  2. A side note, only because it's USC. The loss to Beavis today was their first inside the remodeled, reoriented, rebuilt baseball stadium. They have been playing off campus in Irvine for two seasons and returned to campus this season. Ducks are just starting a 6-game non-conference slate: @UC-San Diego x 2, @UC-Santa Barabra x 3, home for U Portland before traveling to Michigan. May seem odd in the midst of a B1G schedule, but games in the Southland may be good planning based on late March weather that is typical for Eugene.
  3. I do not see a political reference. I see legislation proposed by a former college coach who went undefeated one season, and some comments about the legislation. If you disagree--email me charles@fishduck.com
  4. Thanks, and I see Waz developing depth among the Bullpen, as more pitchers are getting their confidence. This team has upside left, and if we see it...
  5. Fantastic work once again Charles. I look forward to every edition of your Horsehide Chronicles. This team has a lot of depth, including on the hill, and Coach Waz seems to know which rabbits to pull out of his hat
  6. Ducks win 6-0 after Maddox Molony skies a homer over the left wall! Then Gabe Miranda gets a hit to the R-CF, and Jack Brooks hits a double that goes to the CF-RF gap and buzzes to the warning track before the fielders can get their hands on it. This allows Miranda to score from first, and perhaps the big-guy has more wheels than I thought! Leo Uelmen comes in again to finish off the side, and WOW. What great pitching tonight, and big confidence builders for both pitchers. Gosztola was incredible...just ONE hit is all.
  7. Ducks win 6-0 in about 2-1/2 hours on the clock.
  8. Today
  9. 4-0 Ducks after eight innings. Jax Gimenez pulverized a pitch, and put it on almost the same spot on the scoreboard that Jack Brooks did earlier for solo HR! Leo Uelmen came in for Gosztola, and put them down 1-2-3!
  10. 3-0 Ducks after seven innings. Oregon stranded a runner again, but boy....what a game for Miles Gosztola! He gave up his first hit, and then retired the side with eight KOs.
  11. 3-0 Ducks after six innings. Oregon stranded a runner, and Miles Gosztola finally gave up a base runner to a walk. Then he got a flyout, and a grounder to generate a double-play to end the inning! He's HOT. Will we see him in the seventh?
  12. 3-0 Ducks after five innings. Burke-Lee Mabeus pulled a perfect bunt down the 3rd baseline to beat the throw. Gabe Miranda got a hit in short-RF, and then Jack Brooks came up and blasted a 3-run homer that popped the scoreboard!
  13. 0-0 after four innings. Ducks left another on-base, while Miles Gosztola has put down 12 batters in a row. Thus far, he has three pitches going well between his left-handed sweeper, a changeup, and a fastball down the middle. Barely 50 pitches in four innings...
  14. Beavis thump USC 12-4 in L.A. Only second loss for Toejams (24-2) and first loss at home (18-1) Wright State beats Ohio St, Virginia beats Maryland, Oakland beats Michigan. Not a stellar day for B1G.
  15. Women's basketball..... Guard Elisa Mevius entered the transfer portal, per Talia Goodman of On3. The news comes after her season was cut short following an ACL injury two games into the 2025-26 season. The Ducks lose a key two-way player and a former starter in Mevius. Mevius entered the season as Oregon’s only returning starter from the 2024-25 season. The guard transferred from Siena to Oregon ahead of her junior year. She started in 19 of her 28 appearances for the Ducks as a junior, but missed the program’s 2025 NCAA Tournament run due to a broken hand. Mevius led the team in steals during her first season in Eugene and shot over 30 percent from beyond the arc. Mevius was averaging 12.5 points per game, 3.0 assists, 1.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals before going down with injury in the late stages of Oregon’s game against Montana on Nov. 8, 2025. The Ducks lose a 3x3 Olympic gold medalist in Mevius and one of their best defenders.
  16. 0-0 after three innings. Ducks left one base runner stranded... But Miles Gosztola has put down nine straight batters!
  17. 0-0 after two innings. The Duck starter, Miles Gosztola, has been steadier thus far than other outings. Looks good... The Triton starter is a freshman pitching his first game, and he has been super as well.
  18. Clearly political. Delete this.
  19. This convesation is interesting. First the idea of players leaving a school for another to get paid an extra $50,000 makes sense to me. I mean how many of us wouldn't go work for another company in the same industry for an extra $4,000 per month? The real issue seems to be that the NCAA has done such a poor job of leading. So some in Congress are trying to make college football make sense. There clearly needs to be logic rules, like Tubberville has proposed. However, Congress does not seem to me to be the right organization. Yet, nobody else seems to want to be the adult in the room. 🤔
  20. Five years to play five seasons. One unlimited transfer. After first transfer, you must sit a year before you can play. Makes too much sense (unfortuately not enough CENTS for agents and players). Tommy Tuberville boasts new bill will fix '80 percent' of NIL, transfer issues - On3

  23. More NIL needed is the reality from here on out for whomever captains the ship.
  24. I have a feeling that this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. There were rumors flying around just over a year ago that Oregon’s NIL budget for men’s hoops was around $3M. I hope that is not true, but if it is, Oregon is no where near being market competitive.
  25. At some level there is a logic here. Evans and Shelstad were going to require NIL increases, and yet were not enough to get to the Tourney next year. Plus, we wouldn't have had any NIL budget to speak of after paying those two with raises. And, let's be honest, neither of them are NBA draft locks at this point. Now, go all in with the full NIL budget on a handful of smart veterans who are coachable and will play with some passion and team buy-in. They probably won't make the tourney either but at least they will be more fun to root for than this year's team.
  26. I appreciate what Dana has done for the program but geez, I gotta think the players get tired of his negativity. Reporter: Wow coach you won by 30...it's gotta feel really good Altman: Yeah but our defensive intensity wasn't there, we could've rebounded better, and we missed some easy shots. We need to get better! Maybe behind the scenes he's different but if I continued to hear how bad I was, I'd start believing it. I'm certainly not a Calipari fan but he gets 5 stars and they're gone after a year. Dana gets them and they don't even improve in years 2, 3, 4 and even 5 in Bittle's and KJ's case for the most part.
  27. I'd way rather Dana gracefully retire rather than eventually be forced out. The end of the Kent era was ugly. I loved Ernie but when it was time, it was time. I think a young eager Lanniningesque coach is what's needed to return to competitive basketball. I absolutely love hoops but I've never been so indifferent to the team than the last couple years. Something needs to happen and I hope it does in the right way.
