  4. I am curious as to what others want from the team in this game against Beavis? Sure, win handily, get the young-guns some playing time....but what would YOU sell the team on in preparation for this game? My theme would be "Precision," as we want great technique applied, and when done--the results will be great stops on defense, and great blocks that create explosion running plays. Precision on running passing routes, precision in delivering the ball...thus it is not outcome-based, since we know where that is going, but based instead on the process? Thoughts?
  5. From ESPN's Bottom Ten 7. Oregon Trail State (You have died of dysentery) (0-3) Full disclosure: I am currently writing this in a hotel room in Corvallis, where I'm working on a "College GameDay" feature about the platypus trophy that the Beavers and Ducks will play for this weekend. 6. I must've experienced my Mandela Effect moment. I would've testified to the fact that I saw a Penn State vs Iowa game in 2009 where Penn State was wearing their white unis during the Whiteout. But you are absolutely right.

  8. Kinda does invite other rivalry week prank memories? Growing up in Southern California, I recall a Crosstown Rivalry Week prank from the 1960’s that, while not as cordial, was pretty funny. The prank was based on the usual response by USC frat boys to traditional UCLA efforts to unscrew and steal the brass sword from the hand of the campus statue of Tommy Trojan. The traditional response was, of course, for Trojan fraternities to share a weeklong, overnight statue camp out vigil. What the USC fraternities didn’t know that year was that the UCLA plan had changed from targeting the sword to targeting the protectors. What reportedly occurred on the night of the prank was that sometime between 2 and 3 in the morning, a helicopter w/ searchlights was heard approaching the USC campus. Thinking it was LAPD looking for someone, the vigil campers didn’t give it much thought, until it came to hover directly above them, and then released from a Bambi Bucket (the canvas bag beneath fire fighting helicopters) what was described by those on the ground as, “a ton of cow or horse manure”. Investigators later confirmed that a UCLA frat boy involved in the prank did have a family connection that gave him access to such a helicopter.
  9. Thank you, thank you, thank you Bob Prall. Many of us are ecstatic for the history lesson especially being taught by the perpetrator. I would hope that such a ruse could be pulled off today, but alas probably not. In today's jargon, GOOD ON YOU!
  10. Here is the latest from a pay-site... "At the moment its just a deep hip bruise or hip pointer. Even if for some reason he doesn't play this weekend, which appears likely he will play, but even if they are precautionary he will be good to go for Penn State."
  11. An outstanding prank in a simpler time.

  17. Bob, simply fantastic! Further proof that 89 is the new 50. I love the blasts from the past. 'Looked up phone numbers.' Younger OBDers, the numbers were found in a book, not on a handheld computer. 'Prepared maps.' To accomplish this, you needed to examine printed materials and write down the directions using something referred to as a pen or pencil on something called 'paper.' If you got lost, the paper most definitely did not speak to you to get you back on track. I'm guessing here, but I imagine there was less traffic, coming and going, on what is referred to today as the I-5. 'Coats and ties.' Huh? 'Pay phone.' Huh? '1957 Open.' I'm on the verge of becoming a mere octogenarian, and I'm pretty sure you could kick my 'young' butt on the golf course.😁 No Amber Alert? No police dragnet? No disgruntled families, 'victims,' or editors-in-chief. And college authorities with a sense of humor? Who knew? Thank you, Sir, can we have another?

  19. Joel Klatt Reveals Updated Top 10 College Football QBs — With a New Name at No. 1Let's face it: We were wrong about Arch Manning, Cade Klubnik and a few other quarterbacks entering the 2025 college football season. The Texas and Clemson quarterbacks were widely viewed as two of the top quarterbacks in the nation before the year began. In fact, FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt ranked Klubnik and Manning as his No. 1 and No. 2 quarterbacks in the country, respectively, prior to the start of the new season. However, we have yet to experience "Arch Mania" and Clemson has quickly picked up two losses, putting its national championship hopes in peril. So, at a chance of redemption, Klatt re-ranked the 10 best quarterbacks in the nation in the most recent episode of "The Joel Klatt Show."

  27. It certainly will help if the Duck offense comes out and scores TDs on its first three drives like last season. It would take quite a while to look up; but, I'd imagine that isn't something Penn State gives up at home often to anyone either.
