I just saw that Jon. I heard there was a meeting scheduled for today so it was probably decided this past Monday. I'm glad Billy went out with a win, but the air feels a little fresher. That sounds terrible, but the man was just in over his head. He'll get ten million dollars to soothe the pain. He'll get an additional 13 million spread out over the next four years if he isn't hired by anybody else.

Time to move on. Who's next?

No.

James Franklin on deck?

He DID promise his next team was gonna win CHAMPIONSHIPS!

On a serious note, GAT, good luck findinga good coach.

It's been weird not having Florida keep Mari 00 in line.

Steve Spurrier said there were three steps that any Gator coach had to complete to be a success.

1.) Win the state- That means recruiting and beating FSU and Miami.

2.) Win the SEC- Obviously that means beating Georgia, Tennessee, and LSU. The traditional big three rivalries which will now change as the Florida vs LSU rivalry will not be protected.

3.) Compete for National Titles- You gotta do the first two before you can even contemplate the third. Well maybe not anymore, the playoff opens up the chance for programs like Alabama and Ohio State to win the title without winning their league.

I still think all three would be the goal every year. Florida hasn't won anything since 2008, so there's going to be a process. I think the program is going to go after a proven P4 head coach this time. I think Jon Gruden would be an interesting choice to go along with Kiffin, Fisch, and Franklin.

Will Wisconsin, South Carolina, North Carolina, and FSU soon follow suit?

Probably not a great time for Arkansas, UCLA, Virginia Tech, and Oklahoma State to be looking for a proven P4 coach imo. Arkansas and UCLA might just stick with Petrino and Skipper.

Franklin was in the SEC at Vandy. If I were him I would be calling Florida to tell them I can be there for cocktails this evening and let's make a deal. His payments from Penn State could give Florida some flexibility for Napier's severance payment and other cost factors.

Will be interesting to see where d-coordinator Jim Knowles ends up.

FSU's Norvell can't be feeling too comfortable today.

I donโ€™t think Brian Kelly is working out in Baton Rouge. FSU and USC could open up as well. There are going to be some traditionally good programs fighting over coaches. I think the days of taking their pick of coaches are over. I donโ€™t see many of these guys moving from a good situation to a rebuilding job with impatient administrators, fans and boosters.

The minute the Gator AD heard Franklin say he was gonna win a National Champioship somewhere, i think HR and legal started drafting the termination papers for Billy.

Franklin has all the ingredients to return to the SEC......why not at Florida? He is a step up from Napier for sure.

Billy will land on his feet, afterall he is a good coach.

I think guys like Luke Fickell or Scott Frost will serve as a cautionary tale going forward. But there will always be those programs that will always get a guy to pick up the phone and probably a raise. Penn State and Florida are two of those jobs. The resources and prestige that goes along with the recruiting base is going to tempt anyone.

Oregon is now one of those jobs btw. Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Georgia, LSU, Texas and USC are in that category.

I think Fisch would be the best choice. And I'm not just saying that for the Husky tears, though that too. But honestly, I think he is a great coach and he has connections and probably understands the environment better than most. He can also adapt to get it done.

Kiffin would be fun.

Franklin I think needs a year off. The difference in how Penn State played yesterday was starkly different from the games post Oregon loss. Like someone cleared the room of the toxicity. Franklin became toxic at PSU after the Oregon loss I'm sure. He's a good coach and will find a spot but I don't think Florida is going to go for someone who has a reputation of losing the big games.

Just my takes.

I bet they go for Kiffin or someone flashy don't snub Fisch... If I were to place a bet at this very moment.

Did Joni Mitchell have the domino-driven effect of firing college head football coaches in mind when she wrote โ€˜The Circle Gameโ€™?
