No, I'm not getting into the stalking zone here, but the buyouts of recently fired coaches.  Below are stats from a recent John Canzano article, and it strikes me how you could make a name for yourself as an OC or DC and guarantee being a rich man no matter what.

You get hired as a head coach and whether you succeed or fail...you are set for life, and then some.  Willie Taggart can enjoy just coaching at a smaller school because it doesn't matter for him, since Florida State paid him 16 million to go away.

Usually if you get someone that mad at you--there is a restraining order involved, not a lucrative buyout.  When you think about it--it is quite the racket to get-rich-regardless of the results!

•    Paul Chryst, Wisconsin: $16.4 million
•    Karl Dorrell, Colorado: $8.7 million
•    Scott Frost, Nebraska: $15 million
•    Geoff Collins, Georgia Tech: $11.4 million
•    Herm Edwards, ASU: $9.4 million

And yes, Oregon is part of that racket as well.  No halos anywhere!

Mr. FishDuck

Heck for that $$$,

Not only can they tell me to go, but they can say where!

I might even listen

Great insight, Charles. Quite the money exchange for failure. Though it is a bit apples to oranges, here are some fun numbers:

Cristobal buy out                $9 mill

MC 2022 salary                   $4.7 mill

MC bonuses saved             $1 mill

Asst coaches saved (est)  $1.8 mill

DL contract                          $4.6 mill

Additional Asst. coaches

    salaries 2022 v 2021      $0.7 mill

Oregon comes out way ahead financially and Miami picks up our bar tab.

I don't like not knowing what the next play Oregon is going to run next. I dream of the previous staff's predictability, said no one!

I am regularly being reminded at how fortunate we were that Miami came calling for Mario.

And Lanning came to Eugene.

Oh how I miss plod ball and losing to Stanford. <end sarcasm>

All of Oregon's opponents miss Cristo-ball too....

They did film study and defensive planning for 1/2 hour on Monday morning and then had shave ice and BBQ the rest of the week.

What a wonderful world that we can pay incredible amounts of money for incompetence. What is overlooked here is the cost of revenue loss to these institutions in ticket, hot dog, parking, Beer, apparel, and a host of other factors that escapes my pea brain at the moment. Be fun to know what that number is.

Beer being the most important. 🤪
