What are the ratings really worth? They give five star kids and five star programs the benefit of the doubt. Dante Moore is a more well known commodity, but there's something wild and exciting about the unknown behind door number three. Arch Manning is being hyped like he's going to win the Heisman and lead Texas back to the promised land. Why? Because of what he did vs Mississippi State? Quinn Ewers was once the highest rated recruit ever at Ohio State. The guy became a 7th round pick. Hype and branding are what these rankings are all about. Drew Allar is number one because Penn State is going to do what Michigan and Ohio State did, we all have to believe that. Super Sayin is going to be great because Nick Saban thought so, and now he's with Ohio State and the QB guru Ryan Day. Major Underwood is the ten million dollar man. Best talent money could buy, he's got to be awesome because look at all those attributes.

So many of the top programs will be breaking in relatively inexperienced starting QBs that lists of who' the best in the B1G and SEC are more speculative than I can ever remember, and there are likely to be some real surprises this year that make pre-season predictions look ridiculous. Hopefully Dante will be one of them. At this point, I just hope that Dante is solid at running the plays that are called for him. If so, the Ducks should be just fine.

Making any list with so many new QBs is a fools errand. A whole lot of mid QBs in the big ten is most likely, again nothing like we saw in the Pac12, I'm dying to be proven wrong, but I think Demond Williams is probably top 3 if he can clean up the freshman mistakes. Maybe that's not too different than one could say about Moore either. If the route tree is improved and OL is good enough and Moore can just play 7 on 7 it could be special. If our OL struggles at pass blocking and the game still moves too fast for him it will be a long season. My big 3 stats for Moore this year are sacks taken, interceptions, and throw aways (i.e. not missing reads and ability to extend plays).

I don't disagree that with a good defense U$C could be dangerous and that LaLaLand will always sell itself for a recruit. But Riley had talent the last few years and whether due to poor coaching or poor culture, they couldn't convert that talent to victories. Branch, Robinson, Alexander and Pregnon all bailed on that program at the end of 2024. Watching Riley throw one of his DBs under the bus after a tough loss post game presser leads me to believe there is a culture problem.

USC inder Riley really did attack the portal pretty hard BUT he did so in a very skill position way. He grabbed a ton of his skill players from Oklahoma and other schools, he took Travis Dye from us. But he neglected the line of scrimmage that couldn't easily be fixed via portal. But the biggest shocker I've found is their absolute failure to navigate NIL. Suddenly when it's legal to pay players they can't manage to do it? It certainly feels more like institutional chaos and ineptitude over strictly coaching. However, Riley has treated his love to USC like he's still playing in the Big 12. At first in the Pac-12 and now the B1G. In both cases his offense first approach didn't work, outside of 2022 where he had a very favorable schedule and even then they lost to Utah twice. USC certainly wants to appear like they know what they're doing but it's always been flash over substance for them.

Well, USC is a defense away from making some noise. Riley will always have an elite offense. They need a stellar defense. Riley always took that for granted because he didn't need one in the Big 12. You need one to take out an Oregon, Penn State, a Michigan. Because those defenses can slow Riley's system down. He also lacks the muscle in the trenches. But that defense is where he has his problem. He should have taken down Georgia. But his defense collapsed under the adjustments Kirby made. I'm telling ya, if he gets a defense, all of us that hate having to deal with their spoiled children will be crying in this forum. We will be mad. Because, they WILL start getting talent again, and we will have to fight with them all over the country for those recruits. Let's just be gentlemen, and praise that guy, until we take them down. We don't need some Boston College transfer "talking nonsense to Bama" type of locker room poster fodder. USC is heading the right direction, they took guys away from us after all. And they have a score to settle.

Allar Sayin Underwood Maiava Moore (Novo?). Sayin is the real deal. Don't let a few mistakes in his Spring Game fool ya. He is under his 3rd OC. Underwood is just a month away from doing damage. Maiava is under rated. Moore needs to be money. Can he win games like Gabriel did last year? I think Novo can. Moore needs what Novo has. Novo needs what Moore has. Muscle memory for Novo (deep passes), brain power and quicker decisions for Moore. The five above them have all those components-deep ball accuracy, reads defenses well, hits key passes (on second down so you don't have to face third and long frequently), and clutch when they have to be. As for that dude in Texas-he is going to burn plenty of barns in the South this year. If you get a chance-watch his trial by fire last October against Georgia,. He was constantly under duress, made the right decisions, and when he had enough time, he was making plays. The guy is going to dominate. And he has some competition. Ty Simpson is not one to sleep on. He is smooth, makes very good decisions, is accurate downfield all over the field, and is a playmaker in an offense designed for his skillset. People forget what DeBoer did for Michael Penix. Simpson is a smoother edition, that can also handle the duress he will face. The SEC isn't dead yet. So, here's to Moore giving Novo tips on timing deep balls, and Novo showing Moore how to unmask the middle of the field. Whoever it is, we need both skillsets. We have some pretty elite defenses to chew up.

I am in line with this thinking. Iowa and UW are the two toughest games and are on the same list. Indiana will take a step back. USC still has major problems on both lines. And I am not convinced that Maiava can make a decent decision in crunch time. Ducks by 3 scores.

If OBD are clicking on offense, that record will go away. Snow or no snow. They don't have any returning LBs this year. OBD are more physical, and our WRs aren't something Iowa can handle. This of course is predicated on Stein finally opening the offense up and letting his receivers get downfield (something they only did once in the Rose Bowl, which was a huge strategic error. With both Tez and Sadiq, you send the damn ball downfield. Whoever matches Tez's speed should get plenty of reps downfield this year. It is a requirement to winning the Natty). That said, USC and the Fuskies. Fisch is a damn good coach, he won't get smacked again this year, and USC has way more horses than IU. What is that measurement, the 4 star and 5 star percentage? Yeah, USC will be a tougher outing.

Okay......Julian Sayin at #2 is just freakin ridiculous, he hasn't played a down, he isn't some sort of all world prospect like Lawrence was, that is just flat out wrong. Mendonza at 2 is fine, I really really like him, he's consistent, he's tough, and he's proven. Altmyer and Williams are a little high, I think Raiola is actually underrated. Moore should be like 7 or so, Maiava is should not be ahead of him, Underwood is also too high, Moore should be ahead of him. Iamaleava is a the one where I just have no idea, I think he's talented, but he didn't put up great numbers, he did his part. Williams is too high, though I like him, but he needs to actually win at some point.

Yeah I noticed they decided to stick with rivals as well. On3 has a rising brand and does a good job with recruiting information. Rivals just didn't seem to have that going for them. But on3s rankings always felt 3rd or 4th behind Rivals and 247s rankings and maybe even ESPN's which still feels like something they just throw together. It'll be interesting to see if they change how the rankings work as On3 has a bit of their own methodology.
