The Grey Uniforms and "The Rest of The Story"

Recommended Posts

The grey uniforms didn't seem to bother the men's basketball team.

Final:

Oregon - - -  82

UCLA - - - -  74

The refs worked hard to keep UCLA closer than they should have been.

Ducks D and execution in the second half, PRICELESS!

Good game. Very close most of the way. Bruins had a good hot streak in the 2nd half. Soon after Walton asked, "Can they sustain it?" the Ducks made their move.

Happy dance.

AMAZING Duck victory!  Ducks we’re getting owned through early second quarter.  No D in the paint.  No Offense on the other side.  Then: Figueroa, 3 straight baskets.  Omo and Duarte added intensity.  Finally, Richardson asserted some offense.  Good D by Lawson on full court press, and an important 3 point play.  Result?  Bruins go down!  Good coaching by Altman to keep his guys from not giving up when it looked like it was getting away.  Great game!

The three headed monster became the five headed monster tonight as Richardson got into the scoring action and Williams Jr. cleaned up the glass and played aggressive D. The other heads (Omoruyi, Duarte and Figueroa) are in a classic rhythm right now. Their lines for the last several games are fantastic.

Now we have to lock down the Beavers. We didn't play well at all the first game with them as we were missing key pieces. Gotta come into that game and play all in.

I have to say that Bill offered much more useful commentary in this one than usual. I especially liked at the end when he compared this Ducks team to the first Bruins championship team, back in 1964. They won by never stopping, non-stop aggression, especially on defense, the other team becomes careless, Ducks pick up the turnovers, and it's done.

I know I'm probably in the minority here but I usually find Walton quite entertaining... Not from an informational point of view but from the reactions whoever his commentator is during the game.

Usually the other commentator just can't deal with it and either tried to redirect him and make him more focused or just gives up.

However, this is usually only amusing while the Ducks are winning... Otherwise he is super annoying.

When I saw the grey uniforms?  NEVER a doubt in my mind!

And that is one of the most tongue-in-cheek things I've written.  I admit my heart sank when I saw the grey unis, but apparently...it is a football thing.

Down nine for a while and getting our butt kicked and pulling out of it?  Wow.  The best the team has looked this year; what a great time!

I have gotten into a practice that if Walton is there my sound gets turned down to "0". It's the only way I can handle him. I can't imagine why he is still here year after year.

"Eugene, from Eugene and in Eugene" I love it. Give me more Bill Walton.

Not sure why we had those grey uniforms. Not attractive, I will take yellow and green please.

Walton also saw that the press wasn't handled by UCLA. 'Why wasn't UCLA ready for the press.' The Ducks have the talent and the skill players to a ways in the tourney. Should be fun to watch!

What I saw was an intensity few teams have. I will start a thread soon, but what Altman creates is unique and hard to quantify. His teams just get it done as the season progresses.

Very, very true on many counts.  I do encourage EVERYONE to start threads with items to discuss and ponder, and this is a good one.  (And you have been great about posting topics, Hayward--thanks!)

After saying this line, several times, he added this: "Eugene, from Eugene, in Eugene, for Eugene."
