  2. Canzano is the humor gift that just keeps giving and giving! Just when you think he can't be any more ridiculous, he proves he can be. Imagine a conference president that actually wants his own conference to succeed! Hey JC, stick with the Pac 2 and leave big boy reporting to others more capable.
  3. I believe Texas Tech’s mascot is the only one to die during a game. Although, UGA came close in the Sugar Bowl when meeting up with Bevo.
  4. The Yahoo Sports site's take on the Executive Order is very much the same as David Marsh's succinct, spot-on post. The Order is a good attempt at trying to fix what ails college sports, but will it have any real effect? The SCORE Act has made it out of committee. If passed, which is doubtful, it would have the full force of law behind it. https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/breaking-news/article/president-trumps-executive-order-on-college-sports-heres-what-it-actually-means-001007183.html

  8. I cannot copy the whole article, but John Canzano interviewed Big-10 Commissioner Tony Petitti at the B1G Media Days and I learned two things; Canzano is against what we want in the B1G, and is folding in "put-downs" of Petitti and the B1G in his article very skillfully. This was not a factual interview, it was an Opinion-Editorial piece by John. The other item? Commish Petitti is fighting for his conference...to grow the viewership and attendance--to benefit the conference members. Below are some of his quotes... He mentioned the scheduling disparity (with the SEC) on Tuesday, noting, “We have more losses in our conference because we play more conference games.” Said Petitti: “We’ve got 18 teams now. We need more teams in the playoff.” Petitti argued on Tuesday that having four guaranteed CFP spots would cause his schools, particularly those with a 6-3 record late in the season, to feel like they had a path to the CFP. That would increase fan interest in the Big Ten regular season, he said, and boost television viewership. “More teams feeling like they have a chance,” he said, “means more interest in our games.” Big-10 Commissioner Tony Petitti I agree with his statements, and would take it further; if we get four in the Playoff for certain, then B1G and SEC teams would be more apt to schedule high-profile, high-payout non-conference games with each other. It would create a juicier season, more interest in all the games, and it would grow the conference viewership and payouts to conference members.

  12. North Carolina football is practically an oxymoron. It's as blue as bluebloods get when it comes to basketball. Now they hire Bill Belichick, and he comes with a son, and a friend. But it's nothing, they just want to play football. UNC players -- Bill Belichick-Jordon Hudson pairing a nonissue - ESPN
  13. My understanding is that it applies with the force of law until the next President writes one to dissolve it. This was common as Biden wrote 160 Executive Orders, and Obama wrote 277 Executive Orders. Biden revoked 72 Executive Orders from Trump's first term, which again--is common. (Trump has written 171 Executive Orders in his second term) It does not solve everything, but I view it as a next step?

  15. Not getting political but as a high school government teacher here are the problems I see with this executive order. Executive orders are NOT laws thought they can be administered like a law. 1a. Who is going to administer this order? The NCAA? 1b. What realistic power of enforcement will they have? This is not a law, so how will it interact with existing State laws that do allow for NIL payments. Oregon, Washington, and California I know for a fact all have State laws that allow for NIL payments. I believe Tennessee passed a law last year to allow for even more freedom in NIL payments. Though not 3rd party payments, there is still the House Settlement that will complicate player payments. A lawsuit is certainly coming, most likely from players (probably with some support from NIL backers) because this would be a massive rule change for them. There are probably more questions that will crop up about this executive order but these are my initial thoughts.

  17. 2027 is a l-o-n-g way off (... at least for 80-year-old OBD fans with bad hearts). I hope this is one fellow that believes in commitment. GO DUCKS!
  18. The Duck is too popular to be relegated down to the mechanized category, but he should be #1 in both. Mike should be #1 in the live animal division due to the fact that if he gets out of his cage somebody is dying. Finally, as much as I despise USC, their mascot should replace Texas Tech's on this list.
  19. I didn't realize there were other Harley riding mascots. So, we should have been first in two divisions. Also, I rate Ralphie over uga any day.
  20. Looking at last season: The 4 extra at large teams would have been South Carolina, Ole Miss, Alabama and Miami. That is 3 SEC teams that would have qualified for the playoff in the final 4 slots. All with 3 or more losses, all while only playing 8 conference games and a bunch of FCS schools. Because of the skewed rankings and 8 game conference schedule, those three SEC teams had a huge, unfair advantage over Illinois, who was also 10-3 but had to play 11 power 4 schools last year. Then Illinois went out and beat South Carolina in the post season. There is no doubt in my mind that Illinois was a better football team than South Carolina last year, but they would have been left out due to unbalanced schedule and media narrative. I won’t even bring up the fact that 8-5 Michigan beat Alabama. Or the fact that the SEC had a losing record in the playoff and has not made the finals in 2 years. Petitti should never agree to 5+11 without everyone playing 9 conference games. In a 5+11 model, the BIG in most cases is going to be on the outside looking in for those final 4 spots. They will go to the ACC and SEC with less conference games and overall losses.

  27. This article is a swing and a miss: Oregon motivated by College Football Playoff loss to Ohio State If I had Lanning alone in a room and was able to discuss the topic of the Ohio State game I would have said the following: You and/or your coordinators have previously said you schemed to beat OSU in the Rose Bowl the same way you beat them at home early in the year, despite OSU playing a very different style of play against Tennessee in the first round of the playoffs. Did you, your coordinators, or your analysts even watch the OSU vs. Tennessee game the week before the Rose Bowl If not, what the heck were you doing, if you did, why the heck did you change anything schematically and preparatory for playing OSUs new style of ball? We know there is a lot recruiting happening in the weeks leading up to the Rose Bowl. Did that significantly interfere with your ability to adequately prepare for OSU in the Rose Bowl? What are you, the coaching staff and the analysts going to do differently with your preparation process in the future to prevent this from ever happening again?
