Joel Klatt: Buy Stock in Oregon Ducks Head Coach Dan Lanning
So much better than the Brooks Years, where it seemed like many seasons started looking really promising before being derailed a couple games in by one or two injuries, like Bill Musgrave, Brandon Jumper, JJ Birden, and Herman O'Berry. Never having the depth OBD have now.

2026 Oregon Baseball: So Many Pleasant Surprises!
Gotta question Mr. Fishduck, I thought with the new scholarship rules that teams were limited to how many players could be on the team and no walk-ons allowed. How can the Ducks have 23 on the pitching staff? What am I missing? Btw, great article. Thanks for the info.

Joel Klatt: Buy Stock in Oregon Ducks Head Coach Dan Lanning
Respected college analyst Joel Klatt released his list of the top ten coaches in college football today, and Oregon’s leading man made the cut at No. 4. There is no doubt that the Ducks have one of the best coaches in the nation, and fans should be even more encouraged by the fact that Lanning is only behind ones who’ve won a national championship. Klatt gave his reasoning for the prestigious placement on the list and optimism for the future, citing Oregon’s steady improvement year over year among others.

Eighth Win Gives Diamond Ducks Best Start Since 2014 (Press Release with Quotes)
Looking ahead to the Diamond Ducks games in Las Vegas, I was shocked to see the Arizona Wildcats have lost seven of eight games this season. They used to be one of the better teams in the old Pac-12. U.C. Irvine is 5-2, Vanderbilt at 6-2. While an 8-0 record looks impressive, our Ducks will be facing much better competition. These games will give us a better perspective of where they stand. Of the 23 pitchers on the team, Coach Wasikowski got 18 of them in the games these past two weeks. There are four more games on the schedule before B1G Ten games begin, starting with a road trip to West Lafayette to play the Purdue Boilermakers. They are not to be taken lightly. They just beat the Beavers 5-2 yesterday.

2026 Oregon Baseball: So Many Pleasant Surprises!
With the first weekends of baseball completed with Our Beloved Ducks at 8-0…I thought I’d offer some thoughts about this year’s team and more pleasant surprises than I ever would have anticipated. Sure, these first opponents are nothing like what Oregon has ahead on the schedule (like right away next week), but we know so little about the team. Thus the ... 2026 Oregon Baseball: So Many Pleasant Surprises!

Who Do YOU Believe the Oregon Ducks Are?
Only one thing will prevent OBD from being national champs. That is failure to protect Dante Moore. When he was not protected last year everything went sideways. If it takes a full house backfield to protect him that’s what must happen. With our receivers Dante can find them through double coverage, but only if he’s focused on them. When he is distracted by onrushing defense we’re toast.

USA WINS Hockey Gold Medal Over Canada 2-1 in OT!
I've played football, struck out at baseball, rode the pine for basketball, and got humiliated by a former ex in tennis in high school. I can't imagine ice skating while a 240 pound man is trying to take my head off while carrying a stick, and trying to move a fat little disc on said stick. I have the upmost respect for those ladies and gentleman that do it at the highest level. For the first time in my lifetime, and the first time ever. The USA has the Gold medals in the Olympics at the same time. They both went undefeated, and won in overtime over the behemoths of the sport, Canada. They represented our country with pride, and gave us two teams to be proud of. Of course we would be proud of them anyhow, but Gold is just a better form of that pride. We are the champions!!!!! Go USA!!?!!

USA WINS Hockey Gold Medal Over Canada 2-1 in OT!
Just another hockey novice glued to the tube, but it looked like the OT format of removing one man from each team worked in our favor because Canada’s strength looked like its ability to keep us off balance by controlling the puck with well placed passes between their five, while we seemed to excel at one-on-one match-ups. Less men on the ice seemed to loosen things up a bit, and give better spacing for head to head battles. But just another opinion from a hockey ignoramus. One opinion there’s no questioning is Jon’s. We don’t win without Hellebuyck guarding the goal.

Eighth Win Gives Diamond Ducks Best Start Since 2014 (Press Release with Quotes)
Eighth Win Gives Ducks Best Start Since 2014 EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon baseball is off to its best start in more than a decade, a hot streak that the Ducks will be challenged to extend this upcoming weekend. The Ducks completed a series sweep of Youngstown State on Sunday to improve to 8-0 for the first time since the 2014 season. To threaten the 1963 team's school-record start of 12-0, Oregon will have to stay hot at the upcoming Live Like Lou Las Vegas Collegiate Baseball Classic, in which Arizona, UC Irvine and Vanderbilt loom this next weekend. "We have some work to do," UO coach Mark Wasikowski said. "We're looking forward to another prep/work week this week, and another opportunity this coming weekend. But it's been a lot of fun to be around a group that cares and is detail-oriented and cares about the program, puts the program first. When you get guys that put the program first, it makes it really enjoyable." Oregon extended its winning streak to open the season with a 15-6 victory Sunday over the Penguins at PK Park. The Ducks once again showed off the depth and versatility of their lineup, and the arsenal of arms in the bullpen, despite playing the game in a steady drizzle. "Luckily, it happens a lot in the fall," senior third baseman Drew Smith said of playing in the rain. "You're playing a game versus practice, so yeah, there's maybe a couple differences. But we see these things all the time in practice." Cal Scolari Smith was 2-for-3 with his third home run of the season and four RBIs on Sunday. The Ducks got that production out of their No. 6 hitter, and the three spots behind him in the lineup combined to go 6-for-11 with four runs and RBIs. On the mound, five pitchers combined to keep the Penguins from threatening after the Ducks took a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The level of competition is about to take a jump in Las Vegas, but the Ducks believe they have the culture to keep competing well. "Kinda just keep doing the same thing that we're doing," Smith said. "It's a really close-knit group. I mean, we enjoy being around each other every day. So I think just carrying that into the road. It's gonna be different playing on dirt and all that stuff, but at the end of the day, it's still baseball." How It Happened: UO starter Cal Scolari faced the minimum in the top of the first, thanks to two Penguins thrown out after reaching base. In the bottom of the inning, Gabe Miranda came up with one out and runners at the corners, and his RBI single gave Oregon a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, with two runners in scoring position and two outs, Smith lofted a ball to left-center that hit the top of the fence and bounced over for his third homer of the season. "It did just sneak out," Smith said. "I honestly had no idea. I knew I hit it decent, so I was just trying to get to second in case he dropped it or something." Drew Smith After a leadoff homer and an unearned run got Youngstown State within 4-2 in the top of the second, the Ducks responded. Jax Gimenez tripled to drive in Ryan Cooney, and Gimenez scored on a groundball out by Dominic Hellman. Oregon scored again in the third when Angel Laya doubled with one out, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundball out by fellow freshman Brayden Jaksa. Scolari then pitched a scoreless top of the fourth inning to complete his day, leaving with a 7-2 lead. I don't know if he's ever pitched in any sort of rain or whatever, being down in San Diego for a couple years (prior to transferring to Oregon)," Wasikowski said. "… Great experience this weekend — great experience with a lot of things. They had to deal with a lot of adverse conditions, and they were able to handle those things and come out with wins. That's good." Ryan Featherston (2-0), who got a win as a starter on the opening weekend, pitched two scoreless innings of relief to get another win Sunday. In between his scoreless frames, the Ducks tacked on five runs in the bottom of the fifth — Hellman and Cooney had RBI doubles, Laya had an RBI single and two runs scored on wild pitches. Laya had another RBI single in the sixth, and Jaksa followed with another to make it 14-2 entering the seventh. The Penguins added three more runs in the late innings as Oregon got some work for its bullpen, and the Ducks scored one more, in the eighth, when Cooney reached on an error and Jaksa came home on the play. Up Next: The Ducks face Arizona in Las Vegas on Friday at 6 p.m.

GameDay Thread: Diamond Ducks Fly Past Penguins 15-6
I guess it depends upon the objectives and whether you achieved them? What I mean is that we had a TON of new players to merge into the team, and half the time when Jaksa plays catcher...we have FIVE new starters out there. Four when Mabeus catches, but the point is...it makes sense to start slow and find out what you have. I'll bet Waz is delighted that he got the lineup right, and it does not look like anyone needs to be replaced. We also have 23 pitchers on the team, TWENTY THREE. He wants to find out who can play, and only in games where you are up big--can you get them in and see what they can do. I think that is incredibly valuable for Waz's analysis, and for the growth of the players. It's like playing Montana State to get going in football; you are challenged, but should have it in hand. Now...that being said...people were pretty steamed when we lost a game (out of four) to Toledo last year in a similar early season series. They were torqued when we lost a game to Rhode Island in the next series of four games last year. As it turned out, Rhode Island won the conference and George Mason (who we played last week) was second in the Atlantic-10 with 40 wins...which is pretty good for any league. So this year we did not lose a game we shouldn't have, and we played a ton of pitchers. Sounds like a good warm-up to me. Everything changes this next weekend with this big tournament in Las Vegas. More on that later...
