Tosh Helped Taki Get Past the "Husky-to-Duck" Problem

Recommended Posts

This is an excerpt from "The Athletic" and I cannot post a subscription article, but this tells us a ton about our new DC...

Identity Crisis? No, everyone knows Who Huskies' Taki Taimani Is - Sports Illustrated Washington Huskies News, Analysis and More

Taki Taimani: "Oregon came into the picture at the beginning of the portal. I had offers from Michigan, LSU, Nebraska, Baylor. I was talking to Nebraska ... Oregon came into the picture with Tony going over there, and then we talked a little bit more, and I just talked about 'I’m a Husky,' you know? I was taught to hate Oregon. So it was hard for me. I told him that. Coaching-wise, there has to be something that pulls me there. I had a good talk with (new Oregon coach Dan) Lanning and his whole scheme and what he wanted to do, and it really impressed me."

"He had told me who the DC would be, Tosh (Lupoi), and I have a really good relationship with Tosh...me and Tosh sat down and talked, and he told me he was a Husky, too, and he understands what it’s going to be like to do that. He went through his phase of not liking Oregon, too, and he said, 'I promise you, (the criticism) will be bad, but I’ll be right here with you. You won’t just take the heat by yourself. It’s going to be me and you.' And I was like, well, yep, then let’s do it."

"Going to Oregon, I see people talk about them throwing me money, but to be real, there was no money thrown at me. I went there because of Tosh, the coaching aspect and Lanning — what they have to provide."

After Oregon winning 15 of the last 17 games....the color has become benign.  No biggie.

I have to think that green cars don't sell well in Seattle?

Key symptoms: swollen head, delusions of grandeur and repeated mumbling about the early nineties as if it was yesterday.

Don't forget the statewide brain-fart of 2016.

The important item is he will, undoubtedly, feel like he just moved from a JC program to a D1 program.

I mean the dawgs lost to Montana, and if you follow the loss trail connects them to a loss to a team called the penguins. I mean who loses to the penguins, a bird which can't fly, and can barely walk.

We welcome all extremely talented football players who have made such a mistake. We even welcomed DJ Johnson who mistakenly signed on to a team whose mascot is a weather pattern. He has done amazingly well in our conversion program.

Welcome Taki, which means falling water. You find as much falling water, but at least you won't be part of a failing program anymore.

This is why Oregon has failed to break into the State of Washington recruiting wise. Keep in mind during the Cristobal era that MC managed to pull top talent if not THE top recruit out of every single state in the Pac-12 footprint (and some outside of it) EXCEPT for Washington.

This is the first HUGE recruiting win for Lanning. Breaking into the State of Washington has been impossible for Oregon to do over the years but pulling a Husky right out of the transfer portal to Oregon is a big start.

That is a fascinating observation. As the 13th most populace state with a long border and interstate connecting us we only have 1 walk-on from Washington.

If I had to choose, I suppose I would choose beating, actually dominating, the dawgs than having Washington talent on the team. If it is a choice then we have made the right one!
