At the end of the game when the outcome was not in doubt....they announced that Dan Lanning has the highest winning percentage of any current FBS coach. Now that is pretty incredible, but I assume they attached some requirements such as coaching for four years?

Otherwise Cignetti would have the highest percentage, I believe.

Regardless, it is pretty amazing and I have to appreciate what we have. No matter how good it gets--things change, and you can point to a bunch of programs currently as proof. So we have to savor it while we can, and what a wonderful moment we bask in now.

Charles, i did hear that comment but there wasn't much information offered, other than the comment.

We, as Duck fans are in a special place, for sure! Who would have foreseen that OBD's only loss last year was to the eventual NC. And our only loss this season is to the current #1 team. With a clear shot at redemption.

Over the years, Duck coaches have lost games to teams they should have beaten. In some cases, those losses kept Oregon out of title games or a shot at the Natty.

DL seems to have that resolved. Now the only challenge left is to win the Natty.

Wonderful time to be a Duck and to be a OBDF member.

I really really want Oregon and Lanning to win the Peach Bowl and get a shot at the Natty. I'm fighting the pessimism right now.

I’ve just gotta say that you all make ME look pretty smart and well informed among the group of guys I play poker with each week. Thank you all for that, and especially to Charles for the opportunity he gave us all.

I think this depends on how you present Cignetti's coaching record. Cignetti is 25-2 at Indiana but he's has been a head coach a lot longer than Lanning. Previously, he's been a head coach at JMU (5 years w/ 52-9 record), Elon (2 years/14-9), and Indiana University Pennsylvania (5 years, 53-17). By my math his complete record as a head coach would be 144 - 37 with an very impressive winning percentage of 79.6%. However, Lanning as a first time head coach at Oregon is currently sits at 48-7 or 87.3% winning percentage.

We have a couple of people like HDuck who bring in great information for the benefit of us all, and I certainly want to encourage you and everyone to chip in like this; thanks again.

I'd like a requirement for "winningest head coach" of 4 years, and as head coach at the same school.

I wasn't sure we'd ever have another Oregon coach with a good shot of exceeding Chip Kelly's 4 year winning record of 86.8%. But Lanning is certainly going for it. After 3 years, 87.3% is just crazy nuts.

Cignetti has coached a long time. It must be the overall win/loss record.

First 4 seasons as a first-time head coach and doing it at a NW school

49-4 – Chris Petersen - BSU

48-7 – Dan Lanning - Oregon

46-7 – Chip Kelly - Oregon

47-10 - Brent Vigen - Montana State

Didn't check small colleges like Linfield for a first-time head coach.

No. 4 does make one wonder if Beavis made their hiring decision too quickly?

On a separate note, Beavis now has 23 guys in the exit portal and counting. On the other hand, saw a report that next year opponent Oklahoma St has 45 and counting.

Dan Lanning is also getting HEAPS of praise from the national sports media for his take on how the playoffs in college football should be run.

We have a pretty smart coach folks. 😉
