  2. I'm going to disagree. From what I have seen from Dante, I am confident that he is the guy. This loss will help this team. They have tasted defeat and now they know it can happen to them. Time to do what osu did last year after a surprising loss . . . run the table.
  3. With the kind of buy out in his contract he'll never have to work again (his kids either).
  4. Remember... Ohio State won a national championship last year and lost to Oregon and Michigan. We still have everything to play for though the B1G title will require a little help along the way. So we may miss out on a conference title but the playoff is still very possible. Moore will grow and the team should grow too.
  5. Rumor: Penn State JUST (hasn't) CALLED!
  6. I see the point but in terms of this statement by McAfee? I am going to have to again say nope. His statement wasn't "against good teams Oregon's defense has allowed too many redzone trips and allows a very high conversion percentage." That probably would be an interesting stat to see. Somebody really wanting to make that argument, if they want to use it as evidence, should actually probably do the work and produce the stat. I'm curious too but I don't particularly want to do the work and look the number up right now either. What is a good team, 10 wins in a season? Since Lanning arrived: Georgia (22), Wash (22), Utah (22), Oregon State (22), Wash (23), Wash 2 (23), Liberty (23), Boise State (23), Ohio State (23), Illinois (23), Penn State (23), Ohio State 2 (23), and Indiana (24). So redzone trips per game allowed and scoring percentage from Oregon. Then do at least 3-5 other top teams and 10-15 games each against 10 win teams and produce a comparable number, and I think we have a great discussion. Instead it was something to the effect of, "I found a little stat, so far Oregon has allowed 100% of its redzone attempts to score, so I think that's a sign Oregon will lose." Well, Indiana had given the exact same number. So, pointing out Oregon is giving up 100% scoring in the redzone is smart and a huge key but Indiana giving up 100% scoring in the redzone isn't a key stat that matters? I see that as a very odd interpretation. It isn't even very logical. So far both team have kept team out of the redzone, but when both teams have allowed teams in there, they each have allowed 100% scoring, so one team will probably lose because of that but the other team is fine? The good news? Finally, after 6 games Indiana got its first (and still only) redzone stop of the season when Sappington doinked a short FG. So, based on a bad FG kick, we probably have a new point of data to suggest really anything about Indiana's defense? I'd like the point and if someone wants to do the work I am here for it. The way McAfee did it is the "I don't actually care enough" garage sale/low rent version of the same thing.
  7. Spot On, Charles. Then and now. Today's CFB is all about roster management. Scoring with unproven high school talent still matters. But if you can find a quality, experienced QB in the portal, like Fernando Mendoza, John Mateer, or Carson Beck, sign them up! In regard to yesterday, I watched 'Titanic' once, OK twice, which is enough. Should OBD refuse to schedule Bye Weeks? 🤬
  8. Charles, i am so grateful that The Ducks became a team that could have a bandwagon to get off of in the first place. When I moved to Portland in 1984 I became a Duck Fan immediately. And they were bad to mediocre at best until Coach Brooks took them to the Rose Bowl. The influx of money, continued movement and improvement right up to the 2010 Natty. Fair weather fans and parents come with the sport, hec all sports! The Dicks WILL grow and build from this difficult loss. GO DUCKS!
  9. Maybe Lanning's name will not be linked to any openings!
  10. There is a well-known saying, “nobody is perfect,” and sadly that even applies to the Oregon Ducks. They lost their first game of the season to the Indiana Hoosiers, which ended their bid for another perfect regular season. It seemed possible after a win over the Penn State Nittany Lions at Beaver Stadium, the No. 2 team in the nation at that point, but that opportunity is gone now. Both the Ducks’ offense and defense played solid at certain points of the game against the Hoosiers, but ultimately, they didn’t do nearly enough to win. There was nothing extremely alarming that will plague the team for the remainder of the season. It was just a lackluster game coming out of the bye week for a young team, who we hope will learn from their mistakes. 12. It will be scary if PSU becomes suddenly more competitive with Franklin's exit. Another one bites the Dust...
  13. Last spring and summer--you read my words about how, if ANY team can get a great, experienced portal transfer quarterback...it is OREGON. We've proven how our coaching benefits them, and their experience gets us through the tough moments, and the tough games. I thought it was dumb to NOT take an experienced portal quarterback. "There is no replacement for experience," I stated, and I could not understand why we would stand pat, when, as Indiana demonstrated....good, experienced QBs are out there, and can get you through the epic games. Would we have lost that game with Bo Nix at QB? With Dillon Gabriel at QB? No. They would have been able to create more points because they have BEEN THERE before with Simulated Pressures coming at them. But...as the season began, I began to believe Tez Johnson, and the quotes from coaches that surfaced in the telecasts of the first couple of games. But Saturday showed us..."there is no substitute for experience." Dante Moore will grow and improve, but it will be at OUR expense, of losing games. This is what every QB goes through; there were times he rolled out too soon. Step up and lead your throw downfield to the receiver breaking open. Don't get happy-feet, and cut half the field off before you have to. Yes, I know it is hard to recruit QBs to be back-ups, but this is a new era with NIL, and coaches must adapt. Last year's 12-0 regular season would have been 10-2 with a talented, but inexperienced quarterback, and Gabriel was the difference in a bunch of big moments. He had been there, and done that. Of course Dante could grow into a superb QB by the end of the 2026 season, but how many games do we lose when an experienced QB would not have? This is an option teams did not have in CFB before, and Oregon should be capitalizing on it with no apologies, IMHO. Regardless...we will still see a ton of WINNING Football.
  14. I mean good lord, there’s getting fired at UCLA or OSU which were/are complete dumpster fires going into the season. But man, to go from top-5 to canned in half a season is just wild.
  15. Down but not out. Look at the preseason top 25 and how many of them are 2-3 losses already. We're still good but not quite there. Ain't leavin the bandwagon. Go Ducks!
  16. From a mile away, eh? 😁But Frankly, this news is overwhelmed by the goings on in Unhappy Valley.
  17. If it isn't April Fool's - WOW! On3Penn State fires head coach James Franklin.
  18. Wild to handpick an “easy schedule” and start 0-7. Now they end with a more manageable schedule of no names, but who would pay money to see Sam Houston State? They might actually win a couple games soon, but will anyone see it?
  19. Must have just happened, as I can't find a link, but I have no doubts about it being true.
  20. Were it not for unexpected medical bills, I would still attend every home game I could, and scream and dance with the rest of OBD in attendance. Those of us who sat in the (non-existent) rain, sleet, fog, and seemingly hopeless losses and ties of the late 60s, 70s, 80s, and most of the 90s, probably have a grater appreciation for what it took to arrive at the current state of OBD. I can remember as a teenager walking up to the gate (NO LINE or waiting) 10 minutes before a game with Cal (featuring players then known as Bobby Moore and Isaac Curtis), paying less than $10 dollars each, and proceeding to the seat of my choice, in a half empty Autzen Stadium. OBD lost that day, too. My buddies and I were back the next week to scream our hearts out, in the forlorn hope that better days were ahead. WE WERE RIGHT!!
  21. Well, as long as we aren’t as broken as we looked on offense, this actually really won’t hurt us, and may actually help in the long run. I’m not going to gloss over the offense getting zero TDS in the second half (when we needed them) at HOME. No one, I said no one should be able to do that to us in our house. That being said, we’re still in the top-10 and IU is now considered legit. If we had pummeled them they would have dropped hard in the polls. This makes the conference look way stronger and will go a long ways toward getting 3-4 bids instead of the two it looked it was going to get. Suddenly there are quite a few B1G teams with one loss or less at the halfway point.
  22. I just hope that the COACHES learn that every opposing coach from now through the year will rush 7 guys to take Moore out of the game. Im a Duck fan win or lose ,However I do take losses pretty hard.
  23. “No matter what”! I have been through much worse. I feel the ducks will probably grow more from this loss than a win. Still excited to be planning my trip to Rutgers this Saturday. Night night, Knights!
  24. That massive thud you heard was the Bandwagon Oregon fans jumping off. This is a good gut-check time for real Duck fans, as loyalty is something to be admired--even when you lose. We have a few people here who, like a-pig-in-mud....love to wallow in the negative. And that's even when Oregon is good. But I can't complain; everyone is stating the negative, and that is what a forum is for, and the negative will give us satisfaction later when Our Beloved Ducks learn and improve from this experience. And the big thing...I don't see anyone venting on us, as stating negative is usual and fine, but venting is extreme negative done ten times. Thus this loss reflects the positive of this forum; we, as a community have grown. While we are a small number, it is something to be proud of...to be associated with such people of civility and honor. This team will be quite different come December, and I don't mean the Penn State type of different, IMHO. It will be fun to watch the progress, and thanks for everyone for maintaining dignity, and not joining the Bandwagon Oregon fans. I am an Oregon Fan....NO MATTER WHAT.
