Georgia, particularly its defense, is dominating this game, thus far. They are getting a lot of pressure on the Bama QB and he is clearly uncomfortable.

The punt block has fired up the Dawgs offense. Kirby said special teams might be significant.

WSJ - Unruly Market in Teen Sports Tears a Family Apart
My grandson is about to graduate from an online academy. His PE requirements are handled in a local gym/fitness center. Last week, he was offered a tryout personal trainer, who happened to be a former sprinter. They ended up running some sprints, and the guy was impressed enough he brought up the possibility of a scholarship and guaranteed spot on a high level track squad... My grandson is 17. When my son was recovering from a knee injury in his junior year of hs, a booster offered to pay him to attend Marist... Yup, it's not new, but it's definitely getting worse, very quickly.

Penn State AD Pat Kraft Despises Oregon
I really like the hire of Buster Faulkner as offensive coordinator, and the defensive coordinator from Kentucky(name slips my mind). Faulkner is probably going to be a head coach in the next couple years, but the fact Sumrall said he was going to get a big time guy, and not one of his buddies from Tulane, and he did it. Well that already makes him better than Billy Napier. Napier was given the money to build a staff, but he decided to just hire his Sun Belt buddies, and you saw the results. Time mismanagement, penalties, player regression, and an offense so full that you would prefer to hear Bill Belichick narrate a documentary on paint drying. I never wanted Kiffin, there was a leaked story that Scott Stricklin didn't either. It's why he wasn't hired in 2017, 2022, or this year. Kiffin wanted full control, and his GM from Ole Miss. Stricklin matched the money from LSU, he even matched the increased player payroll. But he made it clear that Kiffin would still answer to him. He also wanted to hire an experienced NFL GM. Kiffin obviously took this as an insult, Stricklin agreed. This way Stricklin could say he made an actual effort, but Lane just turned him down. Which is what he wanted. Stricklin is a buttoned down individual, he hates silly antics online. It's why he hired paint chip Billy Napier in the first place. I wanted Fisch, but we didn't get him. I hope Sumrall proves all the doubters wrong, he is a fiery dude. One that secured two recruiting classes for Tulane, and Florida. All the while, he was getting his team ready to play for a CCG, and playoff berth. I look at what he's doing as a great sign of his character, and ability to delegate. I get alpha vibes from the man, he makes you want to hear what he is planning on doing, and you believe he's going to succeed. Very much like your head coach, Dan Lanning. I was disappointed initially, but am now cautiously optimistic. He's going to be compared to what Lane is doing at LSU. Fair or not.

Both these offenses look inept. I don’t think it’s good defense. The play-calling is unispired and ineffective.

Have also been wondering about what the playoff committee would do in that scenario...

Top SEC defenses just look different to me, especially on the front 7. They are BIG and athletic.

Tech averages 489 yards total offense per game this season. When they played BYU they were held to 370 both games. BYU has the 29th best defense in CFB. Oregon is 4th.

I am rooting for Georgia to win big, as I want to see what the playoff committee then does with Alabama and how they justify them over a number of very good 2 loss teams. Thoughts?

I hadn't really watched Texas Tech this year until this game. Their defensive line is scary good and they look like a very complete team. I'm not at all sure this is an easier team to play than others that might end up in the top 4. It will be interesting to see if they remain our projected first opponent after the other games today.

I understand your point of view, if you think the current system is flawed. I am in the minority here and would like to see OBD get a bye. One less game to potentially have a season ending injury to a key player is one of the reasons. Needing to win 3 games for a title versus 4 games is also appealing to me. I also trust that Coach Lanning has learned how to better prepare to win playoff games even with a long layoff.

This is an unlocked article from the Wall Street Journal although it sometimes looks like you need to subscribe, you do not. I always knew about shady money in college football but did not know it exists in high school as well. Foolish me. https://www.wsj.com/us-news/football-high-school-nil-phillip-bell-81270bdf?st=HNcz8R&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink

TT still having some red zone and capitalizing after turnover offensive issues. Giving whoever they play in the quarters plenty of tape.
-
Big 12 Championship Game Thread
I don't see TT moving up to #3 if UGA wins and the B1G CG is close. A single loss to #1 OSU is much better than TT's loss to ASU and Indiana drops to #3 at worst. BYU keeps giving TT the ball. Mistakes Oregon won't make.

Is a long playoff run (or more teams in the playoff) worth more $$$ to the conferences than a conference championship game?
-
Big 12 Championship Game Thread
If that was the case pulling their starters at halftime would be a mute point. Reading this board everyday and just about everyone is rooting for the Duck not to be in the top 4 considering every team in the to 4 lost last year. My point is that current system is flawed if a team took a dive to improve their playoff chances I wouldn't blame them.

Big 12 Championship Game Thread
I think they already have a reason to win. Win and they can move up to #3 and out of the side of the bracket with the #1 ranked team. A loss could even drop them below #8 and force them play a road game in round #1.

Big 12 Championship Game Thread
BYU has a sieve for an O-line and minimal downfield passing attack. TT just has too much talent and speed on both sides of the ball.
-
Big 12 Championship Game Thread
If TT wins , I see them moving up to #3 and Indiana or OSU with a loss falling to #4. I can easily see the committee ranking the 3 conference championship game winners 1, 2 & 3 and the loser of the BIG10 game at #4.
