  2. I'll add my meandering thoughts to this topic......the modern era of portal/NIL complicates traditional reason in this situation. Risk aversion has elevated in primacy. So has program narrative (team brand) to attract recruits/transfers. Novosad: has expressed his intention to stay and be developed. He is probably getting ample reps in practice to stay sharp and manage his health. If Dante can't play for an extended period of time, we could see him play and he is ready. Playing him in backup with a huge lead doesn't advance this strategy and would only attract NIL competition for him and build tape for opponents to study. Moga: somewhat likely to transfer. He can play as a starter somewhere next Fall but is unlikely to supplant Novo. Again if Dante is long term unavailable he elevates to 2nd string behind Novo and is available. Playing him in blowouts is of limited value. Thomas: most likely to transfer. Capable but undersized for P4. Local kid, loyal to the program and helps build the culture narrative. The program wants to elevate him as payback for walking on and contributing. Mop up duty helps him promote himself for transfer, communicates brand values. Low risk great story. The message is we value you as an individual talent and will help drive with your brand mission so long as it aligns with the team's. Or, I have deluded myself into this pretzel logic because I am a huge Duck homer.
  3. Oregon opens as 34.5-point favorites vs Wisconsin The opening 34.5-point spread for this week's Oregon Ducks game versus Wisconsin is the largest line against a conference opponent since 2015.
  4. We have a Preferred Walk-On Quarterback redshirting who could blow-up for us in the future. It is Wilsonville's Mark Wiepert, who was the State of Oregon POY on Offense this last season. In the State 5A Championship game he was responsible for EIGHT touchdowns between throwing three and running for five. (New State Record) The year before? He was the State of Oregon 5A POY on Defense. An extraordinary safety... But wait! He was also an incredible receiver for them. Beavis is not happy about his joining Oregon because he has originally verballed to receive a BASEBALL scholarship to Oregon State. He was first team All-State in Baseball for both his junior and senior year while batting .554 as a senior. Good Grief...is this guy an athlete or what? Here is his very interesting bio at GoDucks.com for you to consider... Wilsonville SpokesmanThe Super Man - Wilsonville's Mark Wiepert - Wilsonville...Wilsonville's Mark Wiepert is named Athlete of the Year for 2024-25. Whew!
  5. For those of you wanting to watch basketball this season, open your wallets. It's going to cost quite a bit to see all the games. Their are NINE (9) different networks televising this season's games. Listed below are the networks and how many games they are going to televise. B1G Ten (10) FS1 (8) Peacock (7) B1G Ten + (2) ACC, CBS, NBC, TNT and TRU each will show one game. Here's how it will break down. The first two games, Utah (B1G Ten +) and Stanford (ACC) are exhibition games. Rice (B1G Ten +) Purdue (CBS) Michigan (NBC) San Diego St. (TNT) Auburn (TRU). B1G Ten FS1 Peacock Hawaii Oregon St. San Diego St. U.C. Davis USC UCLA Portland Michigan St. Gonzaga Omaha Iowa Maryland Ohio St. Indiana Rutgers Nebraska Minnesota Washington UCLA USC Illinois Penn St. Washington Wisconsin Northwestern This is really disappointing. I don't have the Peacock Network and they are going to show some really great games. I have YouTube TV and get almost all channels. For the record, the regular season starts on Tuesday, November 4th. Go Ducks!
  6. Novosad makes sense. It opens up the possibility of an extra medical redshirt season down the road. Moga must be hurt. I think if you can get a rFR QB 100+ snaps as primary backup, most places do it. Even though he doesn't have a ton of snaps, Novosad was a former top (#126 nationally, #10 QB, with listed visits to Oregon, Ohio State, and Baylor) who has sat behind some very good QBs. Opening up a possible 6th year might be a nod to a guy who has been behind two current NFL starters and a possible future NFL 1st rounder. Moga was a more developmental prospect (#516 nationally, #33 QB, with only an Oregon visit listed); and, it would seem more beneficial to push his development now to see where he is at if the opportunity is there (rather than an abundance of concern over 2029). That isn't a slight on Moga, it is the more regular college path to future meaningful pt. Even if he had fallen behind Thomas, there probably was a series or two available for him at Rutgers. Having almost nothing on film since high school for a former #516 recruit doesn't help finding a top transfer destination either. A guess but hurt (something like a lingering shoulder or hamstring) makes the most sense here.
  7. Take note my Duck-Buddies, as this was a masterclass...
  8. It is a good thing I never said I was noble, because there is too much good stuff to withhold about our favorite former coach.

  10. There was a similar trend against Penn State. Penn State got a ton of generous ball placements that gave them first downs. Where Oregon got the opposite. I remember Dante running and clearly got the first down before he started his slide but the refs marked him short so the Ducks had it at 4th and 1.... Granted Davison ran it in for a TD next play but still. It does feel like th Ducks are getting the hard mode treatment when it comes to refs this season. I thought a couple of the holding calls on Saturday were a bit dubious. Not that they weren't legit holding but when things are for the most part getting ignored but flags flying at certain times it seems funny.
  11. Many of you probably noticed this in earlier games, but I am not real swift.....Genorris Wilson playing right tackle with Harkey at right guard seems like a positive experiment
  12. I saw the Grateful Dead more times than I can remember in different towns and venues....but the best shows were always in Eugene. Even when the show itself wasn't an all timer, the town before and after the show was turned on, tuned in and in-flow. Keep on dancin' through the daylight (daylight) Greet the mornin' air with song (greet the mornin' air with song) No one's noticed, but the band's all packed and gone (packed and gone) Was it ever here at all? (Was it ever here at all?) But they keep on dancin'
  13. From what I saw, it was directed at OBD. They're last TD was pass interference. The WR pushed off. They also didn't earn that First Down at the 22 on that third down play. They should have been forced to go for it on 4th and 1. I was not pleased with the refs. It's like a conspiracy to prevent us becoming a blue blood. Something else though... ESPN noted we traveled back east twice before playing Indiana. Not sure that contributed, but OBD didn't look themselves against Indiana. I want pleased with the performance, but the two late INTs and said ref calls above decided the outcome. One thing I really appreciate about Lanning is we won't see many lethargic performances. You can tell he wants some more of Indiana. Not to mention Ohio State. There plenty to work on, but I'm hoping to see some major intensity against every team in the vicinity of our talent level. I have only seen that it Seattle. I want to see OBD play any elite team with that kind of intensity. I think OBD can stick with any of them if they play clean and hard.
  14. MaybeI won't come home with the munchies, like the few times I managed a concession stand for GD converts.
  15. Great take, but hopefully, it's a 16 or 17-game season? Yesterday, Whit was It!
  16. By now I probably shouldnโ€™t be, but Iโ€™m always surprised at how good the mottos are that Dan comes up with every week. Need a game day tee that says, โ€˜Time To Pay The Rentโ€™.
  17. As always, itโ€™s what inside the uniform that counts, but they do look pretty cool. Just keep on truckin, like the Doo-Dan man!
  18. Did Joni Mitchell have the domino-driven effect of firing college head football coaches in mind when she wrote โ€˜The Circle Gameโ€™?
  19. I think Fisch would be the best choice. And I'm not just saying that for the Husky tears, though that too. But honestly, I think he is a great coach and he has connections and probably understands the environment better than most. He can also adapt to get it done. Kiffin would be fun. Franklin I think needs a year off. The difference in how Penn State played yesterday was starkly different from the games post Oregon loss. Like someone cleared the room of the toxicity. Franklin became toxic at PSU after the Oregon loss I'm sure. He's a good coach and will find a spot but I don't think Florida is going to go for someone who has a reputation of losing the big games. Just my takes. I bet they go for Kiffin or someone flashy don't snub Fisch... If I were to place a bet at this very moment.
  20. I think guys like Luke Fickell or Scott Frost will serve as a cautionary tale going forward. But there will always be those programs that will always get a guy to pick up the phone and probably a raise. Penn State and Florida are two of those jobs. The resources and prestige that goes along with the recruiting base is going to tempt anyone. Oregon is now one of those jobs btw. Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Georgia, LSU, Texas and USC are in that category.
