ago I think it is amazing what Altman has done with this bunch. You essentially have a bunch of players that are good in one area of the game and not very many pieces that are “complete players”. Bittle and Shelstad are the closest things to “complete players” but can be streaky and inconsistent at times. 1

Agreed, on O he's better at being fed the ball down low than trying to create his own shots dribbling which is what has been going on with him lately. I really liked his game at Stanford, felt like they got him the ball as he was heading towards the basket l. Evans was more productive when he was starting, learning to come off the bench is not easy for a guy who probably never had to do that in highschool.

JabbaNoBargain No. 38 Share Posted 9 hours ago I think UW had 17 turnovers give or take and averages closer to 6, was all about the D. I really don’t recall seeing Angel from about the 4th quarter mark on. If Bamba was the scoring threat he was supposed to be we’d be rounding into a very dangerous tournament team. BTW - why is this the only version of basketball without quarters?

His D on Tonje was HUGE. 6 points in the 2nd half. All season, Bamba's been the best defensive player on the team, enough so, that even with his shooting y=trouble, he couldn't be kept off the court. Except for his shooting, he's good at everything else, definitely the most physical player. His shooting has improved during the winning streak, MacLean pointed out that a shooter has to be free, just let it go. Bamba may have been the opposite but is getting more confident just in time. 1
spartan2785 No. 40 Share Posted 6 hours ago I have a lot of thoughts I only just watched the game. I had stuff to do on this Saturday, was able to watch the first half until we got down by around 10 or 12. After I got down with my errands I checked the score thinking we probably lost by around 18 or so based on what I had saw so far. Pleasantly surprised of course. After watching the game we got a bit lucky, Wiscy missed some open 3s, not a huge amount, but enough that I thought a normal shooting night by them probably dooms us. What we did do well was play active defense, and it really showed why Angel needs to see his minutes reduced to around 10 a game. Bench him, he give us nothing unless he's hitting some shots. This team needs Evans and Cook getting the majority of the minutes at the 4, they don't give us much in shot making, but the defense is so much better! I will take Evans giving effort and energy, he'll get some hustle buckets and the defense is immensely better, the rebounding is better, everything is better other than the shooting. Cook as well needs to be averaging at least 12-15 minutes a game, he hustles, he can switch on defense, and he'll also give us something in the transition game. We need to go small from here on out. We just can't matchup on defense when we play Angel and Bittle/Cook. I might try Angel at the 5, but I don't think that will go well at all. Bamba really bums me out. If he just had an average shooting season compared to his first 4 years he would be a fan favorite, he has never gotten down on himself, he takes pride in his defense and he seems to be a team first guy, I know that his shooting woes have probably upset himself more than anyone else. He's broken in that regard, but he is still finding ways to help the team. Shelstad is simply clutch, nothing more to be said. Bittle battled, he's trying to lead the team, came up big in the second half and the overtime. He needs help from his teammates on the pick and roll action, but he's working down low. In the end this could be a turning point, it really frustrates me that it took this long to finally bench Angel for significant portions of a game. He's a good player, but he doesn't work in this system as a 4, and I don't see the complementary players that could allow him to play as a 5. I don't think you completely forget about him, but if he's not shooting he needs a tight leash on his minutes. 1 1
