Mike West, a not-surprising Spot On comment. Compared to Fox, the ESPN college football marketing machine is like NIKE versus PF Flyers. The B1G Noon game is a B1G mistake. Fox buried B1G headliner Ohio State with SEVEN Big Noon kickoffs. Ohio State at Penn State is a White Out and not a Noon game, and 3 million more people would have tuned in. ESPN is much savvier at putting the top SEC games of the week in prime time. After purloining SC and UCLA and breaking up the Pac-12, Fox rarely broadcast the two LA schools' games. Many prime-time games, like Ohio State at OBD, were broadcast on NBC, a network that promotes Notre Dame and treats the B1G like an afterthought. Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt versus Chris Fowler and Herbie is not a fair fight. Ditto, for the NBC talking heads. Nessler and Danielson are OK, but IMO they didn't come with the same enthusiasm in 2024 as they did when CBS had the SEC 3:30 game. The B1G Network, the majority owned by Fox, does what it can, but ESPN and its affiliates, ESPN 2, ESPN U, etc., have far more subscribers for a daily in-season college football show that is on Tuesday through Friday and dwarfs the B1G Today viewer numbers. Just as College GameDay on Saturday dwarfs the Fox Big Noon pregame show. Fox threw millions of dollars at Rece Davis to have him move over. ESPN responded in kind. Winner: Rece! Tony Petitti is very much aware of the B1G being behind the SEC in viewership. Whether he can do anything about it before 2031 when a new media deal begins, I don't know. The B1G took the Fox and friends' dough and has to live with it. But why Fox would what it did for the B1G media rights and shout itself in the foot? - Today

In reviewing the first three rounds of the NFL draft, not a single player from Fuskies. One third round pick from USC. I think this is important to recruits and their decision process. Can’t wait to see what today brings (additional drafts AND spring football)—I have no doubt it will have an impact on quality recruits for the Ducks. Keep the faith. Go Ducks! -

Makes you wonder if this is a message to any guy in the future who might try to pull an Eli Manning. There were rumors Deion might try that with his son, but I think the media made that up. Deion is brash, but he seems like a rational business man. I hope that Arch Manning gets sent the same message if his gramps tries to pull the same thing he did in '04. College football just sent a similar message with the whole Imaleava ordeal. -

Hmm... Maybe 26. I wonder if Carson Beck wasn't smarter than we gave him credit for. His injury concern would've probably cost him a first round spot. So he went to dummy U and made four million with a chance to do what Cam Ward just did and cement a much better draft spot. Makes you wonder if Quinn Ewers shouldn't have done the same. Mr. Ewers could've probably gotten close to what Mr. Beck got from a Michigan, Notre Dame or Texas Tech. -

Ducks Just Took A Couple Big Recruiting Blows
Mike West replied to Babyjesus615's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Here's the thing: as much as it hurts that the Fuskies and USuC are nabbing some of our recruits, WE NEED BOTH TO RISE TO THE TOP OF THE B1G. I've said this before. I've done some research this week and quite frankly, last year's TV numbers scream the necessity for all of the name brands in the Big to elevate their game. The SEC and ESPN killed it ratings wise, and the ACC actually nipped the heels of the B1G with FSU way down. I believe ESPN raped the ACC, and their presence in the P4 gives them major leverage. Fox and NBC have more than coverage of the B1G, so osu2, Michigan and Penn State cannot rely on OBD alone(and we don't have THAT much brand power to fill what is a very big gap in ratings behind the SEC). In Dan I trust, and I think he's a better coach than Fisch and Riley (already better than Riley on offense). The ACC may catch the B1G in ratings when FSU revives itself since Notre Dame is about to bolster that conference (on TV). I have some theories about what may happen to the whole landscape given the numbers I've seen, which I'll share once the playoffs format is set for this year (close to the beginning of the season). TV ratings for the B1G were disappointing in my eyes. It needs to be fixed. That said, I believe DL will fill out the 26' class, and he sure can recruit experience to Eugene. I expect a healthy playoff run this year. I believe that will really help recruiting later this season.. -

Should the Ducks Host More Events in Portland?
David Marsh replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
My proposal is that it should be a few one-off events. Making the team travel 4 hours round trip on a regular basis would be a bad idea for everyone involved. They have to travel enough with the B1G these days as it is. The Ducks are Eugene and Portland is their side show and I wouldn't dream of wanting UO to make their athletic base in Portland. But I'd take my family to some one-off Oregon events in the Portland area for sure, especially as my two daughters get older. They have some cool facilities on their Portland campus and it would be cool to see them used from time to time. -
Ducks Beat Beavers for 4,100 Attending at PK Park, 4-2!

Ducks Open Rivalry Series With a Win EUGENE, Ore. — Nights like Friday prove why, despite riding a roller coaster at times this season, the sky remains the limit for Oregon baseball. Playing their in-state rival at a sold-out PK Park, the No. 13 Ducks got a strong start from Grayson Grinsell, clean defense, clutch hits from two of the most prolific home-run hitters in school history and shutout relief pitching to beat No. 3 Oregon State, 4-2. Portland native Ryan Cooney had the go-ahead RBI, a two-run double in the fourth inning as the Ducks improved to 10-1 in weekend series openers this season. Oregon (28-12) bounced back from a deflating loss Tuesday to Portland by out-executing the Beavers on Friday. “It’s just another game; it’s also an important win that we needed,” Cooney said. “But it's also another game at the same time. (We just need to) stick to our process, not change anything — not get too big with our swings, and pitching-wise just continue what we're doing.” The UO bullpen has been a factor in the Ducks’ inconsistency in recent weeks. But Ian Umlandt, Cole Stokes and Seth Mattox combined for two shutout innings in relief of Grinsell on Friday, a much-needed boost of confidence. “I've said it before, the group I coach, obviously we've got a good record — like, a really good record,” UO coach Mark Wasikowski said. “But they still feel like they're way better than what we've shown on a consistent basis. You've got to put a complete product together on a consistent basis for us to be able to make that claim. And so until we can show that on a regular basis, people are going to question it — and they’ve got a right to. But the locker room feels like they got a lot more in it, I can tell you that much.” How It Happened: Grinsell (7-1) continued to excel as Oregon’s Friday night guy, allowing only two runs in the third on his way to a seven-inning gem. He hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in a start since Feb. 28, extending that streak Friday despite allowing the two runs that gave Oregon State an early lead. Grayson Grinsell was locked into this game... “You’ll see guys get really rattled when they struggle or whatever, give up a couple of runs,” Wasikowski said. “Grayson didn’t. He got tougher.” His offense helped. Mason Neville extended his UO single-season record to 20 home runs with a solo shot in the bottom of the third, answering OSU’s early rally. The Ducks took the lead in the fourth, with a boost from their coaching staff. After Anson Aroz worked a one-out walk, he stole second. Burke-Lee Mabeus then walked with two out, and a double steal put both runners in scoring position. Cooney brought both in with a double into the left-field corner. “I think if you watch the tape back and you see those stolen bases, that's all on (the coaching staff),” Cooney said. “They prepared really well, with the shifts that those guys were putting out there and how to beat him. And I think that's why it put me in a good position in that situation, specifically.” Grinsell faced the minimum over his final four innings, thanks in part to a double play in the top of the fourth, and a runner he picked off at second in the fifth. When he struck out back-to-back hitters to end the seventh, he bounded off the mound and let loose with a shout to celebrate the end of a 117-pitch effort. Jacob Walsh savors it with the team.... At that point Oregon was clinging to a 3-2 lead. Two batters later, UO career home run leader Jacob Walsh made it 4-2 with a solo shot, homer No. 52 of his career. “I tried to control my emotions throughout the outing, tried not to get too high and too low,” Grinsell said. “But coming out in the seventh, I knew that was probably my last inning, so I kind of let it loose. And yeah, I think it got the dugout a little bit fired up and carried the momentum with ‘Dub’s’ home run.” Umlandt, who has made four midweek starts this season, got the first two outs of the eighth before allowing two baserunners. Stokes then struck out the last batter of the inning, and Mattox — who took the loss Tuesday against Portland — pitched around a two-out double in the ninth for his second save of the year. “I think our back end is really coming around,” Mattox said. “Obviously with Stokes, and having Ian back there now not just as a midweek guy, I think it's coming together. We know who our go-to guys are in big situations.” This Beaver can't outrun the throw from Ryan Cooney... Friday, there were a bunch of go-to guys who came through in a bunch of go-to situations. The key, the Ducks know, will be doing it again Saturday. Notable: Third baseman Carter Garate made his 100th consecutive start for the Ducks. … Oregon has won three straight in the rivalry series, and has a 43-42 record in games played in Eugene. … The Ducks improved to 3-1 against top-10 opponents this season. Up Next: Game two of the series is Saturday (4:05 p.m., B1G+). -

Absolutely! Pay them for the full time job and they shouldn't have to pay a thing to travel. Travel is not optional... They need to be on the field so enable it! Also if it's a full time job the standard of officiating goes up. Which is what this sport needs.
