Oregon's Quarterback Recruiting: Panic or Patience?
Charles Fischer replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
If there was EVER a team that could get an elite portal transfer QB...it is Oregon as has been proven the last three years. Nothing beats experience... -

David, I'm looking for RS Freshman Jeremiah McClellan (below) to have a big "move-up" year, while I could see Justius Lowe having a "break-out" year like the examples you gave. Dak Moore will just break-out and beyond... -

I too believe the worst part of this is Evan Stewart himself, good luck to him. As for the team, "Oregon has done well with the "next Man, or men, up" Remember when Blount was suspended, and it was up to Freshman, LaMichael James? -

I've never liked FSU, so I'm openly rooting for the Rodents to take them out and go to Omaha. If nothing else, it would be fun to have a sweep of the Natty winner. if not, how about Coastal Carolina? the B1G would pick up a bit in baseball if UCLA wins the 'ship, and OBD took 2 of 3 from them. -

Patience. Recruiting, don't we all miss the good old days? Now with NIL & the portal, the commitments mean less than ever. 2 sides jump out, USC-Riley, throw $$$$ at the recruits, get the No.1 class, or Oregon-Lanning, take your time, talk to the recruits, if they want to be Ducks, sign 'em up, the portal will be there. (Maybe with some of USC's commits). Slightly different, and I can't know, but I don't think Emmanuel Pregnon is thinking he wishes he was still at USC. - Today

June 8 - Arizona, the Eugene winner, just beat N. Carolina in the Super and is headed to Omaha. So, far on Sunday morning, 8 of the top 16 seeds have lost their home regional or Super Regional. If there was a year when the Ducks might have squeezed into Omaha, this might have been it. Darn. -

Going to throw out a crazy thing here... In 2014 Bralon Addison suffered an injury in the spring that knocked him out for the season and he was our most experienced returning receiver that year. But a couple redshirt freshman came in and made a massive impact along with a freshman. Devon Allen and Charles Nelson both had pretty good years, though Allen would be injured in the Rose Bowl, Darrin Carrington did pretty darn good too, though he sat out the national championship game due to failing a drug test. The Ducks moved Byron Marshall to receiver and he had the best year of all. And to top it all off Mariota won the Heisman. So inexperience is not everything but I think we'd all rather have Stewart in the lineup but I'm confident this staff will a solution. -

So this cycle has not really worked out as Oregon had hoped in quarterback recruiting. I mean it really started with the very late decision by 5-Star Jaron Keawe-Sagapolutele to sign and later end up at Cal. Can’t blame him for walking into the quarterback room at Oregon and feeling like it was a much easier path to start at Cal. Oregon moved on and made a massive push for 5-Star QB Jared Curtis who ultimately ended up at Georgia. In my mind with the way Oregon’s current quarterback room sets up, Curtis would have been an ideal and seamless transition for Dan Lanning Now that comes with variables as does the rest of this article. And keep in mind, Oregon is one of the best at giving themselves options and rolling with the punches. Because of the transfer portal you have to operate this way. And because of the transfer portal I’m also nearly zero concerned with Oregon signing a prep quarterback in this cycle. While it might be preferred, it wouldn’t be an issue if the Ducks miss on every option and hit the portal. The success rate in the portal has been really good at the position. But they continue on expanding options with a lot of uncertainty about how it could play out. Oregon's Quarterback Recruiting: Panic or Patience? - On3 WWW.ON3.COM Oregon is in on several top quarterbacks in this recruiting cycle but even if they miss out on all of them it could still work out.

Vice versa, perhaps? However, Feld didn't have the starting QB in good enough shape to play the 2nd half of MIA's bowl game.

Austin Novosad has played some...looked good in the Fiesta Bowl in mop-up time versus Liberty at the end of the 2023 season, and I was impressed with his Spring Game.

Georgia's TE room is so stacked that I doubt this is even in the cards. Plus, Georgia has another 5-Star TE that could commit relatively soon. One thing I do know is that were Bowman to flip to the Dawgs, Kirby Smart is not going to toy with team culture by paying Bowman 2 million a year. I'd far prefer to get a top RB and another DL for the money that would otherwise go Bowman's way.

How much do we really know about Moore's backup? I can't ever remember seeing the kid play.

Alexander the great believed elephants were a great unused resource for labor when he first began seeing different parts of the world. My question is if the elephants ever formed a union or asked for better peanuts while doing their jobs. They say an elephant never forgets. Also, which kind of elephants did Caeser and Cleopatra use the most? I'm assuming the African since Egypt is on that continent, and they're generally much bigger. But the Indian elephant might be a little easier on those roads.

Golden opportunity for certain players to make a big impression. To my mind: Last chances - Gary Bryant Jr. (final year) - Jurrion Dickey (3 years now, time to show something) - Malik Benson (final year) Big chance to break out: - Kenyon Saddiq (could we see 1,000 yards?) - Dakorien Moore (500+ yards would be a stellar 1st year) - Kyler Kasper (showed potential before injury last season) -

I had to think about this issue for awhile. Sankey just bamboozled the ACC and Big 12. They are going to regret going the 5-11 route. It essentially means the ACC and Big 12 will fill ONE SLOT EVERY YEAR IN THE PLAYOFFS. So basically, Clemson, FSU and Miami are going to start fighting for recruits with schools like USuC, Nebraska, Indiana, the Fuskies and Illinois on a regular basis, because all it will take is any of those teams winning 10 and the ACC is cooked. Reputation doesn't matter anymore. The ACC is Miami,FSU Clemson and Notre Dame. Norte Dame gets a free pass with 9 wins, with two against those three. The Big 12 probably wouldn't get two in if both had 11 wins because their SOS is totally weak (and all you have to do is watch them play-you can see the vast difference in talent -mid level SEC teams would storm the Big 12). The winner of course, will be the SEC. All it will take is teams like Auburn defeating Baylor, and Georgia Tech beating Colorado and the discussion is over. And the SEC will crow for centuries about the mediocrity in the Lesser Two. The only thing the lesser Two have going for them is scheduling. They'll have to start scheduling the P2 regularly. They'll have to demand it, in fact call out the P2 so they can schedule OOC games regularly. This is going to be interesting. The SEC knows this is a move to get five minimum every year. Petitti will have to explain himself because it just might impact the B1G as well. We know for a fact the SEC won't dare schedule the B1G in OOC games if this model goes through. Like I said, plenty of SEC teams will only need to defeat one SEC power to demand their spot. With an 8 game conference schedule, Vandy, Mississippi State, Kentucky, are gimmie wins for above average SEC teams. Add bad years for another two or three and you're looking at an easy five win SEC record. With the four high school teams they play, 9-3 is a playoff berth. That won't be as easy for the middle of the B1G to accomplish.
