The B1G got eight teams into the Tournament:

Oregon  No. 5 Seed

Michigan No. 5

Maryland No. 4

Michigan State No. 2

UCLA No. 7

Illinois No. 6

Purdue No. 4

Wisconsin No. 3

Mr. FishDuck

I'm bracing for a terrible tip off time that starts before noon on a Thursday. I can't watch any games that start before noon, so I missed the Indiana and Michigan State games.

Doubt it will be before noon since it's on the west coast, we'll probably be in the afternoon slot.

We pay attention to metrics when we want to. UNC + Texas in, Indiana and Ohio State out?

I direct you to Animal House when Delta was up before the Disciplinary Committee.

North Carolina might not beat San Diego State in the Play-in Round, but that they got in , over West Virginia, Indiana, anybody really, is a joke.

No dance card Sixty-eight teams get into the NCAA tournament. There is discussion about possibly blowing that number up to 76...

The Ducks are 8-0 in their opening game with Altman, 50% they win the first 2 games. CBS guys like the Ducks to get to the Sweet 16.

Looks like we lucked out for all those who still have to work during the day, 7:10 on Friday, perfect time for me, I always like being the late game during the tournament.

Dang, that's 1:10 here and interfering with my aloha nap time.  Guess it will have to be a 1 martini/mai tai tax deductible lunch.  The sacrifices that one must make 🤪

My heart bleeds for you!

So a sweet 16 matchup with Duke? Am I a jerk if I hope the Flagg kid rolls his ankle one more time in about 10 days?

Greg Sankey wants the field to expand so the SEC can have more teams in the field. 🤑

87.5% of the SEC is in the field. I guess it Won't Mean More without a clean sweep.

LSU (where has Pistol Pete gone?) and South Carolina, sit back, relax, and get ready to count the Tourney money 😎

$2M for showing up = $28M for the SEC. A conference receives money as teams advance, up to $8.33M for a team that makes the Final 4. There is no additional money for champ game participants.

10:10 on the Right Coast. 😧 When it comes to sports broadcasts, this is no country for old men!

Oh well, coffee and bagels with the recording instead of IPAs and pretzels past midnight. 🍻

Liberty head coach Ritchie McKay

24-29 Portland State, 1-1 vs Ducks

37-23 Colorado State

22-37 Oregon State, 0-4 vs Ducks

82-69 New Mexico, 1-1 vs Ducks

39-28 Liberty (2007-09)

233-105 Liberty (2015-25)

Oregon State – preceded by Eddie Payne, followed by Jay John

New Mexico – preceded by Fran Fraschilla, followed by Steve Alford

McKay notes:

coached Seth (not Steph) Curry for one year at Liberty

won at UCLA in December 2018 causing Alford to be fired by UCLA mid-season

ironically, Alford was hired at New Mexico after McKay was fired

Looks like deja vu all over again, with Oregon's basketball roster being too much for Liberty, just as the football team was. Even-up, the 3 pt shooting and defense by Liberty would be scary. But if the Ducks can summon Coach Dale a bit, they don't have to pass 4 times before a shot, but Bittle has to get a touch in every half court possession, Liberty won't have a chance.

Of course not….

But beating Duke, without Flagg playing, just would not be the same. It would still be a good win, of course, but nowhere near the shocking upset if Flagg had been on the floor.

But looking ahead is dangerous…..especially in March Madness.

Every year there are shocking first round upsets, and the Ducks need to be ready to play against Liberty …….and avoid looking ahead to a likely matchup with Duke.

Will Coach K be on hand to lecture Oregon players, should the Ducks hand the Blue Devils their lunch, again?

I don't care if it's a "shocking upset". Not that Boucher was a candidate for POY, but when he went down with a torn ACL before Pac-12 Championship game against Arizona, the teams that Oregon played, and beat, up to the Final 4 against UNC, took the games very seriously.

According to yesterday's B1G Today program, Oregon got the best draw of the eight B1G teams in the tourney.

Other takes: Michigan as a 5-seed is an insult. Wisconsin sent to Denver where it could meet BYU at altitude in the 2nd game instead of Milwaukee is a hose job. UNC in over both Indiana and Ohio State is disrespectful. Many of the SEC teams in the tourney had losing records in-conference. Still the B1G with eight teams in is well represented.

The B1G team with the 2nd best draw and one expected to make the Elite 8 is Maryland. A half court heave loss to Michigan State and a Danny Ainge coast-to-coast lay up at the buzzer loss.

Nine Takes on the Tourney from NCAA.com.

The dance card is filled, and now the 22-day search for a national champion can begin. Oh, if only the bracket could talk. Maybe it can. Here are nine things it was saying after Selection Sunday.

Michigan, and Michigan State are in the same region as Auburn. The Committee didn't do overall No.1 seed Auburn any favors, handing the Tigers a possible 2nd round matchup vs. ACC runner up Louisville in Lexington, Kentucky.

Hats off to the B1G Women! A record 12 teams in the Tournament,. UCLA is the overall No. 1 seed and USC is also a No. 1 seed; OBD as reported earlier comes in as a 10-seed.

GO DUCKS!

No……coach K isn’t around, and neither is Dillon Brooks.

Nice pick, Connor, you'd be welcome at FishDuck! Oregon goes 2-0 vs Duke in the Sweet 16, but Alabama get revenge for the beating early in the season. It could happen.

I just watched the 2017 Elite 8 game where OBD smoked Kansas.  It has me jazzed up for the tourney this year.  GO DUCKS!

(Oh, and in that game I saw just ONE play involving the weave offense.  Ah, better times ..............)

Another huge "If only" for OBD. If only Boucher hadn't blown out his knee in the Pac-12 Tourney...

But Bell played huge in this game (as did others) ... almost getting a triple double.  I agree.  Boucher would have made a difference in the Final 4.  What were his block numbers?  3 or 4 per game?  He intimidated players driving to the hoop.

This 2017 team was full of really tough guys like Ennis, Boucher, Bell, Brooks, Dorsey and Pritchard.

Jordan Bell shut down the paint in that game. A truly dominant performance.

I still can't believe the SEC got 14 teams in. Oklahoma and Texas really got the benefit of the doubt. I guess Finebaum can crow about the SEC bring the best basketball league unless they flame out. Personally I think Duke is the best team right now, but Flagg needs to play for them to win it all. That guy is amazing.

As far as the Gators. We have a 7 foot 9 freshman that doesn't need a ladder to cut the nets.  Who's the tallest Duck player ever?

The tallest player to ever play at Oregon, for a short time, is Bol Bol, all 7'3 of him. Duke & Flagg are great, but my pick is Florida. The back court can shoot, all have handles, and are 6'4, 6'4, 6'5, 6'4, 6'2, 6'3, 6'4. Greedy, much!

I hope you're right!! There's been a common theme in three of the losses this year and really the one blowout to Tennessee, but Florida was never in that game.

Kentucky, Missouri and Georgia all blitzed out to twenty points leads in the first fifteen minutes. Florida crawled back but ran out of steam. Golden likes to implement a fast pace the first ten minutes of each half and then slow it down to rely on and defense and rebounding. But if the guys aren't making quick and crisp passes and missing on the outside it leaves them open to the other team to push the ball with a man advantage because the forwards are usually in position for rebounds. The problem with missed threes is the ball bounces out further than the forwards are positioned.

Florida is built on structure on defense. The wings are long and can switch onto multiple guys. They are sound on positioning for offensive rebounds down low, but the quick pace throws that out of whack with missed jumpers from beyond the arc.

Saint Johns worries me because Pitino is the master of the game plan that Golden uses. They have the perfect quick strike runners and are very disciplined on assignments. Florida can't afford two pass possessions against a team like that.

The Boston Celtics are being sold for what would be a record-setting initial valuation of $6.1 billion to a group led by Symphony Technology Group managing partner William Chisholm.

$6.1 BILLION (!) for the The Olde Towne Team? How do you calculate a decent, if any, ROI from this? Chisholm and friends are blazing a new trail. 🤑

Hopefully, they'll give Jody Allen a call.

Oregon got hosed in the CFP. But Louisville got it even worse in the NCAA Tournament. Louisville finished No. 10 in the final AP Poll, and got an 8 seed, against 9, unranked, Creighton. The winner gets overall No.1, Auburn.

Creighton gets Auburn. Louisville cut it to 14, 89-75 for a final, but it was more than that for a lot of the game.

Louisville, playing in Lexington, KY, and after beefing about the No. 8 seed looked lost vs. Creighton. How bad was the ACC this season and how good is Duke?
