Oregon Football All-Time Roster: Defensive Starters and Backups

Recommended Posts

This article is taken off the FishDuck Feed. Unlike the earlier article on the all-time offense which included more recent players, this article on the defensive players reaches back to some interesting names.

See if you agree with the choices? If not, who would you replace with?

I have far fewer problems with this than I did with the offensive list, of course Ngata is there, and yes, TJ Ward!

The DB’s were well represented. That’s a tough team to make as a CB or Safety. A lot of great ones didn’t make it. I also think that Wesley Mallard should’ve been one of the LB’s just because of his name.

Hard to not have DeForest Buckner on the DL list somewhere. The secondary is another difficult group to crack but it would be tough to leave out Rashad Bauman.

And I feel Kiko Alonso should probably make that list.

I love Troy Dye... But I feel Alonso probably has the edge on him.

I wonder where Cliff Harris would be on that list if he would have been able to stay on the team for a full 3-4 years.  That dude was dominate.

Yes Cota was part of the Gang Green defense, but the facts are we lost in the 1995 Rose Bowl. We didn't win the 1994 Rose Bowl.

It was a massive moment for the program to finally get back to the Rose Bowl.  The Gang Green defense outdid the much vaunted desert swarm from Arizona, who made the cover of SI. We came up short against Penn State, but it was a moment where the program turned the corner.

The 1994 season, and the 1995 Rose Bowl may rank up there as one of the most important times in Oregon Football history.

What about Jalen Jelks?

He has to be around 150ish career tackles? Probably around 15-20 sacks, 20-25 tackles for loss?

His junior year was his best and I remember he led the team in TFL.

Ugh. Yes. Missed Jalen Jelks. I probably would add him around JD Nelson and Avery Patterson, about #75?

Great Duck. Even for a long time Duck fan, 30 + years is a tough undertaking (as the memory does fade and there just are a number of things to weigh). I probably need to update to add in at least McKinley III and Wright to the list. I'm just realizing, where is Spenser Paysinger? Got to be top 40.

And I am happy to be wrong, so if there is a wrong or a big ommission, just fire away...

6 interceptions in 2010. Dude was scary on punt returns too. Absolute lock down corner. Harris and Ifo are my top 2 corners.

Too bad he got caught up with drugs and crime. It happens to a lot of us. Some of us get to turn it around and participate in society again.

Hope Colts gets to climb back up that mountain and stand with us. Tough climb that so few of us find success making it back to the top of.

It’s hard to believe that you left a Rose Bowl HOFer off this list.

Yes, missing Eddie Pleasant, and I just noticed no Brady Breeze either. So many great Ducks over the years.
