New Recruiting Strategy Explains Football Recruiting for 2026?
GeotechDuck replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I don't usually worry to much about missing on guys here and there. However, there has been a clear shift in strategy over the past 4 months, with Oregon losing 4 and 5* commits and consistently missing on high end prospects. This is becoming a trend and is very concerning. As David pointed out above and I agree with, it is challenging to get recruits to Eugene. But Oregon had built an advantage in two areas...brand and money. Oregon had the funds to compete with the big boys in the NIL game, and now they are going to pull back? I think that is a massive mistake. Losing out of Greene and Cantwell is huge and extremely disappointing. If you have money to spend on recruiting, those are the two guys you really needed. You can try and live off portal talent for OL play, but I am not sure that will get you to the promised land. Here is an excellent article posted by Smith 72 on why consistently, talent, and experience playing in a system with the same teammates for several years is so critical to the success of OLs. -

This will be Penn State's fourth straight home game. While Oregon is playing Beavis the week before, PSU has a bye. 5 of PSU's first 6 games are at home. 2 of their final 6 are at home.

Instead of Gus and He Shouldn't Open His Klatt, Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge will be on the call. In 1982, Blackledge QB'd PSU to a 27-23 win over a Georgia team with Herschel Walker at RB and a National Championship for the Nits and Joe Paterno. I imagine Todd's impartiality will be tested. -
New Recruiting Strategy Explains Football Recruiting for 2026?
David Marsh replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Absolutely. And Lanning and Co have pulled the best out of the portal repeatedly. There aren't many quality linemen who enter the portal but Oregon has taken the lion's share of them since the portal era started. Getting high schoolers to Oregon is always going to be difficult. We lose to distance, mom, and the girlfriend far more often than we win. So we gotta use the portal. Lanning has shown that he can take a transfer player and elevate their draft stock. Nix is case and point. He went from undrafted to a first round pick. Gabriel went from probably undrafted to a 3rd round pick. With his height disadvantage! Come to Oregon and get elevated and further developed. -

Just curious why would people not watch OBD on Peacock? I’m not a fan of the service or anything, but it comes for free with my Xfinity internet, and would cost $8 for a month if I didn’t get it for free. To me, seeing a Duck game or two for $8 is less than a trip to Starbucks…so I’m genuinely curious why no Peacock? -

Below is another take that makes sense considering Oregon has a Blue-Chip roster that is primarily young... ----------------------------------------------------------------- Quote:..."shift their NIL focus from paying for high school prospects large sums of money but instead spending large chunks of their money to keeping its current talent on roster beyond the current season, and then hitting the transfer portal" That's not a viable long term plan. If you don't keep bringing in high level talent, 2-3 years later there aren't enough guys left worth paying that big money. Which makes me think this is a short or medium term strategy, reacting to an unbalanced roster. Unbalanced rosters aren't the worst thing. Michigan loaded up on older guys to win in 2023. tOSU wasn't that different in 2024. This could be us preparing for something similar in 2026. ---------------------------------------------------------------- This could be an "Oregon" strategy for now? It makes sense to tailor your planning to your roster, what you have in NIL funding, and where you believe legislation is going? -

I dropped the Bird's streaming service. An OBD game on Peacock will not be against one of the better teams in the B1G, and a 60-minute version of the game will be shown on BTN on Sunday or Monday. -
This could be B1G. Greg Sankey reacts to report Big Ten wants to press SEC to expand to 9-game conference schedule - On3 WWW.ON3.COM SEC commissioner Greg Sankey addressed a report that the Big Ten wants the SEC to move to a nine-game conference slate. The B1G, supposedly, would consider a PO format of 5-11, the 5 highest ranked conference champs are in the field and seeded as ranked with 11 at-large teams, IF the SEC agrees to play nine regular season games. This makes sense. 8 regular-season games allow SEC teams to schedule their way out of a loss. Not every team in the SEC does this. Florida plays Miami and FSU OOC in 2025. In 2024, UGA played Clemson and Georgia Tech. LSU opens the season on the road at Clemson. The other OOC games are in Baton Rouge against LA Tech, Southeast Louisiana, and Western Kentucky. The W KY game will be played on the penultimate Saturday of the regular season, when B1G teams will be playing a conference opponent. Playing Purdue is more difficult than playing W KY. Especially if West Coast teams have to travel to Purdue. In addition to nine regular-season games, the majority of B1G teams play a P4 opponent OOC. However, Ohio State played 3 G5 opponents OOC last season, and Michigan did the same in 2023. In 2025, Penn State has three cupcakes scheduled OOC, including FCS Villanova. (And then takes a week off before OBD comes to town ) (The B1G is not terribly concerned about the ACC playing eight regular-season games. ) The six SEC teams that finished in the committee's top 16 in 2024, Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss, and South Carolina, could have had one additional conference game loss. And in theory, No. 8 Indiana could have played Valpariso instead of Ohio State to finish 11-1. Not ranked in the top 16, Illinois, could have avoided a trip to Eugene with a game against Eastern Illinois, and be in the playoff with a record of 10-2. It will be interesting to see how the future PO format unfolds.

New Recruiting Strategy Explains Football Recruiting for 2026?
Charles Fischer replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Over at 247, the principals there just revealed what they believe is the adjusted recruiting strategy for Oregon Football, and it below.. "It sounds like Division Street, Oregon's sports programs, the AD, and other various NIL outlets have started to shift their NIL focus from paying for high school prospects large sums of money but instead spending large chunks of their money to keeping its current talent on roster beyond the current season, and then hitting the transfer portal. I believe in this move and think in the long run it will pay off for the Ducks, but time will tell there." It is possible that they anticipate new maximum levels attached to NIL, and thus are adjusting to it now and not have to alter NIL contracts and deal with that aftermath later? I also wonder if they are now fully realizing their positioning in the CFB food-chain, in that even if there are few good transfers available at a given position, such as offensive line--that they will be able to attract what they want from the portal such as this year's Nevada OT Isaiah World, USC OG Emmanuel Pregnon, and Texas State OT Alex Harkey? (Whew!) Are you better off spending enormous amounts for an unproven, inexperienced HS player or star transfer at that position? I think it is obvious, and perhaps my attitude towards portal QBs might be seeping over to other positions? To pull this off--you have to be very aware of what you can truly attract from the portal, and I gotta say...Lanning and staff have been elite at evaluating, recruiting, and coaching up those who come to us from the portal. -

I am sure we'll probably get one Peacock game... but I think realistically the only game that might get the Peacock treatment is Rutgers. We could dodge it but I don't think that is going to happen. I suppose the Oregon State game might be put on Peacock but as that one is a rivalry game it will probably avoid it. -
Reviewing College Football’s New Rules for 2025
David Marsh replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The Stemming penalty was just super frustrating these past few years. I get that it's not fair for a defense to be yelling out directions that sound like the quarterback to throw off the other team and cause a false start... but the defense gets to communicate. Nothing in the rule book says that the defense must operate in complete silence. Giving the defense clear words that are theirs also means the offense can't yell weird stuff to try and throw them off. Clarity makes the best rules. -
It will be a 7:30 EST game on NBC. Looks like a late night for those of us in attendance.

They also want a regularly scheduled game against a team from the B1G. I'm shocked by this. I thought 8 games was the hubris of the SEC and would have to be taken from their cold, dead hands. Let's hope Bittle's return helps Altman pull in a few more quality portal players. This team needs some proven depth.
