Oregon Football: Time for the Ducks to Panic?

Yes to the more play action. Remember the run can set up the pass and the pass can set up the run (I think that happened Saturday at the end of the second quarter).

Oregon’s Biggest Nightmare: Indiana Winning It All

Yeah, I'm not sure Onio State is that far ahead of everyone else. They look really good, but so does Indiana. Something I haven't heard anyone mention at this point is the toughness of the Big 10 schedules. Oregon has 6 of the (at least present) top ten B1G teams on their schedule, Indiana 3 and Ohio State only 2. I think maybe the Buckeyes are still living off of their season opening win over then #1 Texas, that hasn't proved to be all that good as the season has gone on. All of the teams have some flaws.

Pitt is on a roll, winning four games in a row behind QB Heintschel for a 6-2 record, 4-1 in the ACC. And Coach Narduzzi's defense is once again salty, 27th in total defense. Like the offense, the defense is much improved over the last four outings. The schedule sets up perfectly for a Panthers PO push: Saturday at Stanford Then, after a buy on November 8th, Pitt has a chance to shake up the CFB playoff. November 15th vs. No. 12 Notre Dame - this looks to be the toughest remaining game on Notre Dame's schedule. November 22nd, at No. 8 Georgia Tech - Ready for a slobber knocker? November 29th vs. No. 10 Miami - The Canes were ahead of Syracuse last year before blowing a 21-point lead, dropping the final regular-season game to the Orange, and missing the PO. And the Syracuse game was played indoors. 😁 Thanksgiving weekend, you can count on Three Rivers Stadium being windy and cold. TCB vs. Stanford, which is decent at home, and win the final three games against top 25 opponents, and Pitt is PO-bound with the possibility of hosting a 1st round game. The ACC title and a 1st round bye could also be in play. True frosh Mason and true frosh BYU QB Bear Bachmeier are balling out this season. Pitt Panthers #H2PHeintschel, Johnson Earn ACC Football Player of the Week...Pitt quarterback Mason Heintschel and wide receiver Kenny Johnson have been honored by the ACC this week for their performances in the Panthers' 53-34 win ov...

I don't think there are many Oregonians who feel former State employees shouldn't have a pension, if they became eligible while private industry had pensions. But, when private industry dropped pensions and went solely to 401K's that should have ended it. Likewise, private industry pensions for employees are based on a much more modest calculation of average of final wages. At the point the person retires, it is frozen. No increases in benefits after retirement date. When a PERS eligible retiree can have a pension that is over 100% of his final pay, while a similar tenured private employee remains frozen at 30-35% of his/her final salary, there is seriously something wrong. Especially when cities, counties, school districts, and the State have to keep allocating money from their budgets to fund it instead of city services, county law enforcement, education of kids, and public health. Similarly, the increase of "potential sources of investment" do not rise fast enough to offset the exorbitant benefit growth. So, taxpayers have to make up the difference via reduced public budgets for services or increased taxes/fees, or both. SAIF premiums could be used for other purposes than exorbitant retirement benefits.

Oregon’s Biggest Nightmare: Indiana Winning It All

So, is Oregon beating Indiana in a rematch in the playoffs Indiana's worst nightmare? I recall Oregon beat the eventual national champion in the regular season last year. Then in the playoffs... Stranger things have happened.

Ducks Beat National Champion Northwestern, and Win the East Lake Cup

OREGON ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2025 OREGON WOMEN’S GOLF | @OregonWGolf ATLANTA – The Oregon women's golf team closed out its fall season with a win on the national stage on Wednesday, defeating defending national champion Northwestern in the championship match of the 2025 East Lake Cup at East Lake Golf Club. Facing the Wildcats in a rematch of last spring's NCAA semifinal, the No. 5 Ducks put together a dominant 4-1 victory to earn the program's first-ever win at the East Lake Cup while making their third appearance in the last four years. It was the 12th win all-time under head coach Derek Radley, and first of the 2025-26 season. "Incredibly proud of our team for what they've accomplished this week," head coach Derek Radley said. "The East Lake Cup is one of the most prestigious events in college golf and it really feels like postseason competition when you're out there on the course. To finish first in stroke play and then put together two wins in match play, including today against the reigning national champions, that's not easy to do and I'm really impressed with the way our ladies carried themselves throughout the tournament. "We had to battle through some tough weather conditions and I thought they did a tremendous job of making adjustments where we needed to while also sticking to our game plan. This is an awesome way to close out our fall season and I am so excited to see what the spring brings for this group." What it Means: The East Lake Cup is an invitation-only event featuring the final four teams from the previous NCAA Championships, and the entire tournament is broadcast live on Golf Channel. That experience on the national stage against elite competition has proven valuable for Oregon in recent years as the Ducks have reached the semifinals or better three times since 2022, and this UO team became the first to take home the title. How it Happened: Play was moved up into the early morning due to incoming weather conditions, and the Ducks sent true freshman Sophie Han out onto the course first to set the tone against Northwestern's Ashley Yun. Han did just that, taking a 1 up lead through eight holes before winning the next two to get to 3 up. A par at No. 13 got her to 4 up, and she clinched a 5&4 victory with a birdie at No. 14 to put a board on the board for Oregon. The Wildcats answered with a quick point of their own as Dianna Lee defeated UO freshman Shyla Singh, 5&4. Sophomore Tong An, who had the dramatic win in extra holes last spring to send Oregon into the semifinals against Northwestern, battled throughout the morning with Hsin Tai Lin. An pulled even with a birdie at No. 8, and then won the next two holes to get to 2 up. An was 2 up with three to play before Lin came roaring back with back-to-back wins to even the match going to 18, but An drained a par putt to win the match, 1 up, and give Oregon a 2-1 advantage. Junior Kiara Romero was last out on the course for the Ducks, but for the second day in a row clinched the match with a comfortable victory. Playing against Megan Meng, Romero won the first hole and never trailed en route to a 3&2 victory to seal the title for the Ducks. Romero's lead got as large as 4 up through seven and never got back down to 1 up after the second hole. Sophomore Suvichaya VInijchaitham won her match as well against Arianna Lau to finish off the 4-1 team victory. Like Romero, Vinijchaitham won the first hole and never trailed. #5 Oregon 4, #21 Northwestern 1 Sophie Han (UO) def. Ashley Yun (NU), 5&4 Tong An (UO) def. Hsin Tai Lin (NU), 1 up Shyla Singh (UO) def. Dianna Lee (NU), 5&4 Suvichaya Vinijchaitham (UO) def. Arianna Lau (NU), 1 up Kiara Romero (UO) def. Megan Meng (NU), 3&2 Up Next: Oregon's spring season will begin on Feb. 1-3 at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.

Legislation to Cap Coaches' Salaries at $279,000.00

For Utki, PERS is not funded by taxpayers. The money an Oregon coach pays from his or her salary into PERS is matched by the Oregon Athletic Department which is not taxpayer supported. That money is invested by the Oregon State Treasurer in the same investments that State of Oregon funds are invested. Those investments have earned a lot of income over the years and the return for retired former State of Oregon employees from the investment of their own money is substantial. However the PERS funds are totally separate from any tax revenue. The taxpayers of Oregon do get a huge benefit because the total funds the State of Oregon Treasurer has to bargain with potential sources of investment are greatly enhanced by having the PERS funds along with taxpayer funds. The entire PERS funds, which grow every year, are there for investment. However the taxpayer funds decline to a low amount with each two-year State budget. Yes, I get a monthly PERS benefit, but none of it comes directly from the taxpayers. I worked for SAIF Corporation, which, like the Athletic Department, is not taxpayer supported. SAIF is totally dependent upon premiums paid by Oregon employers.

If the Congressman from Washington can demonstrate to me that he can get 70,000 people from around the state to pay $150 per seat on a Saturday to show up in Seattle and listen to him drone on for 3 hours, motivate 105 kids and a staff to do what he tells them to do, answer direct questions in a press conference afterwards with every word recorded for second guessing by 7 million who didn't show up, then maybe there's room to consider his proposal. Maybe.

Oregon has the No. 1 pass defense in the country at 124.5 yds per game and the #4 defense overall. tOSU is No. 1 and Iowa No. 2. Some of the OBD defensive players are young and will be Ducks for several more years. Our quarterback, Dante Moore, started the first four games playing, pretty much, at the level of Bo Nix’ second season and Dillon Gabriel’s only season as a Duck. So, he was being compared to the two quarterbacks who have more college football experience than any others, ever. Nix started 61 games, Gabriel, 64. Nix was not well regarded in his early years at Auburn, and Gabriel had detractors at Oklahoma. He admitted that his spring ball as a Duck was pretty rough. Each of them opted for more college football at Oregon because they felt that they were not ready for pro ball, and they were correct. For each their best season was their last season. Both are starting in the NFL, and both started as rookies. Oregon did well by them. Dante’s first four starting games as a Duck were against probably the weakest defenses OBD will face this year. He came out of the blocks going full speed ahead. He was not sacked in any of those games. When he came on the field against Indiana Dante had previously started 10 games, five of which were at UCLA. As fans, we were spoiled and had unrealistic expectations. Dante is in only the early stages of learning how to deal with a pass rush. As he gets more experience, he, and OBD, will be just fine with him leading the team. While we don’t like to use him much, the OBD punter, James Ferguson-Reynolds, is a weapon other teams must spend a lot of time preparing to face. He can kick the ball a good distance using a standard kicking style, and he can place the ball well with a “sidewinder” style. Also, he can run and pass very well, making the fake punt option available on every punt. So, we fans have a lot to be happy about, and, I believe, much to look forward to.

Oregon’s Biggest Nightmare: Indiana Winning It All

The schedule has set up nicely for Indiana. I'm not sure that will happen again anytime soon to a similar degree for any team regardless of conference. Indiana's next four opponents to close the season have 1 conference win total. Four teams, one B1G win. Indiana had a bye before traveling to Oregon. They do not play Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska. Washington, USC. None of them. None. Vanderbilt plays Alabama, LSU, Texas, Auburn, Tennessee. Which up from the basement team would you rather be in 2025? Indiana will play Ohio State in Indianapolis, and the crowd will be wild. As it turned out, OSU's schedule is not exactly a juggernaut either in 2025. But, I would trust OSU to matchup with potential CFP opponents than I would Indiana.

Oregon’s Biggest Nightmare: Indiana Winning It All

Oregon's biggest nightmare? • How about "Dan Lanning Hired by Penn State"? • How about "Phil Knight Embraces Scientology?" • How about "Dakorian Moore, Jordan Davison portal to Ohio State"? • How about "Huskies beat Oregon by FG, Join Playoff, Oregon to Play Houston in Alamo Bowl"? Maybe my nightmares are worse than others? In seriousness though: "If Indiana (or any other 'outside' program) does win a national championship before the Ducks, Oregon fans will be left slack-jawed and misty-eyed, crying, 'That should have been us!'." If Indiana, or Vanderbilt, or Texas Tech wins it all, good for them. It would be fine quite possibly enjoyable to see Indiana beat Alabama or Vanderbilt beat Ohio State. It wouldn't have that much to do with Oregon. Oregon would have had its chances and not got it done. It happens. The system has now significantly changed. Someone else adapting faster and getting there first? Sure. Absolutely possible. Good for them. As a Duck fan I have never felt Oregon was inherently owed to be the next "breakthrough National Champion". You have to win it or what's the point? No crying. 🙂

Oregon Football: Time for the Ducks to Panic?

I agree. It isn't enough to have a complete roster, you have to use it. For every counter by the opposing defense you have to be able to recognize it and have a counter of your own. I'll go back to my prior pondering, is why is Stein not up in the box? Has he been under undervaluing the importance of seeing how the defense is attacking his play calling in real time. It's great we adjusted just before halftime, but we'd already thrown away 5 possessions at that point. Someone else mentioned more play-action pass which adds the RB as another blocker up front and creates more space across the middle behind the linebackers. I agree we should do more of that too.

Not trying to be political, but a congressman getting paid while the government is shutdown, has a lot of nerve telling coaches they are paid too much. I agree they are over paid. But like a CEO of a big company, the responsibilities are huge and demands compensatory pay. Too me the problem is the buyout. That's on the individual university. The demands for winning, and now the National championship demands, the schools are as greedy as the coaches agents. Good luck with this even getting a serious look in congress.
